WBT 1 My son, keep my words, and lay up my commandments with thee. NIV 1 My son, keep my words and store up my commands within you. WBT 4 Say to wisdom, Thou [art] my sister; and call understanding [thy] kinswoman: NIV 4 Say to wisdom, "You are my sister," and call understanding your kinsman; WBT 5 That they may keep thee from the strange woman, from the stranger [which] flattereth with her words. NIV 5 they will keep you from the adulteress, from the wayward wife with her seductive words. WBT 6 For at the window of my house I looked through my casement, NIV 6 At the window of my house I looked out through the lattice. WBT 7 And beheld among the simple ones, I discerned among the youths, a young man void of understanding, NIV 7 I saw among the simple, I noticed among the young men, a youth who lacked judgment. WBT 8 Passing through the street near her corner; and he went the way to her house. NIV 8 He was going down the street near her corner, walking along in the direction of her house WBT 9 In the twilight, in the evening, in the black and dark night: NIV 9 at twilight, as the day was fading, as the dark of night set in. WBT 10 And behold, there met him a woman [with] the attire of a harlot, and subtil of heart. NIV 10 Then out came a woman to meet him, dressed like a prostitute and with crafty intent. WBT 11 (She [is] loud and stubborn; her feet abide not in her house: NIV 11 (She is loud and defiant, her feet never stay at home; WBT 12 Now [is she] without, now in the streets, and lieth in wait at every corner.) NIV 12 now in the street, now in the squares, at every corner she lurks.) WBT 13 So she caught him, and kissed him, [and] with an impudent face said to him, NIV 13 She took hold of him and kissed him and with a brazen face she said: WBT 14 [I have] peace-offerings with me; this day have I paid my vows. NIV 14 "I have fellowship offerings at home; today I fulfilled my vows. WBT 15 Therefore I came forth to meet thee, diligently to seek thy face, and I have found thee. NIV 15 So I came out to meet you; I looked for you and have found you! WBT 16 I have decked my bed with coverings of tapestry, with carved [works], with fine linen of Egypt. NIV 16 I have covered my bed with colored linens from Egypt. WBT 17 I have perfumed my bed with myrrh, aloes, and cinnamon. NIV 17 I have perfumed my bed with myrrh, aloes and cinnamon. WBT 18 Come, let us take our fill of love until the morning: let us solace ourselves with loves. NIV 18 Come, let's drink deep of love till morning; let's enjoy ourselves with love! WBT 19 For the good-man [is] not at home, he is gone a long journey: NIV 19 My husband is not at home; he has gone on a long journey. WBT 20 He hath taken a bag of money with him, [and] will come home at the day appointed. NIV 20 He took his purse filled with money and will not be home till full moon." WBT 21 With her much fair speech she caused him to yield, with the flattering of her lips she impelled him. NIV 21 With persuasive words she led him astray; she seduced him with her smooth talk. WBT 22 He goeth after her quickly, as an ox goeth to the slaughter, or as a fool to the correction of the stocks; NIV 22 All at once he followed her like an ox going to the slaughter, like a deer stepping into a noose WBT 23 Till a dart striketh through his liver; as a bird hasteth to the snare, and knoweth not that it [is] for his life. NIV 23 till an arrow pierces his liver, like a bird darting into a snare, little knowing it will cost him his life. WBT 24 Now therefore hearken to me, O ye children, and attend to the words of my mouth. NIV 24 Now then, my sons, listen to me; pay attention to what I say. WBT 25 Let not thy heart decline to her ways, go not astray in her paths. NIV 25 Do not let your heart turn to her ways or stray into her paths. WBT 26 For she hath cast down many wounded: yes, many strong [men] have been slain by her. NIV 26 Many are the victims she has brought down; her slain are a mighty throng. WBT 27 Her house [is] the way to hell, going down to the chambers of death. NIV 27 Her house is a highway to the grave, leading down to the chambers of death.
