Psalm 132

NLT 1 A song for the ascent to Jerusalem. LORD, remember David and all that he suffered. NIV 1 O LORD, remember David and all the hardships he endured. NLT 2 He took an oath before the LORD. He vowed to the Mighty One of Israel, NIV 2 He swore an oath to the LORD and made a vow to the Mighty One of Jacob: NLT 3 "I will not go home; I will not let myself rest. NIV 3 "I will not enter my house or go to my bed-- NLT 4 I will not let my eyes sleep nor close my eyelids in slumber NIV 4 I will allow no sleep to my eyes, no slumber to my eyelids, NLT 5 until I find a place to build a house for the LORD, a sanctuary for the Mighty One of Israel." NIV 5 till I find a place for the LORD, a dwelling for the Mighty One of Jacob." NLT 6 We heard that the Ark was in Ephrathah; then we found it in the distant countryside of Jaar. NIV 6 We heard it in Ephrathah, we came upon it in the fields of Jaar: NLT 7 Let us go to the dwelling place of the LORD; let us bow low before him. NIV 7 "Let us go to his dwelling place; let us worship at his footstool-- NLT 8 Arise, O LORD, and enter your sanctuary, along with the Ark, the symbol of your power. NIV 8 arise, O LORD, and come to your resting place, you and the ark of your might. NLT 9 Your priests will be agents of salvation; may your loyal servants sing for joy. NIV 9 May your priests be clothed with righteousness; may your saints sing for joy." NLT 10 For the sake of your servant David, do not reject the king you chose for your people. NIV 10 For the sake of David your servant, do not reject your anointed one. NLT 11 The LORD swore to David a promise he will never take back: "I will place one of your descendants on your throne. NIV 11 The LORD swore an oath to David, a sure oath that he will not revoke: "One of your own descendants I will place on your throne-- NLT 12 If your descendants obey the terms of my covenant and follow the decrees that I teach them, then your royal line will never end." NIV 12 if your sons keep my covenant and the statutes I teach them, then their sons will sit on your throne for ever and ever." NLT 13 For the LORD has chosen Jerusalem; he has desired it as his home. NIV 13 For the LORD has chosen Zion, he has desired it for his dwelling: NLT 14 "This is my home where I will live forever," he said. "I will live here, for this is the place I desired. NIV 14 "This is my resting place for ever and ever; here I will sit enthroned, for I have desired it-- NLT 15 I will make this city prosperous and satisfy its poor with food. NIV 15 I will bless her with abundant provisions; her poor will I satisfy with food. NLT 16 I will make its priests the agents of salvation; its godly people will sing for joy. NIV 16 I will clothe her priests with salvation, and her saints will ever sing for joy. NLT 17 Here I will increase the power of David; my anointed one will be a light for my people. NIV 17 "Here I will make a horn grow for David and set up a lamp for my anointed one. NLT 18 I will clothe his enemies with shame, but he will be a glorious king." NIV 18 I will clothe his enemies with shame, but the crown on his head will be resplendent."
