Proverbs 9

NRS 1 Wisdom has built her house, she has hewn her seven pillars. NIV 1 Wisdom has built her house; she has hewn out its seven pillars. NRS 2 She has slaughtered her animals, she has mixed her wine, she has also set her table. NIV 2 She has prepared her meat and mixed her wine; she has also set her table. NRS 3 She has sent out her servant-girls, she calls from the highest places in the town, NIV 3 She has sent out her maids, and she calls from the highest point of the city. NRS 4 "You that are simple, turn in here!" To those without sense she says, NIV 4 "Let all who are simple come in here!" she says to those who lack judgment. NRS 5 "Come, eat of my bread and drink of the wine I have mixed. NIV 5 "Come, eat my food and drink the wine I have mixed. NRS 6 Lay aside immaturity, and live, and walk in the way of insight." NIV 6 Leave your simple ways and you will live; walk in the way of understanding. NRS 7 Whoever corrects a scoffer wins abuse; whoever rebukes the wicked gets hurt. NIV 7 "Whoever corrects a mocker invites insult; whoever rebukes a wicked man incurs abuse. NRS 8 A scoffer who is rebuked will only hate you; the wise, when rebuked, will love you. NIV 8 Do not rebuke a mocker or he will hate you; rebuke a wise man and he will love you. NRS 9 Give instruction to the wise, and they will become wiser still; teach the righteous and they will gain in learning. NIV 9 Instruct a wise man and he will be wiser still; teach a righteous man and he will add to his learning. NRS 10 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is insight. NIV 10 "The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding. NRS 11 For by me your days will be multiplied, and years will be added to your life. NIV 11 For through me your days will be many, and years will be added to your life. NRS 12 If you are wise, you are wise for yourself; if you scoff, you alone will bear it. NIV 12 If you are wise, your wisdom will reward you; if you are a mocker, you alone will suffer." NRS 13 The foolish woman is loud; she is ignorant and knows nothing. NIV 13 The woman Folly is loud; she is undisciplined and without knowledge. NRS 14 She sits at the door of her house, on a seat at the high places of the town, NIV 14 She sits at the door of her house, on a seat at the highest point of the city, NRS 15 calling to those who pass by, who are going straight on their way, NIV 15 calling out to those who pass by, who go straight on their way. NRS 17 "Stolen water is sweet, and bread eaten in secret is pleasant." NIV 17 "Stolen water is sweet; food eaten in secret is delicious!" NRS 18 But they do not know that the dead are there, that her guests are in the depths of Sheol. NIV 18 But little do they know that the dead are there, that her guests are in the depths of the grave.
