Proverbs 7

RHE 1 My son, keep my words, and lay up my precepts with thee. Son, NIV 1 My son, keep my words and store up my commands within you. RHE 2 Keep my commandments, and thou shalt live: and my law as the apple of thy eye: NIV 2 Keep my commands and you will live; guard my teachings as the apple of your eye. RHE 3 Bind it upon thy fingers, write it upon the tables of thy heart. NIV 3 Bind them on your fingers; write them on the tablet of your heart. RHE 4 Say to wisdom: Thou art my sister: and call prudence thy friend, NIV 4 Say to wisdom, "You are my sister," and call understanding your kinsman; RHE 5 That she may keep thee from the woman that is not thine, and from the stranger who sweeteneth her words. NIV 5 they will keep you from the adulteress, from the wayward wife with her seductive words. RHE 6 For I looked out of the window of my house through the lattice, NIV 6 At the window of my house I looked out through the lattice. RHE 7 And I see little ones, I behold a foolish young man, NIV 7 I saw among the simple, I noticed among the young men, a youth who lacked judgment. RHE 8 Who passeth through the street by the corner, and goeth nigh the way of her house, NIV 8 He was going down the street near her corner, walking along in the direction of her house RHE 9 In the dark when it grows late, in the darkness and obscurity of the night. NIV 9 at twilight, as the day was fading, as the dark of night set in. RHE 10 And behold a woman meeteth him in harlot’s attire, prepared to deceive souls: talkative and wandering, NIV 10 Then out came a woman to meet him, dressed like a prostitute and with crafty intent. RHE 11 Not bearing to be quiet, not able to abide still at home, NIV 11 (She is loud and defiant, her feet never stay at home; RHE 12 Now abroad, now in the streets, now lying in wait near the corners. NIV 12 now in the street, now in the squares, at every corner she lurks.) RHE 13 And catching the young man, she kisseth him, and with an impudent face, flattereth, saying: NIV 13 She took hold of him and kissed him and with a brazen face she said: RHE 14 I vowed victims for prosperity, this day I have paid my vows. NIV 14 "I have fellowship offerings at home; today I fulfilled my vows. RHE 15 Therefore I am come out to meet thee, desirous to see thee, and I have found thee. NIV 15 So I came out to meet you; I looked for you and have found you! RHE 16 I have woven my bed with cords, I have covered it with painted tapestry, brought from Egypt. NIV 16 I have covered my bed with colored linens from Egypt. RHE 17 I have perfumed my bed with myrrh, aloes, and cinnamon. NIV 17 I have perfumed my bed with myrrh, aloes and cinnamon. RHE 18 Come, let us be inebriated with the breasts, and let us enjoy the desired embraces, till the day appear. NIV 18 Come, let's drink deep of love till morning; let's enjoy ourselves with love! RHE 19 For my husband is not at home, he is gone a very long journey. NIV 19 My husband is not at home; he has gone on a long journey. RHE 20 He took with him a bag of money: he will return home the day of the full moon. NIV 20 He took his purse filled with money and will not be home till full moon." RHE 21 She entangled him with many words, and drew him away with the flattery of her lips. NIV 21 With persuasive words she led him astray; she seduced him with her smooth talk. RHE 22 Immediately he followeth her as an ox led to be a victim, and as a lamb playing the wanton, and not knowing that he is drawn like a fool to bonds, NIV 22 All at once he followed her like an ox going to the slaughter, like a deer stepping into a noose RHE 23 Till the arrow pierce his liver: as if a bird should make haste to the snare, and knoweth not that his life is in danger. NIV 23 till an arrow pierces his liver, like a bird darting into a snare, little knowing it will cost him his life. RHE 24 Now, therefore, my son, hear me, and attend to the words of my mouth. NIV 24 Now then, my sons, listen to me; pay attention to what I say. RHE 25 Let not thy mind be drawn away in her ways: neither be thou deceived with her paths. NIV 25 Do not let your heart turn to her ways or stray into her paths. RHE 26 For she hath cast down many wounded, and the strongest have been slain by her. NIV 26 Many are the victims she has brought down; her slain are a mighty throng. RHE 27 Her house is the way to hell, reaching even to the inner chambers of death. NIV 27 Her house is a highway to the grave, leading down to the chambers of death.
