YLT 1 To the Overseer. -- A Psalm of David. Deliver me, O Jehovah, from an evil man, From one of violence Thou keepest me. NIV 1 Rescue me, O LORD, from evil men; protect me from men of violence, YLT 2 Who have devised evils in the heart, All the day they assemble [for] wars. NIV 2 who devise evil plans in their hearts and stir up war every day. YLT 3 They sharpened their tongue as a serpent, Poison of an adder [is] under their lips. Selah. NIV 3 They make their tongues as sharp as a serpent's; the poison of vipers is on their lips. "Selah" YLT 4 Preserve me, Jehovah, from the hands of the wicked, From one of violence Thou keepest me, Who have devised to overthrow my steps. NIV 4 Keep me, O LORD, from the hands of the wicked; protect me from men of violence who plan to trip my feet. YLT 5 The proud hid a snare for me -- and cords, They spread a net by the side of the path, Snares they have set for me. Selah. NIV 5 Proud men have hidden a snare for me; they have spread out the cords of their net and have set traps for me along my path. "Selah" YLT 6 I have said to Jehovah, `My God [art] Thou, Hear, Jehovah, the voice of my supplications.' NIV 6 O LORD, I say to you, "You are my God." Hear, O LORD, my cry for mercy. YLT 7 O Jehovah, my Lord, strength of my salvation, Thou hast covered my head in the day of armour. NIV 7 O Sovereign LORD, my strong deliverer, who shields my head in the day of battle-- YLT 8 Grant not, O Jehovah, the desires of the wicked, His wicked device bring not forth, They are high. Selah. NIV 8 do not grant the wicked their desires, O LORD; do not let their plans succeed, or they will become proud. "Selah" YLT 9 The chief of my surrounders, The perverseness of their lips covereth them. NIV 9 Let the heads of those who surround me be covered with the trouble their lips have caused. YLT 10 They cause to fall on themselves burning coals, Into fire He doth cast them, Into deep pits -- they arise not. NIV 10 Let burning coals fall upon them; may they be thrown into the fire, into miry pits, never to rise. YLT 11 A talkative man is not established in the earth, One of violence -- evil hunteth to overflowing. NIV 11 Let slanderers not be established in the land; may disaster hunt down men of violence. YLT 12 I have known that Jehovah doth execute The judgment of the afflicted, The judgment of the needy. NIV 12 I know that the LORD secures justice for the poor and upholds the cause of the needy. YLT 13 Only -- the righteous give thanks to Thy name, The upright do dwell with Thy presence! NIV 13 Surely the righteous will praise your name and the upright will live before you.
