KJV 1 The proverbs of Solomon the son of David, king of Israel; NIV 1 The proverbs of Solomon son of David, king of Israel: KJV 2 To know wisdom and instruction; to perceive the words of understanding; NIV 2 for attaining wisdom and discipline; for understanding words of insight; KJV 3 To receive the instruction of wisdom , justice, and judgment, and equity; NIV 3 for acquiring a disciplined and prudent life, doing what is right and just and fair; KJV 4 To give subtilty to the simple, to the young man knowledge and discretion. NIV 4 for giving prudence to the simple, knowledge and discretion to the young-- KJV 5 A wise man will hear , and will increase learning; and a man of understanding shall attain unto wise counsels: NIV 5 let the wise listen and add to their learning, and let the discerning get guidance-- KJV 6 To understand a proverb, and the interpretation; the words of the wise, and their dark sayings. NIV 6 for understanding proverbs and parables, the sayings and riddles of the wise. KJV 7 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction. NIV 7 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and discipline. KJV 8 My son, hear the instruction of thy father, and forsake not the law of thy mother: NIV 8 Listen, my son, to your father's instruction and do not forsake your mother's teaching.
