Psalm 14

BBE 1 <To the chief music-maker. Of David.> The foolish man has said in his heart, God will not do anything. They are unclean, they have done evil works; there is not one who does good. NIV 1 The fool says in his heart, "There is no God." They are corrupt, their deeds are vile; there is no one who does good. BBE 2 The Lord was looking down from heaven on the children of men, to see if there were any who had wisdom, searching after God. NIV 2 The LORD looks down from heaven on the sons of men to see if there are any who understand, any who seek God. BBE 3 They have all gone out of the way together; they are unclean, there is not one who does good, no, not one. NIV 3 All have turned aside, they have together become corrupt; there is no one who does good, not even one. BBE 4 Have all the workers of evil no knowledge? they take my people for food as they would take bread; they make no prayer to the Lord. NIV 4 Will evildoers never learn-- those who devour my people as men eat bread and who do not call on the LORD? BBE 5 Then were they in great fear: for God is in the generation of the upright. NIV 5 There they are, overwhelmed with dread, for God is present in the company of the righteous. BBE 6 You have put to shame the thoughts of the poor, but the Lord is his support. NIV 6 You evildoers frustrate the plans of the poor, but the LORD is their refuge. BBE 7 May the salvation of Israel come out of Zion! when the fate of his people is changed by the Lord, Jacob will have joy and Israel will be glad. NIV 7 Oh, that salvation for Israel would come out of Zion! When the LORD restores the fortunes of his people, let Jacob rejoice and Israel be glad!
