Philippians 2

CSB 1 If then there is any encouragement in Christ, if any consolation of love, if any fellowship with the Spirit, if any affection and mercy, NIV 1 If you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any fellowship with the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, CSB 2 fulfill my joy by thinking the same way, having the same love, sharing the same feelings, focusing on one goal. NIV 2 then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and purpose. CSB 3 Do nothing out of rivalry or conceit, but in humility consider others as more important than yourselves. NIV 3 Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. CSB 4 Everyone should look out not [only] for his own interests, but also for the interests of others. NIV 4 Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others. CSB 5 Make your own attitude that of Christ Jesus, NIV 5 Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus: CSB 6 who, existing in the form of God, did not consider equality with God as something to be used for His own advantage. NIV 6 Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, CSB 7 Instead He emptied Himself by assuming the form of a slave, taking on the likeness of men. And when He had come as a man in His external form, NIV 7 but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. CSB 8 He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death-even to death on a cross. NIV 8 And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to death-- even death on a cross! CSB 9 For this reason God also highly exalted Him and gave Him the name that is above every name, NIV 9 Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, CSB 10 so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow- of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth- NIV 10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, CSB 11 and every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. NIV 11 and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. CSB 12 So then, my dear friends, just as you have always obeyed, not only in my presence, but now even more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. NIV 12 Therefore, my dear friends, as you have always obeyed--not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence--continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling, CSB 13 For it is God who is working in you, [enabling you] both to will and to act for His good purpose. NIV 13 for it is God who works in you to will and to act according to his good purpose. CSB 14 Do everything without grumbling and arguing, NIV 14 Do everything without complaining or arguing, CSB 15 so that you may be blameless and pure, children of God who are faultless in a crooked and perverted generation, among whom you shine like stars in the world. NIV 15 so that you may become blameless and pure, children of God without fault in a crooked and depraved generation, in which you shine like stars in the universe CSB 16 Hold firmly the message of life. Then I can boast in the day of Christ that I didn't run in vain or labor for nothing. NIV 16 as you hold out the word of life--in order that I may boast on the day of Christ that I did not run or labor for nothing. CSB 17 But even if I am poured out as a drink offering on the sacrifice and service of your faith, I am glad and rejoice with all of you. NIV 17 But even if I am being poured out like a drink offering on the sacrifice and service coming from your faith, I am glad and rejoice with all of you. CSB 18 In the same way you also should rejoice and share your joy with me. NIV 18 So you too should be glad and rejoice with me. CSB 19 Now I hope in the Lord Jesus to send Timothy to you soon so that I also may be encouraged when I hear news about you. NIV 19 I hope in the Lord Jesus to send Timothy to you soon, that I also may be cheered when I receive news about you. CSB 20 For I have no one else like-minded who will genuinely care about your interests; NIV 20 I have no one else like him, who takes a genuine interest in your welfare. CSB 21 all seek their own interests, not those of Jesus Christ. NIV 21 For everyone looks out for his own interests, not those of Jesus Christ. CSB 22 But you know his proven character, because he has served with me in the gospel ministry like a son with a father. NIV 22 But you know that Timothy has proved himself, because as a son with his father he has served with me in the work of the gospel. CSB 23 Therefore, I hope to send him as soon as I see how things go with me. NIV 23 I hope, therefore, to send him as soon as I see how things go with me. CSB 24 And I am convinced in the Lord that I myself will also come quickly. NIV 24 And I am confident in the Lord that I myself will come soon. CSB 25 But I considered it necessary to send you Epaphroditus-my brother, co-worker, and fellow soldier, as well as your messenger and minister to my need- NIV 25 But I think it is necessary to send back to you Epaphroditus, my brother, fellow worker and fellow soldier, who is also your messenger, whom you sent to take care of my needs. CSB 26 since he has been longing for all of you and was distressed because you heard that he was sick. NIV 26 For he longs for all of you and is distressed because you heard he was ill. CSB 27 Indeed, he was so sick that he nearly died. However, God had mercy on him, and not only on him but also on me, so that I would not have one grief on top of another. NIV 27 Indeed he was ill, and almost died. But God had mercy on him, and not on him only but also on me, to spare me sorrow upon sorrow. CSB 28 For this reason, I am very eager to send him so that you may rejoice when you see him again and I may be less anxious. NIV 28 Therefore I am all the more eager to send him, so that when you see him again you may be glad and I may have less anxiety. CSB 29 Therefore, welcome him in the Lord with all joy and hold men like him in honor, NIV 29 Welcome him in the Lord with great joy, and honor men like him, CSB 30 because he came close to death for the work of Christ, risking his life to make up what was lacking in your ministry to me. NIV 30 because he almost died for the work of Christ, risking his life to make up for the help you could not give me.
