Proverbs 2

DBY 1 My son, if thou receivest my words, and layest up my commandments with thee, NIV 1 My son, if you accept my words and store up my commands within you, DBY 2 so that thou incline thine ear unto wisdom [and] thou apply thy heart to understanding; NIV 2 turning your ear to wisdom and applying your heart to understanding, DBY 3 yea, if thou criest after discernment [and] liftest up thy voice to understanding; NIV 3 and if you call out for insight and cry aloud for understanding, DBY 4 if thou seekest her as silver and searchest for her as for hidden treasures: NIV 4 and if you look for it as for silver and search for it as for hidden treasure, DBY 5 then shalt thou understand the fear of Jehovah, and find the knowledge of God. NIV 5 then you will understand the fear of the LORD and find the knowledge of God. DBY 6 For Jehovah giveth wisdom; out of his mouth [come] knowledge and understanding. NIV 6 For the LORD gives wisdom, and from his mouth come knowledge and understanding. DBY 7 He layeth up sound wisdom for the upright; [he] is a shield to them that walk in integrity; NIV 7 He holds victory in store for the upright, he is a shield to those whose walk is blameless, DBY 8 guarding the paths of just judgment and keeping the way of his godly ones. NIV 8 for he guards the course of the just and protects the way of his faithful ones. DBY 9 Then shalt thou understand righteousness and judgment and equity: every good path. NIV 9 Then you will understand what is right and just and fair--every good path. DBY 10 When wisdom entereth into thy heart and knowledge is pleasant unto thy soul, NIV 10 For wisdom will enter your heart, and knowledge will be pleasant to your soul. DBY 11 discretion shall keep thee, understanding shall preserve thee: NIV 11 Discretion will protect you, and understanding will guard you. DBY 12 To deliver thee from the way of evil, from the man that speaketh froward things; NIV 12 Wisdom will save you from the ways of wicked men, from men whose words are perverse, DBY 13 [from those] who leave the paths of uprightness, to walk in the ways of darkness; NIV 13 who leave the straight paths to walk in dark ways, DBY 14 who rejoice to do evil, [and] delight in the frowardness of evil; NIV 14 who delight in doing wrong and rejoice in the perverseness of evil, DBY 15 whose paths are crooked, and who are perverted in their course: NIV 15 whose paths are crooked and who are devious in their ways. DBY 16 To deliver thee from the strange woman, from the stranger who flattereth with her words; NIV 16 It will save you also from the adulteress, from the wayward wife with her seductive words, DBY 17 who forsaketh the guide of her youth, and forgetteth the covenant of her God; NIV 17 who has left the partner of her youth and ignored the covenant she made before God. DBY 18 -- for her house inclineth unto death, and her paths unto the dead; NIV 18 For her house leads down to death and her paths to the spirits of the dead. DBY 19 none that go unto her return again, neither do they attain to the paths of life: NIV 19 None who go to her return or attain the paths of life. DBY 20 -- that thou mayest walk in the way of the good, and keep the paths of the righteous. NIV 20 Thus you will walk in the ways of good men and keep to the paths of the righteous. DBY 21 For the upright shall dwell in the land, and the perfect shall remain in it; NIV 21 For the upright will live in the land, and the blameless will remain in it; DBY 22 but the wicked shall be cut off from the land, and the unfaithful shall be plucked up out of it. NIV 22 but the wicked will be cut off from the land, and the unfaithful will be torn from it.
