Philippians 2

BBE 1 If then there is any comfort in Christ, any help given by love, any uniting of hearts in the Spirit, any loving mercies and pity, NIV 1 If you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any fellowship with the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, BBE 2 Make my joy complete by being of the same mind, having the same love, being in harmony and of one mind; NIV 2 then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and purpose. BBE 3 Doing nothing through envy or through pride, but with low thoughts of self let everyone take others to be better than himself; NIV 3 Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. BBE 4 Not looking everyone to his private good, but keeping in mind the things of others. NIV 4 Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others. BBE 5 Let this mind be in you which was in Christ Jesus, NIV 5 Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus: BBE 6 To whom, though himself in the form of God, it did not seem that to take for oneself was to be like God; NIV 6 Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, BBE 7 But he made himself as nothing, taking the form of a servant, being made like men; NIV 7 but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. BBE 8 And being seen in form as a man, he took the lowest place, and let himself be put to death, even the death of the cross. NIV 8 And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to death-- even death on a cross! BBE 9 For this reason God has put him in the highest place and has given to him the name which is greater than every name; NIV 9 Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, BBE 10 So that at the name of Jesus every knee may be bent, of those in heaven and those on earth and those in the underworld, NIV 10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, BBE 11 And that every tongue may give witness that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. NIV 11 and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. BBE 12 So then, my loved ones, as you have at all times done what I say, not only when I am present, but now much more when I am not with you, give yourselves to working out your salvation with fear in your hearts; NIV 12 Therefore, my dear friends, as you have always obeyed--not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence--continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling, BBE 13 For it is God who is the cause of your desires and of your acts, for his good pleasure. NIV 13 for it is God who works in you to will and to act according to his good purpose. BBE 14 Do all things without protests and arguments; NIV 14 Do everything without complaining or arguing, BBE 15 So that you may be holy and gentle, children of God without sin in a twisted and foolish generation, among whom you are seen as lights in the world, NIV 15 so that you may become blameless and pure, children of God without fault in a crooked and depraved generation, in which you shine like stars in the universe BBE 16 Offering the word of life; so that I may have glory in you in the day of Christ, because my running was not for nothing and my work was not without effect. NIV 16 as you hold out the word of life--in order that I may boast on the day of Christ that I did not run or labor for nothing. BBE 17 And even if I am offered like a drink offering, giving myself for the cause and work of your faith, I am glad and have joy with you all: NIV 17 But even if I am being poured out like a drink offering on the sacrifice and service coming from your faith, I am glad and rejoice with all of you. BBE 18 And in the same way do you be glad and have a part in my joy. NIV 18 So you too should be glad and rejoice with me. BBE 19 But I am hoping in the Lord Jesus to send Timothy to you before long, so that I may be comforted when I have news of you. NIV 19 I hope in the Lord Jesus to send Timothy to you soon, that I also may be cheered when I receive news about you. BBE 20 For I have no man of like mind who will truly have care for you. NIV 20 I have no one else like him, who takes a genuine interest in your welfare. BBE 21 For they all go after what is theirs, not after the things of Christ. NIV 21 For everyone looks out for his own interests, not those of Jesus Christ. BBE 22 But his quality is clear to you; how, as a child is to its father, so he was a help to me in the work of the good news. NIV 22 But you know that Timothy has proved himself, because as a son with his father he has served with me in the work of the gospel. BBE 23 Him then I am hoping to send as quickly as possible, when I am able to see how things will go for me: NIV 23 I hope, therefore, to send him as soon as I see how things go with me. BBE 24 But I have faith in the Lord that I myself will come before long. NIV 24 And I am confident in the Lord that I myself will come soon. BBE 25 But it seemed to me necessary to send to you Epaphroditus, my brother, who has taken part with me in the work and in the fight, and your servant, sent by you for help in my need; NIV 25 But I think it is necessary to send back to you Epaphroditus, my brother, fellow worker and fellow soldier, who is also your messenger, whom you sent to take care of my needs. BBE 26 Because his heart was with you all, and he was greatly troubled because you had news that he was ill: NIV 26 For he longs for all of you and is distressed because you heard he was ill. BBE 27 For in fact he was ill almost to death: but God had mercy on him; and not only on him but on me, so that I might not have grief on grief. NIV 27 Indeed he was ill, and almost died. But God had mercy on him, and not on him only but also on me, to spare me sorrow upon sorrow. BBE 28 I have sent him, then, the more gladly, so that when you see him again, you may be happy and I may have the less sorrow. NIV 28 Therefore I am all the more eager to send him, so that when you see him again you may be glad and I may have less anxiety. BBE 29 So take him to your hearts in the Lord with all joy, and give honour to such as he is: NIV 29 Welcome him in the Lord with great joy, and honor men like him, BBE 30 Because for the work of Christ he was near to death, putting his life in danger to make your care for me complete. NIV 30 because he almost died for the work of Christ, risking his life to make up for the help you could not give me.
