LEB 1 Does not wisdom call, and understanding raise its voice? NIV 1 Does not wisdom call out? Does not understanding raise her voice? LEB 2 {Atop the heights} beside the road, at the crossroads she stands. NIV 2 On the heights along the way, where the paths meet, she takes her stand; LEB 3 Beside gates, before towns, [at the] entrance of doors, she cries out: NIV 3 beside the gates leading into the city, at the entrances, she cries aloud: LEB 4 "To you, O {people}, I call, and my cry is to the children of humankind. NIV 4 "To you, O men, I call out; I raise my voice to all mankind. LEB 5 Learn prudence, O simple ones; fools, learn {intelligence}. NIV 5 You who are simple, gain prudence; you who are foolish, gain understanding. LEB 6 Listen! For noble things I will speak, and upright things from the opening of my lips. NIV 6 Listen, for I have worthy things to say; I open my lips to speak what is right. LEB 7 My mouth will utter truth, and wickedness [is] an abomination to my lips. NIV 7 My mouth speaks what is true, for my lips detest wickedness. LEB 8 All sayings of my mouth [are] in righteousness; none of them are twisted and crooked. NIV 8 All the words of my mouth are just; none of them is crooked or perverse. LEB 9 All of them are straight to him who understands, and upright to those who find knowledge. NIV 9 To the discerning all of them are right; they are faultless to those who have knowledge. LEB 10 Take my teaching and not silver; may you choose knowledge rather than choice gold. NIV 10 Choose my instruction instead of silver, knowledge rather than choice gold, LEB 11 For wisdom is better than jewels, and all desires shall not compare with her. NIV 11 for wisdom is more precious than rubies, and nothing you desire can compare with her. LEB 12 I, wisdom, live with prudence, and I find knowledge and discretion. NIV 12 "I, wisdom, dwell together with prudence; I possess knowledge and discretion. LEB 13 The fear of Yahweh [is] hatred of evil, pride, and arrogance and an evil way. And I hate a mouth of perversity. NIV 13 To fear the LORD is to hate evil; I hate pride and arrogance, evil behavior and perverse speech. LEB 14 {Advice and sound judgment} are mine; I am understanding, {strength is mine}. NIV 14 Counsel and sound judgment are mine; I have understanding and power. LEB 15 By me kings reign, and rulers decree righteousness. NIV 15 By me kings reign and rulers make laws that are just; LEB 16 By me rulers rule, and nobles--all judges of righteousness. NIV 16 by me princes govern, and all nobles who rule on earth. LEB 17 I love {those who love me}, and those who seek me diligently shall find me. NIV 17 I love those who love me, and those who seek me find me. LEB 18 Fortune and glory [are] with me, enduring wealth and righteousness. NIV 18 With me are riches and honor, enduring wealth and prosperity. LEB 19 My fruit is better than gold, even refined gold, and my yield than choice silver. NIV 19 My fruit is better than fine gold; what I yield surpasses choice silver. LEB 20 In the way of righteousness I walk, in the midst of paths of justice, NIV 20 I walk in the way of righteousness, along the paths of justice, LEB 21 [in order] to endow those who love me [with] wealth, and I will fill their treasuries. NIV 21 bestowing wealth on those who love me and making their treasuries full. LEB 22 "Yahweh possessed me, [the] first of his ways, before his acts {of old}. NIV 22 "The LORD brought me forth as the first of his works, before his deeds of old; LEB 23 From eternity, I was set up from [the] first, from the beginning of the earth. NIV 23 I was appointed from eternity, from the beginning, before the world began. LEB 24 When there were no depths, I was brought forth, when there were no springs of {abounding} water. NIV 24 When there were no oceans, I was given birth, when there were no springs abounding with water; LEB 25 Before mountains had been shaped, before hills, I was brought forth. NIV 25 before the mountains were settled in place, before the hills, I was given birth, LEB 26 When he had not yet made earth and fields, or the first dust of the world, NIV 26 before he made the earth or its fields or any of the dust of the world. LEB 27 {when he established} the heavens, there I [was], {when he drew} a circle upon the face of the deep, NIV 27 I was there when he set the heavens in place, when he marked out the horizon on the face of the deep, LEB 28 {when he made} skies from above, when he founded fountains of the deep, NIV 28 when he established the clouds above and fixed securely the fountains of the deep, LEB 29 {when he assigned} his limits to the sea, that waters shall not transgress his {command}, {when he marked} the foundations of the earth, NIV 29 when he gave the sea its boundary so the waters would not overstep his command, and when he marked out the foundations of the earth. LEB 30 I was {beside} him, a master workman, and I was delighting day by day, rejoicing before him {always}, NIV 30 Then I was the craftsman at his side. I was filled with delight day after day, rejoicing always in his presence, LEB 31 rejoicing in the world of his earth, and my delight [was] with the children of humankind. NIV 31 rejoicing in his whole world and delighting in mankind. LEB 32 "And now, children, listen to me; happy [are] those who will keep my ways. NIV 32 "Now then, my sons, listen to me; blessed are those who keep my ways. LEB 33 Hear teaching and be wise; do not neglect [it]. NIV 33 Listen to my instruction and be wise; do not ignore it. LEB 34 Happy [is the] person who listens to me, [in order] to keep watch at my doors day by day, [in order] to guard the frames of my entrances. NIV 34 Blessed is the man who listens to me, watching daily at my doors, waiting at my doorway. LEB 35 For he who finds me [is] he who finds life, and he obtains favor from Yahweh. NIV 35 For whoever finds me finds life and receives favor from the LORD. LEB 36 But he who misses me injures himself. All those who hate me love death." NIV 36 But whoever fails to find me harms himself; all who hate me love death."
