Psalm 137

HNV 1 By the rivers of Bavel, there we sat down. Yes, we wept, when we remembered Tziyon. NIV 1 By the rivers of Babylon we sat and wept when we remembered Zion. HNV 2 On the willows in the midst of it, We hung up our harps. NIV 2 There on the poplars we hung our harps, HNV 3 For there, those who led us captive asked us for songs. Those who tormented us demanded songs of joy: "Sing us one of the songs of Tziyon!" NIV 3 for there our captors asked us for songs, our tormentors demanded songs of joy; they said, "Sing us one of the songs of Zion!" HNV 4 How can we sing the LORD's song in a foreign land? NIV 4 How can we sing the songs of the LORD while in a foreign land? HNV 5 If I forget you, Yerushalayim, Let my right hand forget its skill. NIV 5 If I forget you, O Jerusalem, may my right hand forget [its skill]. HNV 6 Let my tongue stick to the roof of my mouth, If I don't remember you; If I don't prefer Yerushalayim above my chief joy. NIV 6 May my tongue cling to the roof of my mouth if I do not remember you, if I do not consider Jerusalem my highest joy. HNV 7 Remember, LORD, against the children of Edom, The day of Yerushalayim; Who said, "Raze it! Raze it even to its foundation!" NIV 7 Remember, O LORD, what the Edomites did on the day Jerusalem fell. "Tear it down," they cried, "tear it down to its foundations!" HNV 8 Daughter of Bavel, doomed to destruction, He will be happy who rewards you, As you have served us. NIV 8 O Daughter of Babylon, doomed to destruction, happy is he who repays you for what you have done to us-- HNV 9 Happy shall he be, Who takes and dashes your little ones against the rock. NIV 9 he who seizes your infants and dashes them against the rocks.
