Psalm 10

NLT 1 O , why do you stand so far away? Why do you hide when I am in trouble? NIV 1 Why, O LORD, do you stand far off ? Why do you hide yourself in times of trouble? NLT 2 The wicked arrogantly hunt down the poor. Let them be caught in the evil they plan for others. NIV 2 In his arrogance the wicked man hunts down the weak, who are caught in the schemes he devises. NLT 3 For they brag about their evil desires; they praise the greedy and curse the . NIV 3 He boasts of the cravings of his heart; he blesses the greedy and reviles the LORD. NLT 4 The wicked are too proud to seek God. They seem to think that God is dead. NIV 4 In his pride the wicked does not seek him; in all his thoughts there is no room for God. NLT 5 Yet they succeed in everything they do. They do not see your punishment awaiting them. They sneer at all their enemies. NIV 5 His ways are always prosperous; he is haughty and your laws are far from him; he sneers at all his enemies. NLT 6 They think, “Nothing bad will ever happen to us! We will be free of trouble forever!” NIV 6 He says to himself, "Nothing will shake me; I'll always be happy and never have trouble." NLT 7 Their mouths are full of cursing, lies, and threats. Trouble and evil are on the tips of their tongues. NIV 7 His mouth is full of curses and lies and threats; trouble and evil are under his tongue. NLT 8 They lurk in ambush in the villages, waiting to murder innocent people. They are always searching for helpless victims. NIV 8 He lies in wait near the villages; from ambush he murders the innocent, watching in secret for his victims. NLT 9 Like lions crouched in hiding, they wait to pounce on the helpless. Like hunters they capture the helpless and drag them away in nets. NIV 9 He lies in wait like a lion in cover; he lies in wait to catch the helpless; he catches the helpless and drags them off in his net. NLT 10 Their helpless victims are crushed; they fall beneath the strength of the wicked. NIV 10 His victims are crushed, they collapse; they fall under his strength. NLT 11 The wicked think, “God isn’t watching us! He has closed his eyes and won’t even see what we do!” NIV 11 He says to himself, "God has forgotten; he covers his face and never sees." NLT 12 Arise, O ! Punish the wicked, O God! Do not ignore the helpless! NIV 12 Arise, LORD! Lift up your hand, O God. Do not forget the helpless. NLT 13 Why do the wicked get away with despising God? They think, “God will never call us to account.” NIV 13 Why does the wicked man revile God? Why does he say to himself, "He won't call me to account"? NLT 14 But you see the trouble and grief they cause. You take note of it and punish them. The helpless put their trust in you. You defend the orphans. NIV 14 But you, O God, do see trouble and grief; you consider it to take it in hand. The victim commits himself to you; you are the helper of the fatherless. NLT 15 Break the arms of these wicked, evil people! Go after them until the last one is destroyed. NIV 15 Break the arm of the wicked and evil man; call him to account for his wickedness that would not be found out. NLT 16 The is king forever and ever! The godless nations will vanish from the land. NIV 16 The LORD is King for ever and ever; the nations will perish from his land. NLT 17 , you know the hopes of the helpless. Surely you will hear their cries and comfort them. NIV 17 You hear, O LORD, the desire of the afflicted; you encourage them, and you listen to their cry, NLT 18 You will bring justice to the orphans and the oppressed, so mere people can no longer terrify them. NIV 18 defending the fatherless and the oppressed, in order that man, who is of the earth, may terrify no more.
