Psalm 107

CJB 1 Give thanks to ADONAI; for he is good, for his grace continues forever. NIV 1 Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his love endures forever. CJB 2 Let those redeemed by ADONAI say it, those he redeemed from the power of the foe. NIV 2 Let the redeemed of the LORD say this-- those he redeemed from the hand of the foe, CJB 3 He gathered them from the lands, from the east and from the west, from the north and from the sea. NIV 3 those he gathered from the lands, from east and west, from north and south. CJB 4 They wandered in the desert, on paths through the wastes, without finding any inhabited city. NIV 4 Some wandered in desert wastelands, finding no way to a city where they could settle. CJB 5 They were hungry and thirsty, their life was ebbing away. NIV 5 They were hungry and thirsty, and their lives ebbed away. CJB 6 In their trouble they cried to ADONAI, and he rescued them from their distress. NIV 6 Then they cried out to the LORD in their trouble, and he delivered them from their distress. CJB 7 He led them by a direct path to a city where they could live. NIV 7 He led them by a straight way to a city where they could settle. CJB 8 Let them give thanks to ADONAI for his grace, for his wonders bestowed on humanity! NIV 8 Let them give thanks to the LORD for his unfailing love and his wonderful deeds for men, CJB 9 For he has satisfied the hungry, filled the starving with good. NIV 9 for he satisfies the thirsty and fills the hungry with good things. CJB 10 Some lived in darkness, in death-dark gloom, bound in misery and iron chains, NIV 10 Some sat in darkness and the deepest gloom, prisoners suffering in iron chains, CJB 11 because they defied God's word, scorned the counsel of the Most High. NIV 11 for they had rebelled against the words of God and despised the counsel of the Most High. CJB 12 So he humbled their hearts by hard labor; when they stumbled, no one came to their aid. NIV 12 So he subjected them to bitter labor; they stumbled, and there was no one to help. CJB 13 In their trouble they cried to ADONAI, and he rescued them from their distress. NIV 13 Then they cried to the LORD in their trouble, and he saved them from their distress. CJB 14 He led them from darkness, from death-dark gloom, shattering their chains. NIV 14 He brought them out of darkness and the deepest gloom and broke away their chains. CJB 15 Let them give thanks to ADONAI for his grace, for his wonders bestowed on humanity! NIV 15 Let them give thanks to the LORD for his unfailing love and his wonderful deeds for men, CJB 16 For he shattered bronze doors and cut through iron bars. NIV 16 for he breaks down gates of bronze and cuts through bars of iron. CJB 17 There were foolish people who suffered affliction because of their crimes and sins; NIV 17 Some became fools through their rebellious ways and suffered affliction because of their iniquities. CJB 18 they couldn't stand to eat anything; they were near the gates of death. NIV 18 They loathed all food and drew near the gates of death. CJB 19 In their trouble they cried to ADONAI, and he rescued them from their distress; NIV 19 Then they cried to the LORD in their trouble, and he saved them from their distress. CJB 20 he sent his word and healed them, he delivered them from destruction. NIV 20 He sent forth his word and healed them; he rescued them from the grave. CJB 23 Those who go down to the sea in ships, plying their trade on the great ocean, NIV 23 Others went out on the sea in ships; they were merchants on the mighty waters. CJB 24 saw the works of ADONAI, his wonders in the deep. NIV 24 They saw the works of the LORD, his wonderful deeds in the deep. CJB 25 For at his word the storm-wind arose, lifting up towering waves. NIV 25 For he spoke and stirred up a tempest that lifted high the waves. CJB 26 The sailors were raised up to the sky, then plunged into the depths. At the danger, their courage failed them, NIV 26 They mounted up to the heavens and went down to the depths; in their peril their courage melted away. CJB 37 there they sow fields and plant vineyards, which yield an abundant harvest. NIV 37 They sowed fields and planted vineyards that yielded a fruitful harvest; CJB 38 He blesses them, their numbers grow, and he doesn't let their livestock decrease. NIV 38 he blessed them, and their numbers greatly increased, and he did not let their herds diminish. CJB 39 When their numbers fall, and they grow weak, because of oppression, disaster and sorrow, NIV 39 Then their numbers decreased, and they were humbled by oppression, calamity and sorrow; CJB 40 he pours contempt on princes and leaves them to wander in trackless wastes. NIV 40 he who pours contempt on nobles made them wander in a trackless waste. CJB 41 But the needy he raises up from their distress and increases their families like sheep.
