Psalm 18

NKJV 1 To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David the servant of the Lord, who spoke to the Lord the words of this song on the day that the Lord delivered him from the hand of all his enemies and from the hand of Saul. And he said: I will love You, O Lord, my strength. NIV 1 I love you, O LORD, my strength. NKJV 2 The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer; My God, my strength, in whom I will trust; My shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold. NIV 2 The LORD is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge. He is my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold. NKJV 3 I will call upon the Lord, who is worthy to be praised; So shall I be saved from my enemies. NIV 3 I call to the LORD, who is worthy of praise, and I am saved from my enemies. NKJV 4 The pangs of death surrounded me, And the floods of ungodliness made me afraid. NIV 4 The cords of death entangled me; the torrents of destruction overwhelmed me. NKJV 5 The sorrows of Sheol surrounded me; The snares of death confronted me. NIV 5 The cords of the grave coiled around me; the snares of death confronted me. NKJV 6 In my distress I called upon the Lord, And cried out to my God; He heard my voice from His temple, And my cry came before Him, even to His ears. NIV 6 In my distress I called to the LORD; I cried to my God for help. From his temple he heard my voice; my cry came before him, into his ears. NKJV 7 Then the earth shook and trembled; The foundations of the hills also quaked and were shaken, Because He was angry. NIV 7 The earth trembled and quaked, and the foundations of the mountains shook; they trembled because he was angry. NKJV 8 Smoke went up from His nostrils, And devouring fire from His mouth; Coals were kindled by it. NIV 8 Smoke rose from his nostrils; consuming fire came from his mouth, burning coals blazed out of it. NKJV 9 He bowed the heavens also, and came down With darkness under His feet. NIV 9 He parted the heavens and came down; dark clouds were under his feet. NKJV 10 And He rode upon a cherub, and flew; He flew upon the wings of the wind. NIV 10 He mounted the cherubim and flew; he soared on the wings of the wind. NKJV 11 He made darkness His secret place; His canopy around Him was dark waters And thick clouds of the skies. NIV 11 He made darkness his covering, his canopy around him-- the dark rain clouds of the sky. NKJV 12 From the brightness before Him, His thick clouds passed with hailstones and coals of fire. NIV 12 Out of the brightness of his presence clouds advanced, with hailstones and bolts of lightning. NKJV 13 The Lord thundered from heaven, And the Most High uttered His voice, Hailstones and coals of fire. NIV 13 The LORD thundered from heaven; the voice of the Most High resounded. NKJV 14 He sent out His arrows and scattered the foe, Lightnings in abundance, and He vanquished them. NIV 14 He shot his arrows and scattered [the enemies], great bolts of lightning and routed them. NKJV 15 Then the channels of the sea were seen, The foundations of the world were uncovered At Your rebuke, O Lord, At the blast of the breath of Your nostrils. NIV 15 The valleys of the sea were exposed and the foundations of the earth laid bare at your rebuke, O LORD, at the blast of breath from your nostrils. NKJV 16 He sent from above, He took me; He drew me out of many waters. NIV 16 He reached down from on high and took hold of me; he drew me out of deep waters. NKJV 17 He delivered me from my strong enemy, From those who hated me, For they were too strong for me. NIV 17 He rescued me from my powerful enemy, from my foes, who were too strong for me. NKJV 18 They confronted me in the day of my calamity, But the Lord was my support. NIV 18 They confronted me in the day of my disaster, but the LORD was my support. NKJV 19 He also brought me out into a broad place; He delivered me because He delighted in me. NIV 19 He brought me out into a spacious place; he rescued me because he delighted in me. NKJV 20 The Lord rewarded me according to my righteousness; According to the cleanness of my hands He has recompensed me. NIV 20 The LORD has dealt with me according to my righteousness; according to the cleanness of my hands he has rewarded me. NKJV 21 For I have kept the ways of the Lord, And have not wickedly departed from my God. NIV 21 For I have kept the ways of the LORD; I have not done evil by turning from my God. NKJV 22 For all His judgments were before me, And I did not put away His statutes from me. NIV 22 All his laws are before me; I have not turned away from his decrees. NKJV 23 I was also blameless before Him, And I kept myself from my iniquity. NIV 23 I have been blameless before him and have kept myself from sin. NKJV 24 Therefore the Lord has recompensed me according to my righteousness, According to the cleanness of my hands in His sight. NIV 24 The LORD has rewarded me according to my righteousness, according to the cleanness of my hands in his sight. NKJV 25 With the merciful You will show Yourself merciful; With a blameless man You will show Yourself blameless; NIV 25 To the faithful you show yourself faithful, to the blameless you show yourself blameless, NKJV 26 With the pure You will show Yourself pure; And with the devious You will show Yourself shrewd. NIV 26 to the pure you show yourself pure, but to the crooked you show yourself shrewd. NKJV 27 For You will save the humble people, But will bring down haughty looks. NIV 27 You save the humble but bring low those whose eyes are haughty. NKJV 28 For You will light my lamp; The Lord my God will enlighten my darkness. NIV 28 You, O LORD, keep my lamp burning; my God turns my darkness into light. NKJV 29 For by You I can run against a troop, By my God I can leap over a wall. NIV 29 With your help I can advance against a troop; with my God I can scale a wall. NKJV 30 As for God, His way is perfect; The word of the Lord is proven; He is a shield to all who trust in Him. NIV 30 As for God, his way is perfect; the word of the LORD is flawless. He is a shield for all who take refuge in him. NKJV 31 For who is God, except the Lord? And who is a rock, except our God? NIV 31 For who is God besides the LORD? And who is the Rock except our God? NKJV 32 It is God who arms me with strength, And makes my way perfect. NIV 32 It is God who arms me with strength and makes my way perfect. NKJV 33 He makes my feet like the feet of deer, And sets me on my high places. NIV 33 He makes my feet like the feet of a deer; he enables me to stand on the heights. NKJV 34 He teaches my hands to make war, So that my arms can bend a bow of bronze. NIV 34 He trains my hands for battle; my arms can bend a bow of bronze. NKJV 35 You have also given me the shield of Your salvation; Your right hand has held me up, Your gentleness has made me great. NIV 35 You give me your shield of victory, and your right hand sustains me; you stoop down to make me great. NKJV 36 You enlarged my path under me, So my feet did not slip. NIV 36 You broaden the path beneath me, so that my ankles do not turn. NKJV 37 I have pursued my enemies and overtaken them; Neither did I turn back again till they were destroyed. NIV 37 I pursued my enemies and overtook them; I did not turn back till they were destroyed. NKJV 38 I have wounded them, So that they could not rise; They have fallen under my feet. NIV 38 I crushed them so that they could not rise; they fell beneath my feet. NKJV 39 For You have armed me with strength for the battle; You have subdued under me those who rose up against me. NIV 39 You armed me with strength for battle; you made my adversaries bow at my feet. NKJV 40 You have also given me the necks of my enemies, So that I destroyed those who hated me. NIV 40 You made my enemies turn their backs in flight, and I destroyed my foes. NKJV 41 They cried out, but there was none to save; Even to the Lord, but He did not answer them. NIV 41 They cried for help, but there was no one to save them-- to the LORD, but he did not answer. NKJV 42 Then I beat them as fine as the dust before the wind; I cast them out like dirt in the streets. NIV 42 I beat them as fine as dust borne on the wind; I poured them out like mud in the streets. NKJV 43 You have delivered me from the strivings of the people; You have made me the head of the nations; A people I have not known shall serve me. NIV 43 You have delivered me from the attacks of the people; you have made me the head of nations; people I did not know are subject to me. NKJV 44 As soon as they hear of me they obey me; The foreigners submit to me. NIV 44 As soon as they hear me, they obey me; foreigners cringe before me. NKJV 45 The foreigners fade away, And come frightened from their hideouts. NIV 45 They all lose heart; they come trembling from their strongholds. NKJV 46 The Lord lives! Blessed be my Rock! Let the God of my salvation be exalted. NIV 46 The LORD lives! Praise be to my Rock! Exalted be God my Savior! NKJV 47 It is God who avenges me, And subdues the peoples under me; NIV 47 He is the God who avenges me, who subdues nations under me, NKJV 48 He delivers me from my enemies. You also lift me up above those who rise against me; You have delivered me from the violent man. NIV 48 who saves me from my enemies. You exalted me above my foes; from violent men you rescued me. NKJV 49 Therefore I will give thanks to You, O Lord, among the Gentiles, And sing praises to Your name. NIV 49 Therefore I will praise you among the nations, O LORD; I will sing praises to your name. NKJV 50 Great deliverance He gives to His king, And shows mercy to His anointed, To David and his descendants forevermore. NIV 50 He gives his king great victories; he shows unfailing kindness to his anointed, to David and his descendants forever.
