Psalm 18

NAS 1 "I love You, O LORD , my strength." NIV 1 I love you, O LORD, my strength. NAS 2 The LORD is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer, My God, my rock, in whom I take refuge; My shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold. NIV 2 The LORD is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge. He is my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold. NAS 3 I call upon the LORD , who is worthy to be praised, And I am saved from my enemies. NIV 3 I call to the LORD, who is worthy of praise, and I am saved from my enemies. NAS 4 The cords of death encompassed me, And the torrents of ungodliness terrified me. NIV 4 The cords of death entangled me; the torrents of destruction overwhelmed me. NAS 6 In my distress I called upon the LORD , And cried to my God for help; He heard my voice out of His temple, And my cry for help before Him came into His ears. NAS 8 Smoke went up out of His nostrils, And fire from His mouth devoured; Coals were kindled by it. NIV 8 Smoke rose from his nostrils; consuming fire came from his mouth, burning coals blazed out of it. NAS 9 He bowed the heavens also, and came down With thick darkness under His feet. NIV 9 He parted the heavens and came down; dark clouds were under his feet. NAS 10 He rode upon a cherub and flew; And He sped upon the wings of the wind. NIV 10 He mounted the cherubim and flew; he soared on the wings of the wind. NAS 11 He made darkness His hiding place, His canopy around Him, Darkness of waters, thick clouds of the skies. NIV 11 He made darkness his covering, his canopy around him-- the dark rain clouds of the sky. NAS 12 From the brightness before Him passed His thick clouds, Hailstones and coals of fire. NIV 12 Out of the brightness of his presence clouds advanced, with hailstones and bolts of lightning. NAS 13 The LORD also thundered in the heavens, And the Most High uttered His voice, Hailstones and coals of fire. NIV 13 The LORD thundered from heaven; the voice of the Most High resounded. NAS 14 He sent out His arrows, and scattered them, And lightning flashes in abundance, and routed them. NIV 14 He shot his arrows and scattered [the enemies], great bolts of lightning and routed them. NAS 15 Then the channels of water appeared, And the foundations of the world were laid bare At Your rebuke, O LORD , At the blast of the breath of Your nostrils. NIV 15 The valleys of the sea were exposed and the foundations of the earth laid bare at your rebuke, O LORD, at the blast of breath from your nostrils. NAS 16 He sent from on high, He took me; He drew me out of many waters. NIV 16 He reached down from on high and took hold of me; he drew me out of deep waters. NAS 17 He delivered me from my strong enemy, And from those who hated me, for they were too mighty for me. NIV 17 He rescued me from my powerful enemy, from my foes, who were too strong for me. NAS 18 They confronted me in the day of my calamity, But the LORD was my stay. NIV 18 They confronted me in the day of my disaster, but the LORD was my support. NAS 19 He brought me forth also into a broad place; He rescued me, because He delighted in me. NIV 19 He brought me out into a spacious place; he rescued me because he delighted in me. NAS 20 The LORD has rewarded me according to my righteousness; According to the cleanness of my hands He has recompensed me. NIV 20 The LORD has dealt with me according to my righteousness; according to the cleanness of my hands he has rewarded me. NAS 21 For I have kept the ways of the LORD , And have not wickedly departed from my God. NIV 21 For I have kept the ways of the LORD; I have not done evil by turning from my God. NAS 22 For all His ordinances were before me, And I did not put away His statutes from me. NIV 22 All his laws are before me; I have not turned away from his decrees. NAS 23 I was also blameless with Him, And I kept myself from my iniquity. NIV 23 I have been blameless before him and have kept myself from sin. NAS 24 Therefore the LORD has recompensed me according to my righteousness, According to the cleanness of my hands in His eyes. NIV 24 The LORD has rewarded me according to my righteousness, according to the cleanness of my hands in his sight. NAS 25 With the kind You show Yourself kind; With the blameless You show Yourself blameless; NIV 25 To the faithful you show yourself faithful, to the blameless you show yourself blameless, NAS 26 With the pure You show Yourself pure, And with the crooked You show Yourself astute. NIV 26 to the pure you show yourself pure, but to the crooked you show yourself shrewd. NAS 27 For You save an afflicted people, But haughty eyes You abase. NIV 27 You save the humble but bring low those whose eyes are haughty. NAS 28 For You light my lamp; The LORD my God illumines my darkness. NIV 28 You, O LORD, keep my lamp burning; my God turns my darkness into light. NAS 29 For by You I can run upon a troop; And by my God I can leap over a wall. NIV 29 With your help I can advance against a troop; with my God I can scale a wall. NAS 30 As for God, His way is blameless; The word of the LORD is tried; He is a shield to all who take refuge in Him. NIV 30 As for God, his way is perfect; the word of the LORD is flawless. He is a shield for all who take refuge in him. NAS 31 For who is God, but the LORD ? And who is a rock, except our God, NIV 31 For who is God besides the LORD? And who is the Rock except our God? NAS 32 The God who girds me with strength And makes my way blameless? NIV 32 It is God who arms me with strength and makes my way perfect. NAS 33 He makes my feet like hinds' feet, And sets me upon my high places. NIV 33 He makes my feet like the feet of a deer; he enables me to stand on the heights. NAS 34 He trains my hands for battle, So that my arms can bend a bow of bronze. NIV 34 He trains my hands for battle; my arms can bend a bow of bronze. NAS 35 You have also given me the shield of Your salvation, And Your right hand upholds me; And Your gentleness makes me great. NIV 35 You give me your shield of victory, and your right hand sustains me; you stoop down to make me great. NAS 36 You enlarge my steps under me, And my feet have not slipped. NIV 36 You broaden the path beneath me, so that my ankles do not turn. NAS 37 I pursued my enemies and overtook them, And I did not turn back until they were consumed. NIV 37 I pursued my enemies and overtook them; I did not turn back till they were destroyed. NAS 38 I shattered them, so that they were not able to rise; They fell under my feet. NIV 38 I crushed them so that they could not rise; they fell beneath my feet. NAS 39 For You have girded me with strength for battle; You have subdued under me those who rose up against me. NIV 39 You armed me with strength for battle; you made my adversaries bow at my feet. NAS 40 You have also made my enemies turn their backs to me, And I destroyed those who hated me. NIV 40 You made my enemies turn their backs in flight, and I destroyed my foes. NAS 41 They cried for help, but there was none to save, Even to the LORD , but He did not answer them. NIV 41 They cried for help, but there was no one to save them-- to the LORD, but he did not answer. NAS 42 Then I beat them fine as the dust before the wind; I emptied them out as the mire of the streets. NIV 42 I beat them as fine as dust borne on the wind; I poured them out like mud in the streets. NAS 43 You have delivered me from the contentions of the people; You have placed me as head of the nations; A people whom I have not known serve me. NIV 43 You have delivered me from the attacks of the people; you have made me the head of nations; people I did not know are subject to me. NAS 44 As soon as they hear , they obey me; Foreigners submit to me. NIV 44 As soon as they hear me, they obey me; foreigners cringe before me. NAS 45 Foreigners fade away, And come trembling out of their fortresses. NIV 45 They all lose heart; they come trembling from their strongholds. NAS 46 The LORD lives, and blessed be my rock; And exalted be the God of my salvation, NIV 46 The LORD lives! Praise be to my Rock! Exalted be God my Savior! NAS 47 The God who executes vengeance for me, And subdues peoples under me. NIV 47 He is the God who avenges me, who subdues nations under me, NAS 48 He delivers me from my enemies; Surely You lift me above those who rise up against me; You rescue me from the violent man. NIV 48 who saves me from my enemies. You exalted me above my foes; from violent men you rescued me. NAS 49 Therefore I will give thanks to You among the nations, O LORD , And I will sing praises to Your name. NIV 49 Therefore I will praise you among the nations, O LORD; I will sing praises to your name. NAS 50 He gives great deliverance to His king, And shows lovingkindness to His anointed, To David and his descendants forever . NIV 50 He gives his king great victories; he shows unfailing kindness to his anointed, to David and his descendants forever.
