Proverbs 8

MSG 1 Do you hear Lady Wisdom calling? Can you hear Madame Insight raising her voice? NIV 1 Does not wisdom call out? Does not understanding raise her voice? MSG 2 She's taken her stand at First and Main, at the busiest intersection. NIV 2 On the heights along the way, where the paths meet, she takes her stand; MSG 3 Right in the city square where the traffic is thickest, she shouts, NIV 3 beside the gates leading into the city, at the entrances, she cries aloud: MSG 4 "You - I'm talking to all of you, everyone out here on the streets! NIV 4 "To you, O men, I call out; I raise my voice to all mankind. MSG 5 Listen, you idiots - learn good sense! You blockheads - shape up! NIV 5 You who are simple, gain prudence; you who are foolish, gain understanding. MSG 6 Don't miss a word of this - I'm telling you how to live well, I'm telling you how to live at your best. NIV 6 Listen, for I have worthy things to say; I open my lips to speak what is right. MSG 7 My mouth chews and savors and relishes truth - I can't stand the taste of evil! NIV 7 My mouth speaks what is true, for my lips detest wickedness. MSG 8 You'll only hear true and right words from my mouth; not one syllable will be twisted or skewed. NIV 8 All the words of my mouth are just; none of them is crooked or perverse. MSG 9 You'll recognize this as true - you with open minds; truth-ready minds will see it at once. NIV 9 To the discerning all of them are right; they are faultless to those who have knowledge. MSG 10 Prefer my life-disciplines over chasing after money, and God-knowledge over a lucrative career. NIV 10 Choose my instruction instead of silver, knowledge rather than choice gold, MSG 11 For Wisdom is better than all the trappings of wealth; nothing you could wish for holds a candle to her. NIV 11 for wisdom is more precious than rubies, and nothing you desire can compare with her. MSG 12 "I am Lady Wisdom, and I live next to Sanity; Knowledge and Discretion live just down the street. NIV 12 "I, wisdom, dwell together with prudence; I possess knowledge and discretion. MSG 13 The Fear-of-God means hating Evil, whose ways I hate with a passion - pride and arrogance and crooked talk. NIV 13 To fear the LORD is to hate evil; I hate pride and arrogance, evil behavior and perverse speech. MSG 14 Good counsel and common sense are my characteristics; I am both Insight and the Virtue to live it out. NIV 14 Counsel and sound judgment are mine; I have understanding and power. MSG 15 With my help, leaders rule, and lawmakers legislate fairly; NIV 15 By me kings reign and rulers make laws that are just; MSG 16 With my help, governors govern, along with all in legitimate authority. NIV 16 by me princes govern, and all nobles who rule on earth. MSG 17 I love those who love me; those who look for me find me. NIV 17 I love those who love me, and those who seek me find me. MSG 18 Wealth and Glory accompany me - also substantial Honor and a Good Name. NIV 18 With me are riches and honor, enduring wealth and prosperity. MSG 19 My benefits are worth more than a big salary, even a very big salary; the returns on me exceed any imaginable bonus. NIV 19 My fruit is better than fine gold; what I yield surpasses choice silver. MSG 20 You can find me on Righteous Road - that's where I walk - at the intersection of Justice Avenue, NIV 20 I walk in the way of righteousness, along the paths of justice, MSG 21 Handing out life to those who love me, filling their arms with life - armloads of life! NIV 21 bestowing wealth on those who love me and making their treasuries full. MSG 22 "God sovereignly made me - the first, the basic - before he did anything else. NIV 22 "The LORD brought me forth as the first of his works, before his deeds of old; MSG 23 I was brought into being a long time ago, well before Earth got its start. NIV 23 I was appointed from eternity, from the beginning, before the world began. MSG 24 I arrived on the scene before Ocean, yes, even before Springs and Rivers and Lakes. NIV 24 When there were no oceans, I was given birth, when there were no springs abounding with water; MSG 25 Before Mountains were sculpted and Hills took shape, I was already there, newborn; NIV 25 before the mountains were settled in place, before the hills, I was given birth, MSG 26 Long before God stretched out Earth's Horizons, and tended to the minute details of Soil and Weather, NIV 26 before he made the earth or its fields or any of the dust of the world. MSG 27 And set Sky firmly in place, I was there. When he mapped and gave borders to wild Ocean, NIV 27 I was there when he set the heavens in place, when he marked out the horizon on the face of the deep, MSG 28 built the vast vault of Heaven, and installed the fountains that fed Ocean, NIV 28 when he established the clouds above and fixed securely the fountains of the deep, MSG 29 When he drew a boundary for Sea, posted a sign that said, no trespassing, And then staked out Earth's foundations, NIV 29 when he gave the sea its boundary so the waters would not overstep his command, and when he marked out the foundations of the earth. MSG 30 I was right there with him, making sure everything fit. Day after day I was there, with my joyful applause, always enjoying his company, NIV 30 Then I was the craftsman at his side. I was filled with delight day after day, rejoicing always in his presence, MSG 31 Delighted with the world of things and creatures, happily celebrating the human family. NIV 31 rejoicing in his whole world and delighting in mankind. MSG 32 "So, my dear friends, listen carefully; those who embrace these my ways are most blessed. NIV 32 "Now then, my sons, listen to me; blessed are those who keep my ways. MSG 33 Mark a life of discipline and live wisely; don't squander your precious life. NIV 33 Listen to my instruction and be wise; do not ignore it. MSG 34 Blessed the man, blessed the woman, who listens to me, awake and ready for me each morning, alert and responsive as I start my day's work. NIV 34 Blessed is the man who listens to me, watching daily at my doors, waiting at my doorway. MSG 35 When you find me, you find life, real life, to say nothing of God's good pleasure. NIV 35 For whoever finds me finds life and receives favor from the LORD. MSG 36 But if you wrong me, you damage your very soul; when you reject me, you're flirting with death." NIV 36 But whoever fails to find me harms himself; all who hate me love death."
