Proverbs 8

NCV 1 Wisdom calls to you like someone shouting; understanding raises her voice. NIV 1 Does not wisdom call out? Does not understanding raise her voice? NCV 2 On the hilltops along the road and at the crossroads, she stands calling. NIV 2 On the heights along the way, where the paths meet, she takes her stand; NCV 3 Beside the city gates, at the entrances into the city, she calls out: NIV 3 beside the gates leading into the city, at the entrances, she cries aloud: NCV 4 "Listen, everyone, I'm calling out to you; I am shouting to all people. NIV 4 "To you, O men, I call out; I raise my voice to all mankind. NCV 5 You who are uneducated, be smarter. You who are foolish, get understanding. NIV 5 You who are simple, gain prudence; you who are foolish, gain understanding. NCV 6 Listen, because I have important things to say, and what I tell you is right. NIV 6 Listen, for I have worthy things to say; I open my lips to speak what is right. NCV 7 What I say is true, I refuse to speak evil. NIV 7 My mouth speaks what is true, for my lips detest wickedness. NCV 8 Everything I say is honest; nothing I say is crooked or false. NIV 8 All the words of my mouth are just; none of them is crooked or perverse. NCV 9 People with good sense know what I say is true; and those with knowledge know my words are right. NIV 9 To the discerning all of them are right; they are faultless to those who have knowledge. NCV 10 Choose my teachings instead of silver, and knowledge rather than the finest gold. NIV 10 Choose my instruction instead of silver, knowledge rather than choice gold, NCV 11 Wisdom is more precious than rubies. Nothing you could want is equal to it. NIV 11 for wisdom is more precious than rubies, and nothing you desire can compare with her. NCV 12 "I am wisdom, and I am smart. I also have knowledge and good sense. NIV 12 "I, wisdom, dwell together with prudence; I possess knowledge and discretion. NCV 13 If you respect the Lord, you will also hate evil. I hate pride and bragging, evil ways and lies. NIV 13 To fear the LORD is to hate evil; I hate pride and arrogance, evil behavior and perverse speech. NCV 14 I have good sense and advice, and I have understanding and power. NIV 14 Counsel and sound judgment are mine; I have understanding and power. NCV 15 I help kings to govern and rulers to make fair laws. NIV 15 By me kings reign and rulers make laws that are just; NCV 16 Princes use me to lead, and so do all important people who judge fairly. NIV 16 by me princes govern, and all nobles who rule on earth. NCV 17 I love those who love me, and those who seek me find me. NIV 17 I love those who love me, and those who seek me find me. NCV 18 Riches and honor are mine to give. So are wealth and lasting success. NIV 18 With me are riches and honor, enduring wealth and prosperity. NCV 19 What I give is better than the finest gold, better than the purest silver. NIV 19 My fruit is better than fine gold; what I yield surpasses choice silver. NCV 20 I do what is right and follow the path of justice. NIV 20 I walk in the way of righteousness, along the paths of justice, NCV 21 I give wealth to those who love me, filling their houses with treasures. NIV 21 bestowing wealth on those who love me and making their treasuries full. NCV 22 "I, wisdom, was with the Lord when he began his work, long before he made anything else. NIV 22 "The LORD brought me forth as the first of his works, before his deeds of old; NCV 23 I was created in the very beginning, even before the world began. NIV 23 I was appointed from eternity, from the beginning, before the world began. NCV 24 I was born before there were oceans, or springs overflowing with water, NIV 24 When there were no oceans, I was given birth, when there were no springs abounding with water; NCV 25 before the hills were there, before the mountains were put in place. NIV 25 before the mountains were settled in place, before the hills, I was given birth, NCV 26 God had not made the earth or fields, not even the first dust of the earth. NIV 26 before he made the earth or its fields or any of the dust of the world. NCV 27 I was there when God put the skies in place, when he stretched the horizon over the oceans, NIV 27 I was there when he set the heavens in place, when he marked out the horizon on the face of the deep, NCV 28 when he made the clouds above and put the deep underground springs in place. NIV 28 when he established the clouds above and fixed securely the fountains of the deep, NCV 29 I was there when he ordered the sea not to go beyond the borders he had set. I was there when he laid the earth's foundation. NIV 29 when he gave the sea its boundary so the waters would not overstep his command, and when he marked out the foundations of the earth. NCV 30 I was like a child by his side. I was delighted every day, enjoying his presence all the time, NIV 30 Then I was the craftsman at his side. I was filled with delight day after day, rejoicing always in his presence, NCV 31 enjoying the whole world, and delighted with all its people. NIV 31 rejoicing in his whole world and delighting in mankind. NCV 32 "Now, my children, listen to me, because those who follow my ways are happy. NIV 32 "Now then, my sons, listen to me; blessed are those who keep my ways. NCV 33 Listen to my teaching, and you will be wise; do not ignore it. NIV 33 Listen to my instruction and be wise; do not ignore it. NCV 34 Happy are those who listen to me, watching at my door every day, waiting at my open doorway. NIV 34 Blessed is the man who listens to me, watching daily at my doors, waiting at my doorway. NCV 35 Those who find me find life, and the Lord will be pleased with them. NIV 35 For whoever finds me finds life and receives favor from the LORD. NCV 36 Those who do not find me hurt themselves. Those who hate me love death." NIV 36 But whoever fails to find me harms himself; all who hate me love death."
