Proverbs 9

NAS 1 Wisdom has built her house, She has hewn out her seven pillars; NIV 1 Wisdom has built her house; she has hewn out its seven pillars. NAS 2 She has prepared her food, she has mixed her wine; She has also set her table; NIV 2 She has prepared her meat and mixed her wine; she has also set her table. NAS 3 She has sent out her maidens, she calls From the tops of the heights of the city: NIV 3 She has sent out her maids, and she calls from the highest point of the city. NAS 4 "Whoever is naive, let him turn in here!" To him who lacks understanding she says, NIV 4 "Let all who are simple come in here!" she says to those who lack judgment. NAS 5 "Come, eat of my food And drink of the wine I have mixed. NIV 5 "Come, eat my food and drink the wine I have mixed. NAS 6 "Forsake your folly and live, And proceed in the way of understanding." NIV 6 Leave your simple ways and you will live; walk in the way of understanding. NAS 7 He who corrects a scoffer gets dishonor for himself, And he who reproves a wicked man gets insults for himself. NIV 7 "Whoever corrects a mocker invites insult; whoever rebukes a wicked man incurs abuse. NAS 8 Do not reprove a scoffer, or he will hate you, Reprove a wise man and he will love you. NIV 8 Do not rebuke a mocker or he will hate you; rebuke a wise man and he will love you. NAS 9 Give instruction to a wise man and he will be still wiser, Teach a righteous man and he will increase his learning. NIV 9 Instruct a wise man and he will be wiser still; teach a righteous man and he will add to his learning. NAS 10 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, And the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding. NIV 10 "The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding. NAS 11 For by me your days will be multiplied, And years of life will be added to you. NIV 11 For through me your days will be many, and years will be added to your life. NAS 12 If you are wise, you are wise for yourself, And if you scoff, you alone will bear it. NIV 12 If you are wise, your wisdom will reward you; if you are a mocker, you alone will suffer." NAS 13 The woman of folly is boisterous, She is naive and knows nothing . NIV 13 The woman Folly is loud; she is undisciplined and without knowledge. NAS 14 She sits at the doorway of her house, On a seat by the high places of the city, NIV 14 She sits at the door of her house, on a seat at the highest point of the city, NAS 15 Calling to those who pass by, Who are making their paths straight: NIV 15 calling out to those who pass by, who go straight on their way. NAS 16 "Whoever is naive, let him turn in here," And to him who lacks understanding she says, NIV 16 "Let all who are simple come in here!" she says to those who lack judgment. NAS 17 "Stolen water is sweet; And bread eaten in secret is pleasant." NIV 17 "Stolen water is sweet; food eaten in secret is delicious!" NAS 18 But he does not know that the dead are there, That her guests are in the depths of Sheol. NIV 18 But little do they know that the dead are there, that her guests are in the depths of the grave.
