Proverbs 12

LEB 1 He who loves discipline loves knowledge, but he who hates rebuke [is] stupid. NIV 1 Whoever loves discipline loves knowledge, but he who hates correction is stupid. LEB 2 The good obtains favor from Yahweh, but anyone who schemes, he condemns. NIV 2 A good man obtains favor from the LORD, but the LORD condemns a crafty man. LEB 3 A person will not be established by wickedness, but the root of the righteous will not be moved. NIV 3 A man cannot be established through wickedness, but the righteous cannot be uprooted. LEB 4 A woman of strength [is] the crown of her master, but like rot in his bones is she who brings shame. NIV 4 A wife of noble character is her husband's crown, but a disgraceful wife is like decay in his bones. LEB 5 The thoughts of the righteous are just; the advice of the wicked is treacherous. NIV 5 The plans of the righteous are just, but the advice of the wicked is deceitful. LEB 6 The words of the wicked [are] an ambush of blood, but the mouth of the upright delivers them. NIV 6 The words of the wicked lie in wait for blood, but the speech of the upright rescues them. LEB 7 The wicked are overthrown and {are no more}, but the house of the righteous shall stand. NIV 7 Wicked men are overthrown and are no more, but the house of the righteous stands firm. LEB 8 For his mouth of good sense, a man will be recommended, but he who is of perverse {mind} will be despised. NIV 8 A man is praised according to his wisdom, but men with warped minds are despised. LEB 9 It is better to be lowly and a servant {to someone} than self-glorifying and lacking food. NIV 9 Better to be a nobody and yet have a servant than pretend to be somebody and have no food. LEB 10 The righteous knows the life of his animal, but the compassion of the wicked is cruel. NIV 10 A righteous man cares for the needs of his animal, but the kindest acts of the wicked are cruel. LEB 11 He who works his land will have plenty of food, but he who follows worthless things lacks {sense}. NIV 11 He who works his land will have abundant food, but he who chases fantasies lacks judgment. LEB 12 The wicked covets the proceeds of evil, but the root of the righteous {bears fruit}. NIV 12 The wicked desire the plunder of evil men, but the root of the righteous flourishes. LEB 13 By the transgression of lips, evil is ensnared, but the righteous escapes from trouble. NIV 13 An evil man is trapped by his sinful talk, but a righteous man escapes trouble. LEB 14 From the fruit of the mouth of a man, he is filled with good, and the reward of {a man's labor} will return to him. NIV 14 From the fruit of his lips a man is filled with good things as surely as the work of his hands rewards him. LEB 15 The way of a fool is upright in his [own] eyes, but he who listens to advice [is] wise. NIV 15 The way of a fool seems right to him, but a wise man listens to advice. LEB 16 As for a fool, {on that very day} he makes his anger known, but he who ignores an insult [is] prudent. NIV 16 A fool shows his annoyance at once, but a prudent man overlooks an insult. LEB 17 He who will speak truth will reveal righteousness, but the witness of falsehood, deceit. NIV 17 A truthful witness gives honest testimony, but a false witness tells lies. LEB 18 There is one who speaks rashly, like the thrust of a sword, but the tongue of the wise brings healing. NIV 18 Reckless words pierce like a sword, but the tongue of the wise brings healing. LEB 19 A lip of truth endures forever, but a tongue of deception lasts only a moment. NIV 19 Truthful lips endure forever, but a lying tongue lasts only a moment. LEB 20 Deceit [is] in the heart of {those who plan} evil, but to {those who plan} peace, [there is] joy. NIV 20 There is deceit in the hearts of those who plot evil, but joy for those who promote peace. LEB 21 {No evil will happen} to the righteous, but the wicked are filled [with] trouble. NIV 21 No harm befalls the righteous, but the wicked have their fill of trouble. LEB 22 An abomination of Yahweh are lips of deceit, but they who act faithfully [are] his delight. NIV 22 The LORD detests lying lips, but he delights in men who are truthful. LEB 23 A clever person conceals knowledge, but the heart of a fool announces folly. NIV 23 A prudent man keeps his knowledge to himself, but the heart of fools blurts out folly. LEB 24 The hand of the diligent ones will rule, but the lazy will belong to forced labor. NIV 24 Diligent hands will rule, but laziness ends in slave labor. LEB 25 Anxiety in the heart of a man will weigh him down, but a good word will cheer him. NIV 25 An anxious heart weighs a man down, but a kind word cheers him up. LEB 26 A righteous person will seek out his neighbor, but the way of the wicked will lead them astray. NIV 26 A righteous man is cautious in friendship, but the way of the wicked leads them astray. LEB 27 The lazy will not roast his game, but diligence is the precious wealth of a man. NIV 27 The lazy man does not roast his game, but the diligent man prizes his possessions. LEB 28 On the road of righteousness is life, and [on] the way of the path, [may there be] no death. NIV 28 In the way of righteousness there is life; along that path is immortality.
