Psalm 22

CEB 1 My God! My God, why have you left me all alone? Why are you so far from saving me— so far from my anguished groans? NRS 1 My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? Why are you so far from helping me, from the words of my groaning? CEB 2 My God, I cry out during the day, but you don't answer; even at nighttime I don't stop. NRS 2 O my God, I cry by day, but you do not answer; and by night, but find no rest. CEB 3 You are the holy one, enthroned. You are Israel's praise. NRS 3 Yet you are holy, enthroned on the praises of Israel. CEB 4 Our ancestors trusted you— they trusted you and you rescued them; NRS 4 In you our ancestors trusted; they trusted, and you delivered them. CEB 5 they cried out to you and they were saved; they trusted you and they weren't ashamed. NRS 5 To you they cried, and were saved; in you they trusted, and were not put to shame. CEB 6 But I'm just a worm, less than human; insulted by one person, despised by another. NRS 6 But I am a worm, and not human; scorned by others, and despised by the people. CEB 7 All who see me make fun of me— they gape, shaking their heads: NRS 7 All who see me mock at me; they make mouths at me, they shake their heads; CEB 8 "He committed himself to the LORD, so let God rescue him; let God deliver him because God likes him so much." NRS 8 "Commit your cause to the Lord; let him deliver— let him rescue the one in whom he delights!" CEB 9 But you are the one who pulled me from the womb, placing me safely at my mother's breasts. NRS 9 Yet it was you who took me from the womb; you kept me safe on my mother's breast. CEB 10 I was thrown on you from birth; you've been my God since I was in my mother's womb. NRS 10 On you I was cast from my birth, and since my mother bore me you have been my God. CEB 11 Please don't be far from me, because trouble is near and there's no one to help. NRS 11 Do not be far from me, for trouble is near and there is no one to help. CEB 12 Many bulls surround me; mighty bulls from Bashan encircle me. NRS 12 Many bulls encircle me, strong bulls of Bashan surround me; CEB 13 They open their mouths at me like a lion ripping and roaring! NRS 13 they open wide their mouths at me, like a ravening and roaring lion. CEB 14 I'm poured out like water. All my bones have fallen apart. My heart is like wax; it melts inside me. NRS 14 I am poured out like water, and all my bones are out of joint; my heart is like wax; it is melted within my breast; CEB 15 My strength is dried up like a piece of broken pottery. My tongue sticks to the roof of my mouth; you've set me down in the dirt of death. NRS 15 my mouth is dried up like a potsherd, and my tongue sticks to my jaws; you lay me in the dust of death. CEB 16 Dogs surround me; a pack of evil people circle me like a lion— oh, my poor hands and feet! NRS 16 For dogs are all around me; a company of evildoers encircles me. My hands and feet have shriveled; CEB 17 I can count all my bones! Meanwhile, they just stare at me, watching me. NRS 17 I can count all my bones. They stare and gloat over me; CEB 18 They divvy up my garments among themselves; they cast lots for my clothes. NRS 18 they divide my clothes among themselves, and for my clothing they cast lots. CEB 19 But you, LORD! Don't be far away! You are my strength! Come quick and help me! NRS 19 But you, O Lord, do not be far away! O my help, come quickly to my aid! CEB 20 Deliver me from the sword. Deliver my life from the power of the dog. NRS 20 Deliver my soul from the sword, my life from the power of the dog! CEB 21 Save me from the mouth of the lion. From the horns of the wild oxen you have answered me! NRS 21 Save me from the mouth of the lion! From the horns of the wild oxen you have rescued me. CEB 22 I will declare your name to my brothers and sisters; I will praise you in the very center of the congregation! NRS 22 I will tell of your name to my brothers and sisters; in the midst of the congregation I will praise you: CEB 23 All of you who revere the LORD—praise him! All of you who are Jacob's descendants—honor him! All of you who are all Israel's offspring— stand in awe of him! NRS 23 You who fear the Lord, praise him! All you offspring of Jacob, glorify him; stand in awe of him, all you offspring of Israel! CEB 24 Because he didn't despise or detest the suffering of the one who suffered— he didn't hide his face from me. No, he listened when I cried out to him for help. NRS 24 For he did not despise or abhor the affliction of the afflicted; he did not hide his face from me, but heard when I cried to him. CEB 25 I offer praise in the great congregation because of you; I will fulfill my promises in the presence of those who honor God. NRS 25 From you comes my praise in the great congregation; my vows I will pay before those who fear him. CEB 26 Let all those who are suffering eat and be full! Let all who seek the LORD praise him! I pray your hearts live forever! NRS 26 The poor shall eat and be satisfied; those who seek him shall praise the Lord. May your hearts live forever! CEB 27 Every part of the earth will remember and come back to the LORD; every family among all the nations will worship you. NRS 27 All the ends of the earth shall remember and turn to the Lord; and all the families of the nations shall worship before him. CEB 28 Because the right to rule belongs to the LORD, he rules all nations. NRS 28 For dominion belongs to the Lord, and he rules over the nations. CEB 29 Indeed, all the earth's powerful will worship him; all who are descending to the dust will kneel before him; my being also lives for him. NRS 29 To him, indeed, shall all who sleep in the earth bow down; before him shall bow all who go down to the dust, and I shall live for him. CEB 30 Future descendants will serve him; generations to come will be told about my Lord. NRS 30 Posterity will serve him; future generations will be told about the Lord, CEB 31 They will proclaim God's righteousness to those not yet born, telling them what God has done. NRS 31 and proclaim his deliverance to a people yet unborn, saying that he has done it.
