Psalm 139

RHE 1 (138-1) <Unto the end, a psalm of David.> Lord, thou hast proved me, and known me: NIV 1 O LORD, you have searched me and you know me. RHE 2 (138-2) Thou hast known my sitting down, and my rising up. NIV 2 You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar. RHE 3 (138-3) Thou hast understood my thoughts afar off: my path and my line thou hast searched out. NIV 3 You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways. RHE 4 (138-4) And thou hast foreseen all my ways: for there is no speech in my tongue. NIV 4 Before a word is on my tongue you know it completely, O LORD. RHE 5 (138-5) Behold, O Lord, thou hast known all things, the last and those of old: thou hast formed me, and hast laid thy hand upon me. NIV 5 You hem me in--behind and before; you have laid your hand upon me. RHE 6 (138-6) Thy knowledge is become wonderful to me: it is high, and I cannot reach to it. NIV 6 Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too lofty for me to attain. RHE 7 (138-7) Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy face? NIV 7 Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? RHE 8 (138-8) If I ascend into heaven, thou art there: if I descend into hell, thou art present. NIV 8 If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there. RHE 9 (138-9) If I take my wings early in the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea: NIV 9 If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, RHE 10 (138-10) Even there also shall thy hand lead me: and thy right hand shall hold me. NIV 10 even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast. RHE 11 (138-11) And I said: Perhaps darkness shall cover me: and night shall be my light in my pleasures. NIV 11 If I say, "Surely the darkness will hide me and the light become night around me," RHE 12 (138-12) But darkness shall not be dark to thee, and night shall be light all the day: the darkness thereof, and the light thereof are alike to thee. NIV 12 even the darkness will not be dark to you; the night will shine like the day, for darkness is as light to you. RHE 13 (138-13) For thou hast possessed my reins: thou hast protected me from my mother’s womb. NIV 13 For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb. RHE 14 (138-14) I will praise thee, for thou art fearfully magnified: wonderful are thy works, and my soul knoweth right well. NIV 14 I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. RHE 15 (138-15) My bone is not hidden from thee, which thou hast made in secret: and my substance in the lower parts of the earth. NIV 15 My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place. When I was woven together in the depths of the earth, RHE 16 (138-16) Thy eyes did see my imperfect being, and in thy book all shall be written: days shall be formed, and no one in them. NIV 16 your eyes saw my unformed body. All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be. RHE 17 (138-17) But to me thy friends, O God, are made exceedingly honourable: their principality is exceedingly strengthened. NIV 17 How precious to me are your thoughts, O God! How vast is the sum of them! RHE 18 (138-18) I will number them, and they shall be multiplied above the sand, I rose up and am still with thee. NIV 18 Were I to count them, they would outnumber the grains of sand. When I awake, I am still with you. RHE 19 (138-19) If thou wilt kill the wicked, O God: ye men of blood, depart from me: NIV 19 If only you would slay the wicked, O God! Away from me, you bloodthirsty men! RHE 20 (138-20) Because you say in thought: They shall receive thy cities in vain. NIV 20 They speak of you with evil intent; your adversaries misuse your name. RHE 21 (138-21) Have I not hated them, O Lord, that hated thee: and pined away because of thy enemies? NIV 21 Do I not hate those who hate you, O LORD, and abhor those who rise up against you? RHE 22 (138-22) I have hated them with a perfect hatred: and they are become enemies to me. NIV 22 I have nothing but hatred for them; I count them my enemies. RHE 23 (138-23) Prove me, O God, and know my heart: examine me, and know my paths. NIV 23 Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. RHE 24 (138-24) And see if there be in me the way of iniquity: and lead me in the eternal way. NIV 24 See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.
