Psalm 106

BBE 1 Let the Lord be praised. O give praise to the Lord, for he is good: for his mercy is unchanging for ever. NIV 1 Praise the LORD. Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his love endures forever. BBE 2 Who is able to give an account of the great acts of the Lord, or to make clear all his praise? NIV 2 Who can proclaim the mighty acts of the LORD or fully declare his praise? BBE 3 Happy are they whose decisions are upright, and he who does righteousness at all times. NIV 3 Blessed are they who maintain justice, who constantly do what is right. BBE 4 Keep me in mind, O Lord, when you are good to your people; O let your salvation come to me; NIV 4 Remember me, O LORD, when you show favor to your people, come to my aid when you save them, BBE 5 So that I may see the well-being of the people of your selection, and have a part in the joy of your nation, and take pride in your heritage. NIV 5 that I may enjoy the prosperity of your chosen ones, that I may share in the joy of your nation and join your inheritance in giving praise. BBE 6 We are sinners like our fathers, we have done wrong, our acts are evil. NIV 6 We have sinned, even as our fathers did; we have done wrong and acted wickedly. BBE 7 Our fathers did not give thought to your wonders in Egypt; they did not keep in memory the great number of your mercies, but gave you cause for wrath at the sea, even at the Red Sea. NIV 7 When our fathers were in Egypt, they gave no thought to your miracles; they did not remember your many kindnesses, and they rebelled by the sea, the Red Sea. BBE 8 But he was their saviour because of his name, so that men might see his great power. NIV 8 Yet he saved them for his name's sake, to make his mighty power known. BBE 9 By his word the Red Sea was made dry: and he took them through the deep waters as through the waste land. NIV 9 He rebuked the Red Sea, and it dried up; he led them through the depths as through a desert. BBE 10 And he took them safely out of the hands of their haters, and kept them from the attacks of those who were against them. NIV 10 He saved them from the hand of the foe; from the hand of the enemy he redeemed them. BBE 11 And the waters went over their haters; all of them came to an end. NIV 11 The waters covered their adversaries; not one of them survived. BBE 12 Then they had faith in his words; they gave him songs of praise. NIV 12 Then they believed his promises and sang his praise. BBE 13 But their memory of his works was short; not waiting to be guided by him, NIV 13 But they soon forgot what he had done and did not wait for his counsel. BBE 14 They gave way to their evil desires in the waste land, and put God to the test in the dry places. NIV 14 In the desert they gave in to their craving; in the wasteland they put God to the test. BBE 15 And he gave them their request, but sent a wasting disease into their souls. NIV 15 So he gave them what they asked for, but sent a wasting disease upon them. BBE 16 They were full of envy against Moses among the tents, and against Aaron, the holy one of the Lord. NIV 16 In the camp they grew envious of Moses and of Aaron, who was consecrated to the LORD. BBE 17 The earth opening put an end to Dathan, covering up Abiram and his band. NIV 17 The earth opened up and swallowed Dathan; it buried the company of Abiram. BBE 18 And a fire was lighted among their tents; the sinners were burned up by the flames. NIV 18 Fire blazed among their followers; a flame consumed the wicked. BBE 19 They made a young ox in Horeb, and gave worship to an image of gold. NIV 19 At Horeb they made a calf and worshiped an idol cast from metal. BBE 20 And their glory was changed into the image of an ox, whose food is grass. NIV 20 They exchanged their Glory for an image of a bull, which eats grass. BBE 21 They had no memory of God their saviour, who had done great things in Egypt; NIV 21 They forgot the God who saved them, who had done great things in Egypt, BBE 22 Works of wonder in the land of Ham, and things of fear by the Red Sea. NIV 22 miracles in the land of Ham and awesome deeds by the Red Sea. BBE 23 And he was purposing to put an end to them if Moses, his special servant, had not gone up before him, between him and his people, turning back his wrath, to keep them from destruction. NIV 23 So he said he would destroy them-- had not Moses, his chosen one, stood in the breach before him to keep his wrath from destroying them. BBE 24 They were disgusted with the good land; they had no belief in his word; NIV 24 Then they despised the pleasant land; they did not believe his promise. BBE 25 Talking against him secretly in their tents, they did not give ear to the voice of the Lord. NIV 25 They grumbled in their tents and did not obey the LORD. BBE 26 So he made an oath against them, to put an end to them in the waste land: NIV 26 So he swore to them with uplifted hand that he would make them fall in the desert, BBE 27 That their children might be mixed among the nations, and sent away into other lands. NIV 27 make their descendants fall among the nations and scatter them throughout the lands. BBE 28 And they were joined to Baal-peor, and took part in the offerings to the dead. NIV 28 They yoked themselves to the Baal of Peor and ate sacrifices offered to lifeless gods; BBE 29 So they made him angry by their behaviour; and he sent disease on them. NIV 29 they provoked the LORD to anger by their wicked deeds, and a plague broke out among them. BBE 30 Then Phinehas got up, and made prayer for them; and the disease went no farther. NIV 30 But Phinehas stood up and intervened, and the plague was checked. BBE 31 And all the generations coming after him kept the memory of his righteousness for ever. NIV 31 This was credited to him as righteousness for endless generations to come. BBE 32 They made God angry again at the waters of Meribah, so that Moses was troubled because of them; NIV 32 By the waters of Meribah they angered the LORD, and trouble came to Moses because of them; BBE 33 For they made his spirit bitter, and he said unwise things. NIV 33 for they rebelled against the Spirit of God, and rash words came from Moses' lips. BBE 34 They did not put an end to the peoples, as the Lord had said; NIV 34 They did not destroy the peoples as the LORD had commanded them, BBE 35 But they were joined to the nations, learning their works. NIV 35 but they mingled with the nations and adopted their customs. BBE 36 And they gave worship to images; which were a danger to them: NIV 36 They worshiped their idols, which became a snare to them. BBE 37 They even made offerings of their sons and their daughters to evil spirits, NIV 37 They sacrificed their sons and their daughters to demons. BBE 38 And gave the blood of their sons and their daughters who had done no wrong, offering them to the images of Canaan; and the land was made unclean with blood. NIV 38 They shed innocent blood, the blood of their sons and daughters, whom they sacrificed to the idols of Canaan, and the land was desecrated by their blood. BBE 39 So they became unclean through their works, going after their evil desires. NIV 39 They defiled themselves by what they did; by their deeds they prostituted themselves. BBE 40 Then the wrath of the Lord was burning against his people, and he was angry with his heritage. NIV 40 Therefore the LORD was angry with his people and abhorred his inheritance. BBE 41 And he gave them into the hands of the nations; and they were ruled by their haters. NIV 41 He handed them over to the nations, and their foes ruled over them. BBE 42 By them they were crushed, and made low under their hands. NIV 42 Their enemies oppressed them and subjected them to their power. BBE 43 Again and again he made them free; but their hearts were turned against his purpose, and they were overcome by their sins. NIV 43 Many times he delivered them, but they were bent on rebellion and they wasted away in their sin. BBE 44 But when their cry came to his ears, he had pity on their trouble: NIV 44 But he took note of their distress when he heard their cry; BBE 45 And kept in mind his agreement with them, and in his great mercy gave them forgiveness. NIV 45 for their sake he remembered his covenant and out of his great love he relented. BBE 46 He put pity into the hearts of those who made them prisoners. NIV 46 He caused them to be pitied by all who held them captive. BBE 47 Be our saviour, O Lord our God, and let us come back together from among the nations, so that we may give honour to your holy name, and have glory in your praise. NIV 47 Save us, O LORD our God, and gather us from the nations, that we may give thanks to your holy name and glory in your praise. BBE 48 Praise be to the Lord God of Israel for ever and for ever; and let all the people say, So be it. Give praise to the Lord. NIV 48 Praise be to the LORD, the God of Israel, from everlasting to everlasting. Let all the people say, "Amen!" Praise the LORD.
