Psalm 107

CEB 1 "Give thanks to the LORD because he is good, because his faithful love lasts forever!" NIV 1 Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his love endures forever. CEB 2 That's what those who are redeemed by the LORD say, the ones God redeemed from the power of their enemies, NIV 2 Let the redeemed of the LORD say this-- those he redeemed from the hand of the foe, CEB 3 the ones God gathered from various countries, from east and west, north and south. NIV 3 those he gathered from the lands, from east and west, from north and south. CEB 4 Some of the redeemed had wandered into the desert, into the wasteland. They couldn't find their way to a city or town. NIV 4 Some wandered in desert wastelands, finding no way to a city where they could settle. CEB 5 They were hungry and thirsty; their lives were slipping away. NIV 5 They were hungry and thirsty, and their lives ebbed away. CEB 6 So they cried out to the LORD in their distress, and God delivered them from their desperate circumstances. NIV 6 Then they cried out to the LORD in their trouble, and he delivered them from their distress. CEB 7 God led them straight to human habitation. NIV 7 He led them by a straight way to a city where they could settle. CEB 8 Let them thank the LORD for his faithful love and his wondrous works for all people, NIV 8 Let them give thanks to the LORD for his unfailing love and his wonderful deeds for men, CEB 9 because God satisfied the one who was parched with thirst, and he filled up the hungry with good things! NIV 9 for he satisfies the thirsty and fills the hungry with good things. CEB 10 Some of the redeemed had been sitting in darkness and deep gloom; they were prisoners suffering in chains NIV 10 Some sat in darkness and the deepest gloom, prisoners suffering in iron chains, CEB 11 because they had disobeyed God's instructions and rejected the Most High's plans. NIV 11 for they had rebelled against the words of God and despised the counsel of the Most High. CEB 12 So God humbled them with hard work. They stumbled, and there was no one to help them. NIV 12 So he subjected them to bitter labor; they stumbled, and there was no one to help. CEB 13 So they cried out to the LORD in their distress, and God saved them from their desperate circumstances. NIV 13 Then they cried to the LORD in their trouble, and he saved them from their distress. CEB 14 God brought them out from the darkness and deep gloom; he shattered their chains. NIV 14 He brought them out of darkness and the deepest gloom and broke away their chains. CEB 15 Let them thank the LORD for his faithful love and his wondrous works for all people, NIV 15 Let them give thanks to the LORD for his unfailing love and his wonderful deeds for men, CEB 16 because God has shattered bronze doors and split iron bars in two! NIV 16 for he breaks down gates of bronze and cuts through bars of iron. CEB 17 Some of the redeemed were fools because of their sinful ways. They suffered because of their wickedness. NIV 17 Some became fools through their rebellious ways and suffered affliction because of their iniquities. CEB 18 They had absolutely no appetite for food; they had arrived at death's gates. NIV 18 They loathed all food and drew near the gates of death. CEB 19 So they cried out to the LORD in their distress, and God saved them from their desperate circumstances. NIV 19 Then they cried to the LORD in their trouble, and he saved them from their distress. CEB 20 God gave the order and healed them; he rescued them from their pit. NIV 20 He sent forth his word and healed them; he rescued them from the grave. CEB 21 Let them thank the LORD for his faithful love and his wondrous works for all people. NIV 21 Let them give thanks to the LORD for his unfailing love and his wonderful deeds for men. CEB 22 Let them offer thanksgiving sacrifices and declare what God has donein songs of joy! NIV 22 Let them sacrifice thank offerings and tell of his works with songs of joy. CEB 23 Some of the redeemed had gone out on the ocean in ships, making their living on the high seas. NIV 23 Others went out on the sea in ships; they were merchants on the mighty waters. CEB 24 They saw what the LORD had made; they saw his wondrous works in the depths of the sea. NIV 24 They saw the works of the LORD, his wonderful deeds in the deep. CEB 25 God spoke and stirred up a storm that brought the waves up high. NIV 25 For he spoke and stirred up a tempest that lifted high the waves. CEB 26 The waves went as high as the sky; they crashed down to the depths. The sailors' courage melted at this terrible situation. NIV 26 They mounted up to the heavens and went down to the depths; in their peril their courage melted away. CEB 27 They staggered and stumbled around like they were drunk. None of their skill was of any help. NIV 27 They reeled and staggered like drunken men; they were at their wits' end. CEB 28 So they cried out to the LORD in their distress, and God brought them out safe from their desperate circumstances. NIV 28 Then they cried out to the LORD in their trouble, and he brought them out of their distress. CEB 29 God quieted the storm to a whisper; the sea's waves were hushed. NIV 29 He stilled the storm to a whisper; the waves of the sea were hushed. CEB 30 So they rejoiced because the waves had calmed down; then God led them to the harbor they were hoping for. NIV 30 They were glad when it grew calm, and he guided them to their desired haven. CEB 31 Let them thank the LORD for his faithful love and his wondrous works for all people. NIV 31 Let them give thanks to the LORD for his unfailing love and his wonderful deeds for men. CEB 32 Let them exalt God in the congregation of the people and praise God in the assembly of the elders. NIV 32 Let them exalt him in the assembly of the people and praise him in the council of the elders. CEB 33 God turns rivers into desert, watery springs into thirsty ground, NIV 33 He turned rivers into a desert, flowing springs into thirsty ground, CEB 34 fruitful land into unproductive dirt, when its inhabitants are wicked. NIV 34 and fruitful land into a salt waste, because of the wickedness of those who lived there. CEB 35 But God can also turn the desert into watery pools, thirsty ground into watery springs, NIV 35 He turned the desert into pools of water and the parched ground into flowing springs; CEB 36 where he settles the hungry. They even build a city and live there! NIV 36 there he brought the hungry to live, and they founded a city where they could settle. CEB 37 They plant fields and vineyards and obtain a fruitful harvest. NIV 37 They sowed fields and planted vineyards that yielded a fruitful harvest; CEB 38 God blesses them, and they become many. God won't even let their cattle diminish. NIV 38 he blessed them, and their numbers greatly increased, and he did not let their herds diminish. CEB 39 But when they do diminish— when they're brought down by oppression, trouble, and grief— NIV 39 Then their numbers decreased, and they were humbled by oppression, calamity and sorrow; CEB 40 God pours contempt on their leaders, making them wander aimlessly in the wastelands. NIV 40 he who pours contempt on nobles made them wander in a trackless waste. CEB 41 But God raises the needy from their suffering; he makes their families as numerous as sheep! NIV 41 But he lifted the needy out of their affliction and increased their families like flocks. CEB 42 Those who do right see it and celebrate, but every wicked person shuts their mouth. NIV 42 The upright see and rejoice, but all the wicked shut their mouths. CEB 43 Whoever is wise will pay attention to these things, carefully considering the LORD's faithful love. NIV 43 Whoever is wise, let him heed these things and consider the great love of the LORD.
