Proverbs 31:1-9

CEBA 1 The words of King Lemuel of Massa, which his mother taught him: NIV 1 The sayings of King Lemuel--an oracle his mother taught him: CEBA 2 No, my son! No, son of my womb! No, son of my solemn promises! NIV 2 "O my son, O son of my womb, O son of my vows, CEBA 3 Don't give your strength to women, your ways to those who wipe out kings. NIV 3 do not spend your strength on women, your vigor on those who ruin kings. CEBA 4 It isn't for kings, Lemuel, it isn't for kings to drink wine, for rulers to crave strong drink. NIV 4 "It is not for kings, O Lemuel-- not for kings to drink wine, not for rulers to crave beer, CEBA 5 Otherwise, they will drink and forget the law, and violate the rights of the needy. NIV 5 lest they drink and forget what the law decrees, and deprive all the oppressed of their rights. CEBA 6 Give strong drink to those who are perishing and wine to those whose hearts are bitter. NIV 6 Give beer to those who are perishing, wine to those who are in anguish; CEBA 7 Let them drink and forget their poverty and no longer remember their toil. NIV 7 let them drink and forget their poverty and remember their misery no more. CEBA 8 Speak out on behalf of the voiceless, and for the rights of all who are vulnerable. NIV 8 "Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute. CEBA 9 Speak out in order to judge with righteousness and to defend the needy and the poor. NIV 9 Speak up and judge fairly; defend the rights of the poor and needy."
