Psalm 144

CJB 1 By David: Blessed be ADONAI, my rock, who trains my hands for war and my fingers for battle. NIV 1 Praise be to the LORD my Rock, who trains my hands for war, my fingers for battle. CJB 2 He shows me grace; and he is my fortress, my stronghold, in whom I find shelter, my shield, in whom I take refuge, who subdues my people under me. NIV 2 He is my loving God and my fortress, my stronghold and my deliverer, my shield, in whom I take refuge, who subdues peoples under me. CJB 3 ADONAI, what are mere mortals, that you notice them at all; humans, that you think about them? NIV 3 O LORD, what is man that you care for him, the son of man that you think of him? CJB 4 Man is like a puff of wind, his days like a fleeting shadow. NIV 4 Man is like a breath; his days are like a fleeting shadow. CJB 5 ADONAI, lower the heavens, and come down; touch the mountains, make them pour out smoke. NIV 5 Part your heavens, O LORD, and come down; touch the mountains, so that they smoke. CJB 6 Shoot out lightning, and scatter them; send out your arrows, and rout them. NIV 6 Send forth lightning and scatter [the enemies]; shoot your arrows and rout them. CJB 7 Reach out your hands from on high; rescue me; save me out of deep water, out of the power of strangers, NIV 7 Reach down your hand from on high; deliver me and rescue me from the mighty waters, from the hands of foreigners CJB 8 whose mouths speak worthless words and whose right hands swear false oaths. NIV 8 whose mouths are full of lies, whose right hands are deceitful. CJB 9 God, I will sing a new song to you; sing praises to you with a ten-stringed harp. NIV 9 I will sing a new song to you, O God; on the ten-stringed lyre I will make music to you, CJB 10 You give kings their victories; you save your servant David from the cruel sword. NIV 10 to the One who gives victory to kings, who delivers his servant David from the deadly sword. CJB 11 Rescue me, save me from the power of strangers, whose mouths speak worthless words and whose right hands swear false oaths. NIV 11 Deliver me and rescue me from the hands of foreigners whose mouths are full of lies, whose right hands are deceitful. CJB 12 Our sons in their youth will be like full-grown saplings, our daughters will be like sculptured pillars fit for the corner of a palace. NIV 12 Then our sons in their youth will be like well-nurtured plants, and our daughters will be like pillars carved to adorn a palace. CJB 13 Our barns are full with crops of every kind; the sheep in our fields number thousands, tens of thousands. NIV 13 Our barns will be filled with every kind of provision. Our sheep will increase by thousands, by tens of thousands in our fields; CJB 14 our oxen are well-fed, our city walls have no breach, our people are not taken captive, and there are no cries of protest in our cities' open places. NIV 14 our oxen will draw heavy loads. There will be no breaching of walls, no going into captivity, no cry of distress in our streets. CJB 15 How happy the people who live in such conditions! How happy the people whose God is ADONAI! NIV 15 Blessed are the people of whom this is true; blessed are the people whose God is the LORD.
