Philippians 2

ASV 1 If there is therefore any exhortation in Christ, if any consolation of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any tender mercies and compassions, NIV 1 If you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any fellowship with the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, ASV 2 make full my joy, that ye be of the same mind, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind; NIV 2 then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and purpose. ASV 3 [doing] nothing through faction or through vainglory, but in lowliness of mind each counting other better than himself; NIV 3 Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. ASV 4 not looking each of you to his own things, but each of you also to the things of others. NIV 4 Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others. ASV 5 Have this mind in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: NIV 5 Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus: ASV 6 who, existing in the form of God, counted not the being on an equality with God a thing to be grasped, NIV 6 Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, ASV 7 but emptied himself, taking the form of a servant, being made in the likeness of men; NIV 7 but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. ASV 8 and being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, becoming obedient [even] unto death, yea, the death of the cross. NIV 8 And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to death-- even death on a cross! ASV 9 Wherefore also God highly exalted him, and gave unto him the name which is above every name; NIV 9 Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, ASV 10 that in the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of [things] in heaven and [things] on earth and [things] under the earth, NIV 10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, ASV 11 and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. NIV 11 and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. ASV 12 So then, my beloved, even as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling; NIV 12 Therefore, my dear friends, as you have always obeyed--not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence--continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling, ASV 13 for it is God who worketh in you both to will and to work, for his good pleasure. NIV 13 for it is God who works in you to will and to act according to his good purpose. ASV 14 Do all things without murmurings and questionings: NIV 14 Do everything without complaining or arguing, ASV 15 that ye may become blameless and harmless, children of God without blemish in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom ye are seen as lights in the world, NIV 15 so that you may become blameless and pure, children of God without fault in a crooked and depraved generation, in which you shine like stars in the universe ASV 16 holding forth the word of life; that I may have whereof to glory in the day of Christ, that I did not run in vain neither labor in vain. NIV 16 as you hold out the word of life--in order that I may boast on the day of Christ that I did not run or labor for nothing. ASV 17 Yea, and if I am offered upon the sacrifice and service of your faith, I joy, and rejoice with you all: NIV 17 But even if I am being poured out like a drink offering on the sacrifice and service coming from your faith, I am glad and rejoice with all of you. ASV 18 and in the same manner do ye also joy, and rejoice with me. NIV 18 So you too should be glad and rejoice with me. ASV 19 But I hope in the Lord Jesus to send Timothy shortly unto you, that I also may be of good comfort, when I know your state. NIV 19 I hope in the Lord Jesus to send Timothy to you soon, that I also may be cheered when I receive news about you. ASV 20 For I have no man likeminded, who will care truly for your state. NIV 20 I have no one else like him, who takes a genuine interest in your welfare. ASV 21 For they all seek their own, not the things of Jesus Christ. NIV 21 For everyone looks out for his own interests, not those of Jesus Christ. ASV 22 But ye know the proof of him, that, as a child [serveth] a father, [so] he served with me in furtherance of the gospel. NIV 22 But you know that Timothy has proved himself, because as a son with his father he has served with me in the work of the gospel. ASV 23 Him therefore I hope to send forthwith, so soon as I shall see how it will go with me: NIV 23 I hope, therefore, to send him as soon as I see how things go with me. ASV 24 but I trust in the Lord that I myself also shall come shortly. NIV 24 And I am confident in the Lord that I myself will come soon. ASV 25 But I counted it necessary to send to you Epaphroditus, my brother and fellow-worker and fellow-soldier, and your messenger and minister to my need; NIV 25 But I think it is necessary to send back to you Epaphroditus, my brother, fellow worker and fellow soldier, who is also your messenger, whom you sent to take care of my needs. ASV 26 since he longed after you all, and was sore troubled, because ye had heard that he was sick: NIV 26 For he longs for all of you and is distressed because you heard he was ill. ASV 27 for indeed he was sick nigh unto death: but God had mercy on him; and not on him only, but on me also, that I might not have sorrow upon sorrow. NIV 27 Indeed he was ill, and almost died. But God had mercy on him, and not on him only but also on me, to spare me sorrow upon sorrow. ASV 28 I have sent him therefore the more diligently, that, when ye see him again, ye may rejoice, and that I may be the less sorrowful. NIV 28 Therefore I am all the more eager to send him, so that when you see him again you may be glad and I may have less anxiety. ASV 29 Receive him therefore in the Lord with all joy; and hold such in honor: NIV 29 Welcome him in the Lord with great joy, and honor men like him, ASV 30 because for the work of Christ he came nigh unto death, hazarding his life to supply that which was lacking in your service toward me. NIV 30 because he almost died for the work of Christ, risking his life to make up for the help you could not give me.
