Philippians 3

RSV 1 Finally, my brethren, rejoice in the Lord. To write the same things to you is not irksome to me, and is safe for you. NIV 1 Finally, my brothers, rejoice in the Lord! It is no trouble for me to write the same things to you again, and it is a safeguard for you. RSV 2 Look out for the dogs, look out for the evil-workers, look out for those who mutilate the flesh. NIV 2 Watch out for those dogs, those men who do evil, those mutilators of the flesh. RSV 3 For we are the true circumcision, who worship God in spirit, and glory in Christ Jesus, and put no confidence in the flesh. NIV 3 For it is we who are the circumcision, we who worship by the Spirit of God, who glory in Christ Jesus, and who put no confidence in the flesh-- RSV 4 Though I myself have reason for confidence in the flesh also. If any other man thinks he has reason for confidence in the flesh, I have more: NIV 4 though I myself have reasons for such confidence. If anyone else thinks he has reasons to put confidence in the flesh, I have more: RSV 5 circumcised on the eighth day, of the people of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, a Hebrew born of Hebrews; as to the law a Pharisee, NIV 5 circumcised on the eighth day, of the people of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, a Hebrew of Hebrews; in regard to the law, a Pharisee; RSV 6 as to zeal a persecutor of the church, as to righteousness under the law blameless. NIV 6 as for zeal, persecuting the church; as for legalistic righteousness, faultless. RSV 7 But whatever gain I had, I counted as loss for the sake of Christ. NIV 7 But whatever was to my profit I now consider loss for the sake of Christ. RSV 8 Indeed I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them as refuse, in order that I may gain Christ NIV 8 What is more, I consider everything a loss compared to the surpassing greatness of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them rubbish, that I may gain Christ RSV 9 and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own, based on law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness from God that depends on faith; NIV 9 and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ--the righteousness that comes from God and is by faith. RSV 10 that I may know him and the power of his resurrection, and may share his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, NIV 10 I want to know Christ and the power of his resurrection and the fellowship of sharing in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, RSV 11 that if possible I may attain the resurrection from the dead. NIV 11 and so, somehow, to attain to the resurrection from the dead. RSV 12 Not that I have already obtained this or am already perfect; but I press on to make it my own, because Christ Jesus has made me his own. NIV 12 Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already been made perfect, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. RSV 13 Brethren, I do not consider that I have made it my own; but one thing I do, forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, NIV 13 Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, RSV 14 I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. NIV 14 I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus. RSV 15 Let those of us who are mature be thus minded; and if in anything you are otherwise minded, God will reveal that also to you. NIV 15 All of us who are mature should take such a view of things. And if on some point you think differently, that too God will make clear to you. RSV 16 Only let us hold true to what we have attained. NIV 16 Only let us live up to what we have already attained. RSV 17 Brethren, join in imitating me, and mark those who so live as you have an example in us. NIV 17 Join with others in following my example, brothers, and take note of those who live according to the pattern we gave you. RSV 18 For many, of whom I have often told you and now tell you even with tears, live as enemies of the cross of Christ. NIV 18 For, as I have often told you before and now say again even with tears, many live as enemies of the cross of Christ. RSV 19 Their end is destruction, their god is the belly, and they glory in their shame, with minds set on earthly things. NIV 19 Their destiny is destruction, their god is their stomach, and their glory is in their shame. Their mind is on earthly things. RSV 20 But our commonwealth is in heaven, and from it we await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, NIV 20 But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ, RSV 21 who will change our lowly body to be like his glorious body, by the power which enables him even to subject all things to himself. NIV 21 who, by the power that enables him to bring everything under his control, will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like his glorious body.
