Psalm 2

RHE 1 Why have the Gentiles raged, and the people devised vain things? NIV 1 Why do the nations conspire and the peoples plot in vain? RHE 2 The kings of the earth stood up, and the princes met together, against the Lord, and against his Christ. NIV 2 The kings of the earth take their stand and the rulers gather together against the LORD and against his Anointed One. RHE 3 Let us break their bonds asunder: and let us cast away their yoke from us. NIV 3 "Let us break their chains," they say, "and throw off their fetters." RHE 4 He that dwelleth in heaven shall laugh at them: and the Lord shall deride them. NIV 4 The One enthroned in heaven laughs; the Lord scoffs at them. RHE 5 Then shall he speak to them in his anger, and trouble them in his rage. NIV 5 Then he rebukes them in his anger and terrifies them in his wrath, saying, RHE 6 But I am appointed king by him over Sion, his holy mountain, preaching his commandment. NIV 6 "I have installed my King on Zion, my holy hill." RHE 7 The Lord hath said to me: Thou art my son, this day have I begotten thee. NIV 7 I will proclaim the decree of the LORD: He said to me, "You are my Son; today I have become your Father. RHE 8 Ask of me, and I will give thee the Gentiles for thy inheritance, and the utmost parts of the earth for thy possession. NIV 8 Ask of me, and I will make the nations your inheritance, the ends of the earth your possession. RHE 9 Thou shalt rule them with a rod of iron, and shalt break them in pieces like a potter’s vessel. NIV 9 You will rule them with an iron scepter; you will dash them to pieces like pottery." RHE 10 And now, O ye kings, understand: receive instruction, you that judge the earth. NIV 10 Therefore, you kings, be wise; be warned, you rulers of the earth. RHE 11 Serve ye the Lord with fear: and rejoice unto him with trembling. NIV 11 Serve the LORD with fear and rejoice with trembling. RHE 12 Embrace discipline, lest at any time the Lord be angry, and you perish from the just way. (2-13) When his wrath shall be kindled in a short time, blessed are all they that trust in him. NIV 12 Kiss the Son, lest he be angry and you be destroyed in your way, for his wrath can flare up in a moment. Blessed are all who take refuge in him.
