WEB 1 Why do you stand far off, Yahweh? Why do you hide yourself in times of trouble? NIV 1 Why, O LORD, do you stand far off ? Why do you hide yourself in times of trouble? WEB 2 In arrogance, the wicked hunt down the weak; They are caught in the schemes that they devise. NIV 2 In his arrogance the wicked man hunts down the weak, who are caught in the schemes he devises. WEB 3 For the wicked boasts of his heart's cravings, He blesses the greedy, and condemns Yahweh. NIV 3 He boasts of the cravings of his heart; he blesses the greedy and reviles the LORD. WEB 4 The wicked, in the pride of his face, Has no room in his thoughts for God. NIV 4 In his pride the wicked does not seek him; in all his thoughts there is no room for God. WEB 5 His ways are prosperous at all times; He is haughty, and your laws are far from his sight: As for all his adversaries, he sneers at them. NIV 5 His ways are always prosperous; he is haughty and your laws are far from him; he sneers at all his enemies. WEB 6 He says in his heart, "I shall not be shaken; For generations I shall have no trouble." NIV 6 He says to himself, "Nothing will shake me; I'll always be happy and never have trouble." WEB 7 His mouth is full of cursing, deceit, and oppression. Under his tongue is mischief and iniquity. NIV 7 His mouth is full of curses and lies and threats; trouble and evil are under his tongue. WEB 8 He lies in wait near the villages. From ambushes, he murders the innocent. His eyes are secretly set against the helpless. NIV 8 He lies in wait near the villages; from ambush he murders the innocent, watching in secret for his victims. WEB 9 He lurks in secret as a lion in his ambush. He lies in wait to catch the helpless. He catches the helpless, when he draws him in his net. NIV 9 He lies in wait like a lion in cover; he lies in wait to catch the helpless; he catches the helpless and drags them off in his net. WEB 10 The helpless are crushed, they collapse, They fall under his strength. NIV 10 His victims are crushed, they collapse; they fall under his strength. WEB 11 He says in his heart, "God has forgotten. He hides his face. He will never see it." NIV 11 He says to himself, "God has forgotten; he covers his face and never sees." WEB 12 Arise, Yahweh! God, lift up your hand! Don't forget the helpless. NIV 12 Arise, LORD! Lift up your hand, O God. Do not forget the helpless. WEB 13 Why does the wicked condemn God, And say in his heart, "God won't call me into account?" NIV 13 Why does the wicked man revile God? Why does he say to himself, "He won't call me to account"? WEB 14 But you do see trouble and grief; You consider it to take it into your hand. You help the victim and the fatherless. NIV 14 But you, O God, do see trouble and grief; you consider it to take it in hand. The victim commits himself to you; you are the helper of the fatherless. WEB 15 Break the arm of the wicked. As for the evil man, seek out his wickedness until you find none. NIV 15 Break the arm of the wicked and evil man; call him to account for his wickedness that would not be found out. WEB 16 Yahweh is King forever and ever! The nations will perish out of his land. NIV 16 The LORD is King for ever and ever; the nations will perish from his land. WEB 17 Yahweh, you have heard the desire of the humble. You will prepare their heart. You will cause your ear to hear, NIV 17 You hear, O LORD, the desire of the afflicted; you encourage them, and you listen to their cry, WEB 18 To judge the fatherless and the oppressed, That man who is of the earth may terrify no more. NIV 18 defending the fatherless and the oppressed, in order that man, who is of the earth, may terrify no more.
