NIV 2 Do not hide your face from me when I am in distress. Turn your ear to me; when I call, answer me quickly. WBT 3 For my days are consumed like smoke, and my bones are burned as an hearth. NIV 3 For my days vanish like smoke; my bones burn like glowing embers. WBT 4 My heart is smitten, and withered like grass; so that I forget to eat my bread. NIV 4 My heart is blighted and withered like grass; I forget to eat my food. WBT 5 By reason of the voice of my groaning, my bones cleave to my skin. NIV 5 Because of my loud groaning I am reduced to skin and bones. WBT 6 I am like a pelican of the wilderness: I am like an owl of the desert. NIV 6 I am like a desert owl, like an owl among the ruins. WBT 7 I watch, and am as a sparrow alone upon the house top. NIV 7 I lie awake; I have become like a bird alone on a roof. WBT 8 My enemies reproach me all the day; [and] they that are enraged against me are sworn against me. NIV 8 All day long my enemies taunt me; those who rail against me use my name as a curse. WBT 9 For I have eaten ashes like bread, and mingled my drink with weeping, NIV 9 For I eat ashes as my food and mingle my drink with tears WBT 10 Because of thy indignation and thy wrath: for thou hast lifted me up, and cast me down. NIV 10 because of your great wrath, for you have taken me up and thrown me aside. WBT 11 My days [are] like a shadow that declineth; and I am withered like grass. NIV 11 My days are like the evening shadow; I wither away like grass. WBT 12 But thou, O LORD, shalt endure for ever; and thy remembrance to all generations. NIV 12 But you, O LORD, sit enthroned forever; your renown endures through all generations. WBT 13 Thou shalt arise, [and] have mercy upon Zion: for the time to favor her, yes, the set time, is come. NIV 13 You will arise and have compassion on Zion, for it is time to show favor to her; the appointed time has come. WBT 14 For thy servants take pleasure in her stones, and favor the dust thereof. NIV 14 For her stones are dear to your servants; her very dust moves them to pity. WBT 15 So the heathen shall fear the name of the LORD: and all the kings of the earth thy glory. NIV 15 The nations will fear the name of the LORD, all the kings of the earth will revere your glory. WBT 16 When the LORD shall build up Zion, he will appear in his glory. NIV 16 For the LORD will rebuild Zion and appear in his glory. WBT 17 He will regard the prayer of the destitute, and not despise their prayer. NIV 17 He will respond to the prayer of the destitute; he will not despise their plea. WBT 18 This shall be written for the generation to come: and the people which shall be created shall praise the LORD. NIV 18 Let this be written for a future generation, that a people not yet created may praise the LORD: WBT 19 For he hath looked down from the hight of his sanctuary; from heaven hath the LORD beheld the earth; NIV 19 "The LORD looked down from his sanctuary on high, from heaven he viewed the earth, WBT 20 To hear the groaning of the prisoner; to loose those that are appointed to death; NIV 20 to hear the groans of the prisoners and release those condemned to death." WBT 21 To declare the name of the LORD in Zion, and his praise in Jerusalem; NIV 21 So the name of the LORD will be declared in Zion and his praise in Jerusalem WBT 22 When the people are assembled, and the kingdoms, to serve the LORD. NIV 22 when the peoples and the kingdoms assemble to worship the LORD. WBT 23 He weakened my strength in the way; he shortened my days. NIV 23 In the course of my life he broke my strength; he cut short my days. WBT 24 I said, O my God, take me not away in the midst of my days: thy years [are] throughout all generations. NIV 24 So I said: "Do not take me away, O my God, in the midst of my days; your years go on through all generations. WBT 25 Of old hast thou laid the foundation of the earth: and the heavens [are] the work of thy hands. NIV 25 In the beginning you laid the foundations of the earth, and the heavens are the work of your hands. WBT 26 They shall perish, but thou wilt endure: yes, all of them shall grow old like a garment; as a vesture wilt thou change them, and they shall be changed: NIV 26 They will perish, but you remain; they will all wear out like a garment. Like clothing you will change them and they will be discarded. WBT 27 But thou [art] the same, and thy years will have no end. NIV 27 But you remain the same, and your years will never end. WBT 28 The children of thy servants shall continue, and their seed shall be established before thee. NIV 28 The children of your servants will live in your presence; their descendants will be established before you."
