Philippians 2

CEB 1 Therefore, if there is any encouragement in Christ, any comfort in love, any sharing in the Spirit, any sympathy, NIV 1 If you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any fellowship with the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, CEB 2 complete my joy by thinking the same way, having the same love, being united, and agreeing with each other. NIV 2 then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and purpose. CEB 3 Don't do anything for selfish purposes, but with humility think of others as better than yourselves. NIV 3 Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. CEB 4 Instead of each person watching out for their own good, watch out for what is better for others. NIV 4 Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others. CEB 5 Adopt the attitude that was in Christ Jesus: NIV 5 Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus: CEB 6 Though he was in the form of God, he did not consider being equal with God something to exploit. NIV 6 Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, CEB 7 But he emptied himself by taking the form of a slave and by becoming like human beings. When he found himself in the form of a human, NIV 7 but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. CEB 8 he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. NIV 8 And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to death-- even death on a cross! CEB 9 Therefore, God highly honored him and gave him a name above all names, NIV 9 Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, CEB 10 so that at the name of Jesus everyone in heaven, on earth, and under the earth might bow NIV 10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, CEB 11 and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. NIV 11 and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. CEB 12 Therefore, my loved ones, just as you always obey me, not just when I am present but now even more while I am away, carry out your own salvation with fear and trembling. NIV 12 Therefore, my dear friends, as you have always obeyed--not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence--continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling, CEB 13 God is the one who enables you both to want and to actually live out his good purposes. NIV 13 for it is God who works in you to will and to act according to his good purpose. CEB 14 Do everything without grumbling and arguing NIV 14 Do everything without complaining or arguing, CEB 15 so that you may be blameless and pure, innocent children of God surrounded by people who are crooked and corrupt. Among these people you shine like stars in the world NIV 15 so that you may become blameless and pure, children of God without fault in a crooked and depraved generation, in which you shine like stars in the universe CEB 16 because you hold on to the word of life. This will allow me to say on the day of Christ that I haven't run for nothing or worked for nothing. NIV 16 as you hold out the word of life--in order that I may boast on the day of Christ that I did not run or labor for nothing. CEB 17 But even if I am poured out like a drink offering upon the altar of service for your faith, I am glad. I'm glad with all of you. NIV 17 But even if I am being poured out like a drink offering on the sacrifice and service coming from your faith, I am glad and rejoice with all of you. CEB 18 You should be glad about this in the same way. Be glad with me! NIV 18 So you too should be glad and rejoice with me. CEB 19 I hope in the Lord Jesus to send Timothy to see you soon so that I may be encouraged by hearing about you. NIV 19 I hope in the Lord Jesus to send Timothy to you soon, that I also may be cheered when I receive news about you. CEB 20 I have no one like him. He is a person who genuinely cares about your well-being. NIV 20 I have no one else like him, who takes a genuine interest in your welfare. CEB 21 All the others put their own business ahead of Jesus Christ's business. NIV 21 For everyone looks out for his own interests, not those of Jesus Christ. CEB 22 You know his character, how he labors with me for the gospel like a son works with his father. NIV 22 But you know that Timothy has proved himself, because as a son with his father he has served with me in the work of the gospel. CEB 23 So he is the one that I hope to send as soon as I find out how things turn out here for me. NIV 23 I hope, therefore, to send him as soon as I see how things go with me. CEB 24 I trust in the Lord that I also will visit you soon. NIV 24 And I am confident in the Lord that I myself will come soon. CEB 25 I think it is also necessary to send Epaphroditus to you. He is my brother, coworker, and fellow soldier; and he is your representative who serves my needs. NIV 25 But I think it is necessary to send back to you Epaphroditus, my brother, fellow worker and fellow soldier, who is also your messenger, whom you sent to take care of my needs. CEB 26 He misses you all, and he was upset because you heard he was sick. NIV 26 For he longs for all of you and is distressed because you heard he was ill. CEB 27 In fact, he was so sick that he nearly died. But God had mercy on him—and not just on him but also on me, because his death would have caused me great sorrow. NIV 27 Indeed he was ill, and almost died. But God had mercy on him, and not on him only but also on me, to spare me sorrow upon sorrow. CEB 28 Therefore, I am sending him immediately so that when you see him again you can be glad and I won't worry. NIV 28 Therefore I am all the more eager to send him, so that when you see him again you may be glad and I may have less anxiety. CEB 29 So welcome him in the Lord with great joy and show great respect for people like him. NIV 29 Welcome him in the Lord with great joy, and honor men like him, CEB 30 He risked his life and almost died for the work of Christ, and he did this to make up for the help you couldn't give me. NIV 30 because he almost died for the work of Christ, risking his life to make up for the help you could not give me.
