Psalm 144

NLT 1 A psalm of David. Bless the LORD, who is my rock. He gives me strength for war and skill for battle. NIV 1 Praise be to the LORD my Rock, who trains my hands for war, my fingers for battle. NLT 2 He is my loving ally and my fortress, my tower of safety, my deliverer. He stands before me as a shield, and I take refuge in him. He subdues the nations under me. NIV 2 He is my loving God and my fortress, my stronghold and my deliverer, my shield, in whom I take refuge, who subdues peoples under me. NLT 3 O LORD, what are mortals that you should notice us, mere humans that you should care for us? NIV 3 O LORD, what is man that you care for him, the son of man that you think of him? NLT 4 For we are like a breath of air; our days are like a passing shadow. NIV 4 Man is like a breath; his days are like a fleeting shadow. NLT 5 Bend down the heavens, LORD, and come down. Touch the mountains so they billow smoke. NIV 5 Part your heavens, O LORD, and come down; touch the mountains, so that they smoke. NLT 6 Release your lightning bolts and scatter your enemies! Release your arrows and confuse them! NIV 6 Send forth lightning and scatter [the enemies]; shoot your arrows and rout them. NLT 7 Reach down from heaven and rescue me; deliver me from deep waters, from the power of my enemies. NIV 7 Reach down your hand from on high; deliver me and rescue me from the mighty waters, from the hands of foreigners NLT 8 Their mouths are full of lies; they swear to tell the truth, but they lie. NIV 8 whose mouths are full of lies, whose right hands are deceitful. NLT 9 I will sing a new song to you, O God! I will sing your praises with a ten-stringed harp. NIV 9 I will sing a new song to you, O God; on the ten-stringed lyre I will make music to you, NLT 10 For you grant victory to kings! You are the one who rescued your servant David. NIV 10 to the One who gives victory to kings, who delivers his servant David from the deadly sword. NLT 11 Save me from the fatal sword! Rescue me from the power of my enemies. Their mouths are full of lies; they swear to tell the truth, but they lie. NIV 11 Deliver me and rescue me from the hands of foreigners whose mouths are full of lies, whose right hands are deceitful. NLT 12 May our sons flourish in their youth like well-nurtured plants. May our daughters be like graceful pillars, carved to beautify a palace. NIV 12 Then our sons in their youth will be like well-nurtured plants, and our daughters will be like pillars carved to adorn a palace. NLT 13 May our farms be filled with crops of every kind. May the flocks in our fields multiply by the thousands, even tens of thousands, NIV 13 Our barns will be filled with every kind of provision. Our sheep will increase by thousands, by tens of thousands in our fields; NLT 14 and may our oxen be loaded down with produce. May there be no breached walls, no forced exile, no cries of distress in our squares. NIV 14 our oxen will draw heavy loads. There will be no breaching of walls, no going into captivity, no cry of distress in our streets. NLT 15 Yes, happy are those who have it like this! Happy indeed are those whose God is the LORD. NIV 15 Blessed are the people of whom this is true; blessed are the people whose God is the LORD.
