Psalm 40:1-11

CEB 1 I put all my hope in the LORD. He leaned down to me; he listened to my cry for help. NRS 1 I waited patiently for the Lord; he inclined to me and heard my cry. CEB 2 He lifted me out of the pit of death, out of the mud and filth, and set my feet on solid rock. He steadied my legs. NRS 2 He drew me up from the desolate pit, out of the miry bog, and set my feet upon a rock, making my steps secure. CEB 3 He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise for our God. Many people will learn of this and be amazed; they will trust the LORD. NRS 3 He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God. Many will see and fear, and put their trust in the Lord. CEB 4 Those who put their trust in the LORD, who pay no attention to the proud or to those who follow lies, are truly happy! NRS 4 Happy are those who make the Lord their trust, who do not turn to the proud, to those who go astray after false gods. CEB 5 You, LORD my God! You've done so many things— your wonderful deeds and your plans for us— no one can compare with you! If I were to proclaim and talk about all of them, they would be too numerous to count! NRS 5 You have multiplied, O Lord my God, your wondrous deeds and your thoughts toward us; none can compare with you. Were I to proclaim and tell of them, they would be more than can be counted. CEB 6 You don't relish sacrifices or offerings; you don't require entirely burned offerings or compensation offerings— but you have given me ears! NRS 6 Sacrifice and offering you do not desire, but you have given me an open ear. Burnt offering and sin offering you have not required. CEB 7 So I said, "Here I come! I'm inscribed in the written scroll. NRS 7 Then I said, "Here I am; in the scroll of the book it is written of me. CEB 8 I want to do your will, my God. Your Instruction is deep within me." NRS 8 I delight to do your will, O my God; your law is within my heart." CEB 9 I've told the good news of your righteousness in the great assembly. I didn't hold anything back— as you well know, LORD! NRS 9 I have told the glad news of deliverance in the great congregation; see, I have not restrained my lips, as you know, O Lord. CEB 10 I didn't keep your righteousness only to myself. I declared your faithfulness and your salvation. I didn't hide your loyal love and trustworthiness from the great assembly. NRS 10 I have not hidden your saving help within my heart, I have spoken of your faithfulness and your salvation; I have not concealed your steadfast love and your faithfulness from the great congregation. CEB 11 So now you, LORD— don't hold back any of your compassion from me. Let your loyal love and faithfulness always protect me, NRS 11 Do not, O Lord, withhold your mercy from me; let your steadfast love and your faithfulness keep me safe forever.
