Psalm 119

YLT 1 [Aleph.] O the happiness of those perfect in the way, They are walking in the law of Jehovah, NIV 1 Blessed are they whose ways are blameless, who walk according to the law of the LORD. YLT 2 O the happiness of those keeping His testimonies, With the whole heart they seek Him. NIV 2 Blessed are they who keep his statutes and seek him with all their heart. YLT 3 Yea, they have not done iniquity, In His ways they have walked. NIV 3 They do nothing wrong; they walk in his ways. YLT 4 Thou hast commanded us Thy precepts to keep diligently, NIV 4 You have laid down precepts that are to be fully obeyed. YLT 5 O that my ways were prepared to keep Thy statutes, NIV 5 Oh, that my ways were steadfast in obeying your decrees! YLT 6 Then I am not ashamed In my looking unto all Thy commands. NIV 6 Then I would not be put to shame when I consider all your commands. YLT 7 I confess Thee with uprightness of heart, In my learning the judgments of Thy righteousness. NIV 7 I will praise you with an upright heart as I learn your righteous laws. YLT 8 Thy statutes I keep, leave me not utterly! NIV 8 I will obey your decrees; do not utterly forsake me. YLT 9 [Beth.] With what doth a young man purify his path? To observe -- according to Thy word. NIV 9 How can a young man keep his way pure? By living according to your word. YLT 10 With all my heart I have sought Thee, Let me not err from Thy commands. NIV 10 I seek you with all my heart; do not let me stray from your commands. YLT 11 In my heart I have hid Thy saying, That I sin not before Thee. NIV 11 I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you. YLT 12 Blessed [art] Thou, O Jehovah, teach me Thy statutes. NIV 12 Praise be to you, O LORD; teach me your decrees. YLT 13 With my lips I have recounted All the judgments of Thy mouth. NIV 13 With my lips I recount all the laws that come from your mouth. YLT 14 In the way of Thy testimonies I have joyed, As over all wealth. NIV 14 I rejoice in following your statutes as one rejoices in great riches. YLT 15 In Thy precepts I meditate, And I behold attentively Thy paths. NIV 15 I meditate on your precepts and consider your ways. YLT 16 In Thy statutes I delight myself, I do not forget Thy word. NIV 16 I delight in your decrees; I will not neglect your word. YLT 17 [Gimel.] Confer benefits on Thy servant, I live, and I keep Thy word. NIV 17 Do good to your servant, and I will live; I will obey your word. YLT 18 Uncover mine eyes, and I behold wonders out of Thy law. NIV 18 Open my eyes that I may see wonderful things in your law. YLT 19 A sojourner I [am] on earth, Hide not from me Thy commands. NIV 19 I am a stranger on earth; do not hide your commands from me. YLT 20 Broken hath my soul for desire Unto Thy judgments at all times. NIV 20 My soul is consumed with longing for your laws at all times. YLT 21 Thou hast rebuked the cursed proud, Who are erring from Thy commands. NIV 21 You rebuke the arrogant, who are cursed and who stray from your commands. YLT 22 Remove from me reproach and contempt, For Thy testimonies I have kept. NIV 22 Remove from me scorn and contempt, for I keep your statutes. YLT 23 Princes also sat -- against me they spoke, Thy servant doth meditate in Thy statutes, NIV 23 Though rulers sit together and slander me, your servant will meditate on your decrees. YLT 24 Thy testimonies also [are] my delight, The men of my counsel! NIV 24 Your statutes are my delight; they are my counselors. YLT 25 [Daleth.] Cleaved to the dust hath my soul, Quicken me according to Thy word. NIV 25 I am laid low in the dust; preserve my life according to your word. YLT 26 My ways I have recounted, And Thou answerest me, teach me Thy statutes, NIV 26 I recounted my ways and you answered me; teach me your decrees. YLT 27 The way of Thy precepts cause me to understand, And I meditate in Thy wonders. NIV 27 Let me understand the teaching of your precepts; then I will meditate on your wonders. YLT 28 My soul hath dropped from affliction, Establish me according to Thy word. NIV 28 My soul is weary with sorrow; strengthen me according to your word. YLT 29 The way of falsehood turn aside from me And with Thy law favour me. NIV 29 Keep me from deceitful ways; be gracious to me through your law. YLT 30 The way of faithfulness I have chosen, Thy judgments I have compared, NIV 30 I have chosen the way of truth; I have set my heart on your laws. YLT 31 I have adhered to Thy testimonies, O Jehovah, put me not to shame. NIV 31 I hold fast to your statutes, O LORD; do not let me be put to shame. YLT 32 The way of Thy commands I run, For Thou dost enlarge my heart! NIV 32 I run in the path of your commands, for you have set my heart free. YLT 33 [He.] Show me, O Jehovah, the way of Thy statutes, And I keep it -- [to] the end. NIV 33 Teach me, O LORD, to follow your decrees; then I will keep them to the end. YLT 34 Cause me to understand, and I keep Thy law, And observe it with the whole heart. NIV 34 Give me understanding, and I will keep your law and obey it with all my heart. YLT 35 Cause me to tread in the path of Thy commands, For in it I have delighted. NIV 35 Direct me in the path of your commands, for there I find delight. YLT 36 Incline my heart unto Thy testimonies, And not unto dishonest gain. NIV 36 Turn my heart toward your statutes and not toward selfish gain. YLT 37 Remove mine eyes from seeing vanity, In Thy way quicken Thou me. NIV 37 Turn my eyes away from worthless things; preserve my life according to your word. YLT 38 Establish to Thy servant Thy saying, That [is] concerning Thy fear. NIV 38 Fulfill your promise to your servant, so that you may be feared. YLT 39 Remove my reproach that I have feared, For Thy judgments [are] good. NIV 39 Take away the disgrace I dread, for your laws are good. YLT 40 Lo, I have longed for Thy precepts, In Thy righteousness quicken Thou me, NIV 40 How I long for your precepts! Preserve my life in your righteousness. YLT 41 [Waw.] And meet me doth Thy kindness, O Jehovah, Thy salvation according to Thy saying. NIV 41 May your unfailing love come to me, O LORD, your salvation according to your promise; YLT 42 And I answer him who is reproaching me a word, For I have trusted in Thy word. NIV 42 then I will answer the one who taunts me, for I trust in your word. YLT 43 And Thou takest not utterly away From my mouth the word of truth, Because for Thy judgment I have hoped. NIV 43 Do not snatch the word of truth from my mouth, for I have put my hope in your laws. YLT 44 And I keep Thy law continually, To the age and for ever. NIV 44 I will always obey your law, for ever and ever. YLT 45 And I walk habitually in a broad place, For Thy precepts I have sought. NIV 45 I will walk about in freedom, for I have sought out your precepts. YLT 46 And I speak of Thy testimonies before kings, And I am not ashamed. NIV 46 I will speak of your statutes before kings and will not be put to shame, YLT 47 And I delight myself in Thy commands, That I have loved, NIV 47 for I delight in your commands because I love them. YLT 48 And I lift up my hands unto Thy commands, That I have loved, And I do meditate on Thy statutes! NIV 48 I lift up my hands to your commands, which I love, and I meditate on your decrees. YLT 49 [Zain.] Remember the word to Thy servant, On which Thou hast caused me to hope. NIV 49 Remember your word to your servant, for you have given me hope. YLT 50 This [is] my comfort in mine affliction, That Thy saying hath quickened me. NIV 50 My comfort in my suffering is this: Your promise preserves my life. YLT 51 The proud have utterly scorned me, From Thy law I have not turned aside. NIV 51 The arrogant mock me without restraint, but I do not turn from your law. YLT 52 I remembered Thy judgments of old, O Jehovah, And I comfort myself. NIV 52 I remember your ancient laws, O LORD, and I find comfort in them. YLT 53 Horror hath seized me, Because of the wicked forsaking Thy law. NIV 53 Indignation grips me because of the wicked, who have forsaken your law. YLT 54 Songs have been to me Thy statutes, In the house of my sojournings. NIV 54 Your decrees are the theme of my song wherever I lodge. YLT 55 I have remembered in the night Thy name, O Jehovah, And I do keep Thy law. NIV 55 In the night I remember your name, O LORD, and I will keep your law. YLT 56 This hath been to me, That Thy precepts I have kept! NIV 56 This has been my practice: I obey your precepts. YLT 57 [Cheth.] My portion [is] Jehovah; I have said -- to keep Thy words, NIV 57 You are my portion, O LORD; I have promised to obey your words. YLT 58 I appeased Thy face with the whole heart, Favour me according to Thy saying. NIV 58 I have sought your face with all my heart; be gracious to me according to your promise. YLT 59 I have reckoned my ways, And turn back my feet unto Thy testimonies. NIV 59 I have considered my ways and have turned my steps to your statutes. YLT 60 I have made haste, And delayed not, to keep Thy commands. NIV 60 I will hasten and not delay to obey your commands. YLT 61 Cords of the wicked have surrounded me, Thy law I have not forgotten. NIV 61 Though the wicked bind me with ropes, I will not forget your law. YLT 62 At midnight I rise to give thanks to Thee, For the judgments of Thy righteousness. NIV 62 At midnight I rise to give you thanks for your righteous laws. YLT 63 A companion I [am] to all who fear Thee, And to those keeping Thy precepts. NIV 63 I am a friend to all who fear you, to all who follow your precepts. YLT 64 Of Thy kindness, O Jehovah, the earth is full, Thy statutes teach Thou me! NIV 64 The earth is filled with your love, O LORD; teach me your decrees. YLT 65 [Teth.] Good Thou didst with Thy servant, O Jehovah, According to Thy word. NIV 65 Do good to your servant according to your word, O LORD. YLT 66 The goodness of reason and knowledge teach me, For in Thy commands I have believed. NIV 66 Teach me knowledge and good judgment, for I believe in your commands. YLT 67 Before I am afflicted, I -- I am erring, And now Thy saying I have kept. NIV 67 Before I was afflicted I went astray, but now I obey your word. YLT 68 Good Thou [art], and doing good, Teach me Thy statutes. NIV 68 You are good, and what you do is good; teach me your decrees. YLT 69 Forged against me falsehood have the proud, I with the whole heart keep Thy precepts. NIV 69 Though the arrogant have smeared me with lies, I keep your precepts with all my heart. YLT 70 Insensate as fat hath been their heart, I -- in Thy law I have delighted. NIV 70 Their hearts are callous and unfeeling, but I delight in your law. YLT 71 Good for me that I have been afflicted, That I might learn Thy statutes. NIV 71 It was good for me to be afflicted so that I might learn your decrees. YLT 72 Better to me [is] the law of Thy mouth Than thousands of gold and silver! NIV 72 The law from your mouth is more precious to me than thousands of pieces of silver and gold. YLT 73 [Yod.] Thy hands made me and establish me, Cause me to understand, and I learn Thy commands. NIV 73 Your hands made me and formed me; give me understanding to learn your commands. YLT 74 Those fearing Thee see me and rejoice, Because for Thy word I have hoped. NIV 74 May those who fear you rejoice when they see me, for I have put my hope in your word. YLT 75 I have known, O Jehovah, That righteous [are] Thy judgments, And [in] faithfulness Thou hast afflicted me. NIV 75 I know, O LORD, that your laws are righteous, and in faithfulness you have afflicted me. YLT 76 Let, I pray Thee, Thy kindness be to comfort me, According to Thy saying to Thy servant. NIV 76 May your unfailing love be my comfort, according to your promise to your servant. YLT 77 Meet me do Thy mercies, and I live, For Thy law [is] my delight. NIV 77 Let your compassion come to me that I may live, for your law is my delight. YLT 78 Ashamed are the proud, For [with] falsehood they dealt perversely with me. I meditate in Thy precepts. NIV 78 May the arrogant be put to shame for wronging me without cause; but I will meditate on your precepts. YLT 79 Those fearing Thee turn back to me, And those knowing Thy testimonies. NIV 79 May those who fear you turn to me, those who understand your statutes. YLT 80 My heart is perfect in Thy statutes, So that I am not ashamed. NIV 80 May my heart be blameless toward your decrees, that I may not be put to shame. YLT 81 [Kaph.] Consumed for Thy salvation hath been my soul, For Thy word I have hoped. NIV 81 My soul faints with longing for your salvation, but I have put my hope in your word. YLT 82 Consumed have been mine eyes for Thy word, Saying, `When doth it comfort me?' NIV 82 My eyes fail, looking for your promise; I say, "When will you comfort me?" YLT 83 For I have been as a bottle in smoke, Thy statutes I have not forgotten. NIV 83 Though I am like a wineskin in the smoke, I do not forget your decrees. YLT 84 How many [are] the days of Thy servant? When dost Thou execute Against my pursuers judgment? NIV 84 How long must your servant wait? When will you punish my persecutors? YLT 85 The proud have digged for me pits, That [are] not according to Thy law. NIV 85 The arrogant dig pitfalls for me, contrary to your law. YLT 86 All Thy commands [are] faithfulness, [With] falsehood they have pursued me, Help Thou me. NIV 86 All your commands are trustworthy; help me, for men persecute me without cause. YLT 87 Almost consumed me on earth have they, And I -- I have not forsaken Thy precepts. NIV 87 They almost wiped me from the earth, but I have not forsaken your precepts. YLT 88 According to Thy kindness quicken Thou me, And I keep the testimony of Thy mouth! NIV 88 Preserve my life according to your love, and I will obey the statutes of your mouth. YLT 89 [Lamed.] To the age, O Jehovah, Thy word is set up in the heavens. NIV 89 Your word, O LORD, is eternal; it stands firm in the heavens. YLT 90 To all generations Thy faithfulness, Thou didst establish earth, and it standeth. NIV 90 Your faithfulness continues through all generations; you established the earth, and it endures. YLT 91 According to Thine ordinances They have stood this day, for the whole [are] Thy servants. NIV 91 Your laws endure to this day, for all things serve you. YLT 92 Unless Thy law [were] my delights, Then had I perished in mine affliction. NIV 92 If your law had not been my delight, I would have perished in my affliction. YLT 93 To the age I forget not Thy precepts, For by them Thou hast quickened me. NIV 93 I will never forget your precepts, for by them you have preserved my life. YLT 94 I [am] Thine, save Thou me, For Thy precepts I have sought. NIV 94 Save me, for I am yours; I have sought out your precepts. YLT 95 Thy wicked waited for me to destroy me, Thy testimonies I understand. NIV 95 The wicked are waiting to destroy me, but I will ponder your statutes. YLT 96 Of all perfection I have seen an end, Broad [is] Thy command -- exceedingly! NIV 96 To all perfection I see a limit; but your commands are boundless. YLT 97 [Mem.] O how I have loved Thy law! All the day it [is] my meditation. NIV 97 Oh, how I love your law! I meditate on it all day long. YLT 98 Than mine enemies Thy command maketh me wiser, For it [is] before me to the age. NIV 98 Your commands make me wiser than my enemies, for they are ever with me. YLT 99 Above all my teachers I have acted wisely. For Thy testimonies [are] my meditation. NIV 99 I have more insight than all my teachers, for I meditate on your statutes. YLT 100 Above elders I understand more, For Thy precepts I have kept. NIV 100 I have more understanding than the elders, for I obey your precepts. YLT 101 From every evil path I restrained my feet, So that I keep Thy word. NIV 101 I have kept my feet from every evil path so that I might obey your word. YLT 102 From Thy judgments I turned not aside, For Thou -- Thou hast directed me. NIV 102 I have not departed from your laws, for you yourself have taught me. YLT 103 How sweet to my palate hath been Thy saying, Above honey to my mouth. NIV 103 How sweet are your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth! YLT 104 From Thy precepts I have understanding, Therefore I have hated every false path! NIV 104 I gain understanding from your precepts; therefore I hate every wrong path. YLT 105 [Nun.] A lamp to my foot [is] Thy word, And a light to my path. NIV 105 Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path. YLT 106 I have sworn, and I confirm [it], To keep the judgments of Thy righteousness. NIV 106 I have taken an oath and confirmed it, that I will follow your righteous laws. NIV 118 You reject all who stray from your decrees, for their deceitfulness is in vain. YLT 119 Dross! Thou hast caused to cease All the wicked of the earth; Therefore I have loved Thy testimonies. NIV 119 All the wicked of the earth you discard like dross; therefore I love your statutes. YLT 120 Trembled from Thy fear hath my flesh, And from Thy judgments I have been afraid! NIV 120 My flesh trembles in fear of you; I stand in awe of your laws. YLT 121 [Ain.] I have done judgment and righteousness, Leave me not to mine oppressors. NIV 121 I have done what is righteous and just; do not leave me to my oppressors. YLT 122 Make sure Thy servant for good, Let not the proud oppress me. NIV 122 Ensure your servant's well-being; let not the arrogant oppress me. YLT 123 Mine eyes have been consumed for Thy salvation. And for the saying of Thy righteousness. NIV 123 My eyes fail, looking for your salvation, looking for your righteous promise. YLT 124 Do with Thy servant according to Thy kindness. And Thy statutes teach Thou me. NIV 124 Deal with your servant according to your love and teach me your decrees. YLT 125 Thy servant [am] I -- cause me to understand, And I know Thy testimonies. NIV 125 I am your servant; give me discernment that I may understand your statutes. YLT 126 Time for Jehovah to work! they have made void Thy law. NIV 126 It is time for you to act, O LORD; your law is being broken. YLT 127 Therefore I have loved Thy commands Above gold -- even fine gold. NIV 127 Because I love your commands more than gold, more than pure gold, YLT 128 Therefore all my appointments I have declared wholly right, Every path of falsehood I have hated! NIV 128 and because I consider all your precepts right, I hate every wrong path. YLT 129 [Pe.] Wonderful [are] Thy testimonies, Therefore hath my soul kept them. NIV 129 Your statutes are wonderful; therefore I obey them. YLT 130 The opening of Thy words enlighteneth, Instructing the simple. NIV 130 The unfolding of your words gives light; it gives understanding to the simple. YLT 131 My mouth I have opened, yea, I pant, For, for Thy commands I have longed. NIV 131 I open my mouth and pant, longing for your commands. YLT 132 Look unto me, and favour me, As customary to those loving Thy name. NIV 132 Turn to me and have mercy on me, as you always do to those who love your name. YLT 133 My steps establish by Thy saying, And any iniquity doth not rule over me. NIV 133 Direct my footsteps according to your word; let no sin rule over me. YLT 134 Ransom me from the oppression of man, And I observe Thy precepts, NIV 134 Redeem me from the oppression of men, that I may obey your precepts. YLT 135 Thy face cause to shine on Thy servant, And teach me Thy statutes. NIV 135 Make your face shine upon your servant and teach me your decrees. YLT 136 Rivulets of waters have come down mine eyes, Because they have not kept Thy law! NIV 136 Streams of tears flow from my eyes, for your law is not obeyed. YLT 137 [Tzade.] Righteous [art] Thou, O Jehovah, And upright [are] Thy judgments. NIV 137 Righteous are you, O LORD, and your laws are right. YLT 138 Thou hast appointed Thy testimonies, Righteous and exceeding faithful, NIV 138 The statutes you have laid down are righteous; they are fully trustworthy. YLT 139 Cut me off hath my zeal, For mine adversaries forgot Thy words. NIV 139 My zeal wears me out, for my enemies ignore your words. YLT 140 Tried [is] thy saying exceedingly, And Thy servant hath loved it. NIV 140 Your promises have been thoroughly tested, and your servant loves them. YLT 141 Small I [am], and despised, Thy precepts I have not forgotten. NIV 141 Though I am lowly and despised, I do not forget your precepts. YLT 142 Thy righteousness [is] righteousness to the age, And Thy law [is] truth. NIV 142 Your righteousness is everlasting and your law is true. YLT 143 Adversity and distress have found me, Thy commands [are] my delights. NIV 143 Trouble and distress have come upon me, but your commands are my delight. YLT 144 The righteousness of Thy testimonies [is] to Cause me to understand, and I live! NIV 144 Your statutes are forever right; give me understanding that I may live. YLT 145 [Koph.] I have called with the whole heart, Answer me, O Jehovah, Thy statutes I keep, NIV 145 I call with all my heart; answer me, O LORD, and I will obey your decrees. YLT 146 I have called Thee, save Thou me, And I do keep Thy testimonies. NIV 146 I call out to you; save me and I will keep your statutes. YLT 147 I have gone forward in the dawn, and I cry, For Thy word I have hoped. NIV 147 I rise before dawn and cry for help; I have put my hope in your word. YLT 148 Mine eyes have gone before the watches, To meditate in Thy saying. NIV 148 My eyes stay open through the watches of the night, that I may meditate on your promises. YLT 149 My voice hear, according to Thy kindness, Jehovah, according to Thy judgment quicken me. NIV 149 Hear my voice in accordance with your love; preserve my life, O LORD, according to your laws. YLT 150 Near have been my wicked pursuers, From Thy law they have been far off. NIV 150 Those who devise wicked schemes are near, but they are far from your law. YLT 151 Near [art] Thou, O Jehovah, And all Thy commands [are] truth. NIV 151 Yet you are near, O LORD, and all your commands are true. YLT 152 Of old I have known Thy testimonies, That to the age Thou hast founded them! NIV 152 Long ago I learned from your statutes that you established them to last forever. YLT 153 [Resh.] See my affliction, and deliver Thou me, For Thy law I have not forgotten. NIV 153 Look upon my suffering and deliver me, for I have not forgotten your law. YLT 154 Plead my plea, and redeem me, According to Thy saying quicken me. NIV 154 Defend my cause and redeem me; preserve my life according to your promise. YLT 155 Far from the wicked [is] salvation, For Thy statutes they have not sought. NIV 155 Salvation is far from the wicked, for they do not seek out your decrees. YLT 156 Thy mercies [are] many, O Jehovah, According to Thy judgments quicken me. NIV 156 Your compassion is great, O LORD; preserve my life according to your laws. YLT 157 Many [are] my pursuers, and adversaries, From Thy testimonies I have not turned aside. NIV 157 Many are the foes who persecute me, but I have not turned from your statutes. YLT 158 I have seen treacherous ones, And grieve myself, Because Thy saying they have not kept. NIV 158 I look on the faithless with loathing, for they do not obey your word. YLT 159 See, for thy precepts I have loved, Jehovah, According to Thy kindness quicken me. NIV 159 See how I love your precepts; preserve my life, O LORD, according to your love. YLT 160 The sum of Thy word [is] truth, And to the age [is] every judgment of Thy righteousness! NIV 160 All your words are true; all your righteous laws are eternal. YLT 161 [Shin.] Princes have pursued me without cause, And because of Thy words was my heart afraid. NIV 161 Rulers persecute me without cause, but my heart trembles at your word. YLT 162 I do rejoice concerning Thy saying, As one finding abundant spoil. NIV 162 I rejoice in your promise like one who finds great spoil. YLT 163 Falsehood I have hated, yea I abominate [it], Thy law I have loved. NIV 163 I hate and abhor falsehood but I love your law. YLT 164 Seven [times] in a day I have praised Thee, Because of the judgments of Thy righteousness. NIV 164 Seven times a day I praise you for your righteous laws. YLT 172 My tongue doth sing of Thy saying, For all Thy commands [are] righteous. NIV 172 May my tongue sing of your word, for all your commands are righteous. YLT 173 Thy hand is for a help to me, For Thy commands I have chosen. NIV 173 May your hand be ready to help me, for I have chosen your precepts. YLT 174 I have longed for Thy salvation, O Jehovah, And Thy law [is] my delight. NIV 174 I long for your salvation, O LORD, and your law is my delight. YLT 175 My soul liveth, and it doth praise Thee, And Thy judgments do help me. NIV 175 Let me live that I may praise you, and may your laws sustain me.
