Proverbs 10

NIRV 1 These are the proverbs of Solomon. A wise son makes his father glad. But a foolish son brings sorrow to his mother. NIV 1 The proverbs of Solomon: A wise son brings joy to his father, but a foolish son grief to his mother. NIRV 2 Riches that are gained by sinning aren't worth anything. But doing what is right saves you from death. NIV 2 Ill-gotten treasures are of no value, but righteousness delivers from death. NIRV 3 The LORD gives those who do right the food they need. But he lets those who do wrong go hungry. NIV 3 The LORD does not let the righteous go hungry but he thwarts the craving of the wicked. NIRV 4 Hands that don't want to work make you poor. But hands that work hard bring wealth to you. NIV 4 Lazy hands make a man poor, but diligent hands bring wealth. NIRV 5 A child who gathers crops in summer is wise. But a child who sleeps at harvest time brings shame. NIV 5 He who gathers crops in summer is a wise son, but he who sleeps during harvest is a disgraceful son. NIRV 6 Blessings are like crowns on the heads of those who do right. But the trouble caused by what sinners say destroys them. NIV 6 Blessings crown the head of the righteous, but violence overwhelms the mouth of the wicked. NIRV 7 To remember those who do right is a blessing. But the names of those who do wrong will rot. NIV 7 The memory of the righteous will be a blessing, but the name of the wicked will rot. NIRV 8 A wise heart accepts commands. But foolish chattering destroys you. NIV 8 The wise in heart accept commands, but a chattering fool comes to ruin. NIRV 9 Anyone who lives without blame walks safely. But anyone who takes a crooked path will get caught. NIV 9 The man of integrity walks securely, but he who takes crooked paths will be found out. NIRV 10 An evil wink gets you into trouble. And foolish chattering destroys you. NIV 10 He who winks maliciously causes grief, and a chattering fool comes to ruin. NIRV 11 The mouths of those who do right are a fountain of life. But love erases all sins by forgiving them. NIV 12 Hatred stirs up dissension, but love covers over all wrongs. NIRV 13 Wisdom is found on the lips of those who understand what is right. But those who have no sense are punished. NIV 13 Wisdom is found on the lips of the discerning, but a rod is for the back of him who lacks judgment. NIRV 14 Wise people store up knowledge. But the mouths of foolish people destroy them. NIV 14 Wise men store up knowledge, but the mouth of a fool invites ruin. NIRV 15 The wealth of rich people is like a city that makes them feel safe. But having nothing destroys those who are poor. NIV 15 The wealth of the rich is their fortified city, but poverty is the ruin of the poor. NIRV 16 People who do what is right earn life. But what sinners earn causes them to be punished. NIV 16 The wages of the righteous bring them life, but the income of the wicked brings them punishment. NIRV 17 Anyone who pays attention to his training is on his way to life. But anyone who refuses to be corrected leads others down the wrong path. NIV 17 He who heeds discipline shows the way to life, but whoever ignores correction leads others astray. NIRV 18 Anyone who hides hatred has lying lips. And anyone who spreads lies is foolish. NIV 18 He who conceals his hatred has lying lips, and whoever spreads slander is a fool. NIRV 19 Those who talk a lot are likely to sin. But those who control their tongues are wise. NIV 19 When words are many, sin is not absent, but he who holds his tongue is wise. NIRV 20 The tongues of those who do right are like fine silver. But the hearts of those who do wrong aren't worth very much. NIV 20 The tongue of the righteous is choice silver, but the heart of the wicked is of little value. NIRV 21 The words of those who do right benefit many people. But those who are foolish die because they have no sense. NIV 21 The lips of the righteous nourish many, but fools die for lack of judgment. NIRV 22 The blessing of the LORD brings wealth. Trouble doesn't come with it. NIV 22 The blessing of the LORD brings wealth, and he adds no trouble to it. NIRV 23 A foolish person finds pleasure in doing evil things. But a man who has understanding takes delight in wisdom. NIV 23 A fool finds pleasure in evil conduct, but a man of understanding delights in wisdom. NIRV 24 What sinners are afraid of will catch up with them. But those who do right will get what they want. NIV 24 What the wicked dreads will overtake him; what the righteous desire will be granted. NIRV 25 When the storm is over, sinners are gone. But those who do right stand firm forever. NIV 25 When the storm has swept by, the wicked are gone, but the righteous stand firm forever. NIRV 26 Anyone who doesn't want to work hurts those who send him. He is like vinegar on the teeth or smoke in the eyes. NIV 26 As vinegar to the teeth and smoke to the eyes, so is a sluggard to those who send him. NIRV 27 Having respect for the LORD leads to a longer life. But the years of evil people are cut short. NIV 27 The fear of the LORD adds length to life, but the years of the wicked are cut short. NIRV 28 Those who do right can expect joy. But the hopes of sinners are bound to fail. NIV 28 The prospect of the righteous is joy, but the hopes of the wicked come to nothing. NIRV 29 The way of the LORD leads to a safe place for those who do right. But it destroys those who do evil. NIV 29 The way of the LORD is a refuge for the righteous, but it is the ruin of those who do evil. NIRV 30 Those who do right will never be removed from the land. But those who do wrong will not remain in it. NIV 30 The righteous will never be uprooted, but the wicked will not remain in the land. NIRV 31 The mouths of those who do right produce wisdom. But tongues that speak twisted words will be cut out. NIV 31 The mouth of the righteous brings forth wisdom, but a perverse tongue will be cut out. NIRV 32 Those who do right know the proper thing to say. But those who do wrong speak only twisted words. NIV 32 The lips of the righteous know what is fitting, but the mouth of the wicked only what is perverse.
