Psalm 138

NLT 1 A psalm of David. I give you thanks, O LORD, with all my heart; I will sing your praises before the gods. NIV 1 I will praise you, O LORD, with all my heart; before the "gods" I will sing your praise. NLT 2 I bow before your holy Temple as I worship. I will give thanks to your name for your unfailing love and faithfulness, because your promises are backed by all the honor of your name. NIV 2 I will bow down toward your holy temple and will praise your name for your love and your faithfulness, for you have exalted above all things your name and your word. NLT 3 When I pray, you answer me; you encourage me by giving me the strength I need. NIV 3 When I called, you answered me; you made me bold and stouthearted. NLT 4 Every king in all the earth will give you thanks, O LORD, for all of them will hear your words. NIV 4 May all the kings of the earth praise you, O LORD, when they hear the words of your mouth. NLT 5 Yes, they will sing about the LORD's ways, for the glory of the LORD is very great. NIV 5 May they sing of the ways of the LORD, for the glory of the LORD is great. NLT 6 Though the LORD is great, he cares for the humble, but he keeps his distance from the proud. NIV 6 Though the LORD is on high, he looks upon the lowly, but the proud he knows from afar. NLT 7 Though I am surrounded by troubles, you will preserve me against the anger of my enemies. You will clench your fist against my angry enemies! Your power will save me. NIV 7 Though I walk in the midst of trouble, you preserve my life; you stretch out your hand against the anger of my foes, with your right hand you save me. NLT 8 The LORD will work out his plans for my life -- for your faithful love, O LORD, endures forever. Don't abandon me, for you made me. NIV 8 The LORD will fulfill [his purpose] for me; your love, O LORD, endures forever-- do not abandon the works of your hands.
