1 <<For the Chief Musician. By David.>> The fool has said in his heart, "There is no God." They are corrupt, they have done abominable works. There is none who does good.
1 The fool says in his heart, “There is no God.” They are corrupt, their deeds are vile; there is no one who does good.
2 The LORD looked down from heaven on the children of men, To see if there were any who did understand, Who did seek after God.
2 The LORD looks down from heaven on all mankind to see if there are any who understand, any who seek God.
3 They have all gone aside; they have together become corrupt. There is none who does good, no, not one.
3 All have turned away, all have become corrupt; there is no one who does good, not even one.
4 Have all the workers of iniquity no knowledge, Who eat up my people as they eat bread, And don't call on the LORD?
4 Do all these evildoers know nothing? They devour my people as though eating bread; they never call on the LORD.
5 There were they in great fear, For God is in the generation of the righteous.
5 But there they are, overwhelmed with dread, for God is present in the company of the righteous.
6 You put to shame the counsel of the poor, Because the LORD is his refuge.
6 You evildoers frustrate the plans of the poor, but the LORD is their refuge.
7 Oh that the yeshu`ah of Yisra'el would come out of Tziyon! When the LORD restores the fortunes of his people, Then Ya`akov shall rejoice, and Yisra'el shall be glad.
7 Oh, that salvation for Israel would come out of Zion! When the LORD restores his people, let Jacob rejoice and Israel be glad!
