Proverbs 18:16-24

GNTA 16 Do you want to meet an important person? Take a gift and it will be easy. NIV 16 A gift opens the way for the giver and ushers him into the presence of the great. GNTA 17 The first person to speak in court always seems right until his opponent begins to question him. NIV 17 The first to present his case seems right, till another comes forward and questions him. GNTA 18 If two powerful people are opposing each other in court, casting lots can settle the issue. NIV 18 Casting the lot settles disputes and keeps strong opponents apart. GNTA 19 Help your relatives and they will protect you like a strong city wall, but if you quarrel with them, they will close their doors to you. NIV 19 An offended brother is more unyielding than a fortified city, and disputes are like the barred gates of a citadel. GNTA 20 You will have to live with the consequences of everything you say. NIV 20 From the fruit of his mouth a man's stomach is filled; with the harvest from his lips he is satisfied. GNTA 21 What you say can preserve life or destroy it; so you must accept the consequences of your words. NIV 21 The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit. GNTA 22 Find a wife and you find a good thing; it shows that the Lord is good to you. NIV 22 He who finds a wife finds what is good and receives favor from the LORD. GNTA 23 When the poor speak, they have to be polite, but when the rich answer, they are rude. NIV 23 A poor man pleads for mercy, but a rich man answers harshly. GNTA 24 Some friendships do not last, but some friends are more loyal than brothers. NIV 24 A man of many companions may come to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.
