Psalm 22

GNTA 1 My God, my God, why have you abandoned me? I have cried desperately for help, but still it does not come. NIV 1 My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? Why are you so far from saving me, so far from the words of my groaning? GNTA 2 During the day I call to you, my God, but you do not answer; I call at night, but get no rest. NIV 2 O my God, I cry out by day, but you do not answer, by night, and am not silent. GNTA 3 But you are enthroned as the Holy One, the one whom Israel praises. NIV 3 Yet you are enthroned as the Holy One; you are the praise of Israel. GNTA 4 Our ancestors put their trust in you; they trusted you, and you saved them. NIV 4 In you our fathers put their trust; they trusted and you delivered them. GNTA 5 They called to you and escaped from danger; they trusted you and were not disappointed. NIV 5 They cried to you and were saved; in you they trusted and were not disappointed. GNTA 6 But I am no longer a human being; I am a worm, despised and scorned by everyone! NIV 6 But I am a worm and not a man, scorned by men and despised by the people. GNTA 7 All who see me make fun of me; they stick out their tongues and shake their heads. NIV 7 All who see me mock me; they hurl insults, shaking their heads: GNTA 8 "You relied on the Lord," they say. "Why doesn't he save you? If the Lord likes you, why doesn't he help you?" NIV 8 "He trusts in the LORD; let the LORD rescue him. Let him deliver him, since he delights in him." GNTA 9 It was you who brought me safely through birth, and when I was a baby, you kept me safe. NIV 9 Yet you brought me out of the womb; you made me trust in you even at my mother's breast. GNTA 10 I have relied on you since the day I was born, and you have always been my God. NIV 10 From birth I was cast upon you; from my mother's womb you have been my God. GNTA 11 Do not stay away from me! Trouble is near, and there is no one to help. NIV 11 Do not be far from me, for trouble is near and there is no one to help. GNTA 12 Many enemies surround me like bulls; they are all around me, like fierce bulls from the land of Bashan. NIV 12 Many bulls surround me; strong bulls of Bashan encircle me. GNTA 13 They open their mouths like lions, roaring and tearing at me. NIV 13 Roaring lions tearing their prey open their mouths wide against me. GNTA 14 My strength is gone, gone like water spilled on the ground. All my bones are out of joint; my heart is like melted wax. NIV 14 I am poured out like water, and all my bones are out of joint. My heart has turned to wax; it has melted away within me. GNTA 15 My throat is as dry as dust, and my tongue sticks to the roof of my mouth. You have left me for dead in the dust. NIV 15 My strength is dried up like a potsherd, and my tongue sticks to the roof of my mouth; you lay me in the dust of death. GNTA 16 An evil gang is around me; like a pack of dogs they close in on me; they tear at my hands and feet. NIV 16 Dogs have surrounded me; a band of evil men has encircled me, they have pierced my hands and my feet. GNTA 17 All my bones can be seen. My enemies look at me and stare. NIV 17 I can count all my bones; people stare and gloat over me. GNTA 18 They gamble for my clothes and divide them among themselves. NIV 18 They divide my garments among them and cast lots for my clothing. GNTA 19 O Lord, don't stay away from me! Come quickly to my rescue! NIV 19 But you, O LORD, be not far off; O my Strength, come quickly to help me. GNTA 20 Save me from the sword; save my life from these dogs. NIV 20 Deliver my life from the sword, my precious life from the power of the dogs. GNTA 21 Rescue me from these lions; I am helpless before these wild bulls. NIV 21 Rescue me from the mouth of the lions; save me from the horns of the wild oxen. GNTA 22 I will tell my people what you have done; I will praise you in their assembly: NIV 22 I will declare your name to my brothers; in the congregation I will praise you. GNTA 23 "Praise him, you servants of the Lord! Honor him, you descendants of Jacob! Worship him, you people of Israel! NIV 23 You who fear the LORD, praise him! All you descendants of Jacob, honor him! Revere him, all you descendants of Israel! GNTA 24 He does not neglect the poor or ignore their suffering; he does not turn away from them, but answers when they call for help." NIV 24 For he has not despised or disdained the suffering of the afflicted one; he has not hidden his face from him but has listened to his cry for help. GNTA 25 In the full assembly I will praise you for what you have done; in the presence of those who worship you I will offer the sacrifices I promised. NIV 25 From you comes the theme of my praise in the great assembly; before those who fear you will I fulfill my vows. GNTA 26 The poor will eat as much as they want; those who come to the Lord will praise him. May they prosper forever! NIV 26 The poor will eat and be satisfied; they who seek the LORD will praise him-- may your hearts live forever! GNTA 27 All nations will remember the Lord. From every part of the world they will turn to him; all races will worship him. NIV 27 All the ends of the earth will remember and turn to the LORD, and all the families of the nations will bow down before him, GNTA 28 The Lord is king, and he rules the nations. NIV 28 for dominion belongs to the LORD and he rules over the nations. GNTA 29 All proud people will bow down to him; all mortals will bow down before him. NIV 29 All the rich of the earth will feast and worship; all who go down to the dust will kneel before him-- those who cannot keep themselves alive. GNTA 30 Future generations will serve him; they will speak of the Lord to the coming generation. NIV 30 Posterity will serve him; future generations will be told about the Lord. GNTA 31 People not yet born will be told: "The Lord saved his people." NIV 31 They will proclaim his righteousness to a people yet unborn-- for he has done it.
