Philippians 1:12-26

CSB 12 Now I want you to know, brothers, that what has happened to me has actually resulted in the advancement of the gospel, NIV 12 Now I want you to know, brothers, that what has happened to me has really served to advance the gospel. CSB 13 so that it has become known throughout the whole imperial guard, and to everyone else, that my imprisonment is for Christ. NIV 13 As a result, it has become clear throughout the whole palace guard and to everyone else that I am in chains for Christ. CSB 14 Most of the brothers in the Lord have gained confidence from my imprisonment and dare even more to speak the message fearlessly. NIV 14 Because of my chains, most of the brothers in the Lord have been encouraged to speak the word of God more courageously and fearlessly. CSB 15 Some, to be sure, preach Christ out of envy and strife, but others out of good will. NIV 15 It is true that some preach Christ out of envy and rivalry, but others out of goodwill. CSB 16 These do so out of love, knowing that I am appointed for the defense of the gospel; NIV 16 The latter do so in love, knowing that I am put here for the defense of the gospel. CSB 17 the others proclaim Christ out of rivalry, not sincerely, seeking to cause [me] trouble in my imprisonment. NIV 17 The former preach Christ out of selfish ambition, not sincerely, supposing that they can stir up trouble for me while I am in chains. CSB 18 What does it matter? Just that in every way, whether out of false motives or true, Christ is proclaimed. And in this I rejoice. Yes, and I will rejoice NIV 18 But what does it matter? The important thing is that in every way, whether from false motives or true, Christ is preached. And because of this I rejoice. Yes, and I will continue to rejoice, CSB 19 because I know this will lead to my deliverance through your prayers and help from the Spirit of Jesus Christ. NIV 19 for I know that through your prayers and the help given by the Spirit of Jesus Christ, what has happened to me will turn out for my deliverance. CSB 20 My eager expectation and hope is that I will not be ashamed about anything, but that now as always, with all boldness, Christ will be highly honored in my body, whether by life or by death. NIV 20 I eagerly expect and hope that I will in no way be ashamed, but will have sufficient courage so that now as always Christ will be exalted in my body, whether by life or by death. CSB 21 For me, living is Christ and dying is gain. NIV 21 For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain. CSB 22 Now if I live on in the flesh, this means fruitful work for me; and I don't know which one I should choose. NIV 22 If I am to go on living in the body, this will mean fruitful labor for me. Yet what shall I choose? I do not know! CSB 23 I am pressured by both. I have the desire to depart and be with Christ-which is far better- NIV 23 I am torn between the two: I desire to depart and be with Christ, which is better by far; CSB 24 but to remain in the flesh is more necessary for you. NIV 24 but it is more necessary for you that I remain in the body. CSB 25 Since I am persuaded of this, I know that I will remain and continue with all of you for your advancement and joy in the faith, NIV 25 Convinced of this, I know that I will remain, and I will continue with all of you for your progress and joy in the faith, CSB 26 so that, because of me, your confidence may grow in Christ Jesus when I come to you again. NIV 26 so that through my being with you again your joy in Christ Jesus will overflow on account of me.
