NIV 10 Some sat in darkness and the deepest gloom, prisoners suffering in iron chains, NCV 11 They had turned against the words of God and had refused the advice of God Most High. NIV 11 for they had rebelled against the words of God and despised the counsel of the Most High. NCV 12 So he broke their pride by hard work. They stumbled, and no one helped. NIV 12 So he subjected them to bitter labor; they stumbled, and there was no one to help. NCV 13 In their misery they cried out to the Lord, and he saved them from their troubles. NIV 17 Some became fools through their rebellious ways and suffered affliction because of their iniquities. NCV 18 They refused to eat anything, so they almost died. NIV 18 They loathed all food and drew near the gates of death. NCV 19 In their misery they cried out to the Lord, and he saved them from their troubles. NIV 19 Then they cried to the LORD in their trouble, and he saved them from their distress. NCV 20 God gave the command and healed them, so they were saved from dying. NIV 23 Others went out on the sea in ships; they were merchants on the mighty waters. NCV 24 They saw what the Lord could do, the miracles he did in the deep oceans. NIV 24 They saw the works of the LORD, his wonderful deeds in the deep. NCV 25 He spoke, and a storm came up, which blew up high waves. NIV 25 For he spoke and stirred up a tempest that lifted high the waves. NCV 26 The ships were tossed as high as the sky and fell low to the depths. The storm was so bad that they lost their courage. NIV 26 They mounted up to the heavens and went down to the depths; in their peril their courage melted away. NCV 27 They stumbled and fell like people who were drunk. They did not know what to do. NIV 33 He turned rivers into a desert, flowing springs into thirsty ground, NCV 34 He made fertile land salty, because the people there did evil. NIV 34 and fruitful land into a salt waste, because of the wickedness of those who lived there. NCV 35 He changed the desert into pools of water and dry ground into springs of water. NIV 35 He turned the desert into pools of water and the parched ground into flowing springs; NCV 36 He had the hungry settle there so they could build a city in which to live. NIV 36 there he brought the hungry to live, and they founded a city where they could settle. NCV 37 They planted seeds in the fields and vineyards, and they had a good harvest. NIV 37 They sowed fields and planted vineyards that yielded a fruitful harvest; NCV 38 God blessed them, and they grew in number. Their cattle did not become fewer. NIV 38 he blessed them, and their numbers greatly increased, and he did not let their herds diminish. NCV 39 Because of disaster, troubles, and sadness, their families grew smaller and weaker. NIV 39 Then their numbers decreased, and they were humbled by oppression, calamity and sorrow; NCV 40 He showed he was displeased with their leaders and made them wander in a pathless desert. NIV 40 he who pours contempt on nobles made them wander in a trackless waste. NCV 41 But he lifted the poor out of their suffering and made their families grow like flocks of sheep. NIV 41 But he lifted the needy out of their affliction and increased their families like flocks. NCV 42 Good people see this and are happy, but the wicked say nothing. NIV 42 The upright see and rejoice, but all the wicked shut their mouths. NCV 43 Whoever is wise will remember these things and will think about the love of the Lord. A song. A psalm of David. NIV 43 Whoever is wise, let him heed these things and consider the great love of the LORD.
