Psalm 28

RSV 1 A Psalm of David. To thee, O LORD, I call; my rock, be not deaf to me, lest, if thou be silent to me, I become like those who go down to the Pit. NIV 1 To you I call, O LORD my Rock; do not turn a deaf ear to me. For if you remain silent, I will be like those who have gone down to the pit. RSV 2 Hear the voice of my supplication, as I cry to thee for help, as I lift up my hands toward thy most holy sanctuary. NIV 2 Hear my cry for mercy as I call to you for help, as I lift up my hands toward your Most Holy Place. RSV 3 Take me not off with the wicked, with those who are workers of evil, who speak peace with their neighbors, while mischief is in their hearts. NIV 3 Do not drag me away with the wicked, with those who do evil, who speak cordially with their neighbors but harbor malice in their hearts. RSV 4 Requite them according to their work, and according to the evil of their deeds; requite them according to the work of their hands; render them their due reward. NIV 4 Repay them for their deeds and for their evil work; repay them for what their hands have done and bring back upon them what they deserve. RSV 5 Because they do not regard the works of the LORD, or the work of his hands, he will break them down and build them up no more. NIV 5 Since they show no regard for the works of the LORD and what his hands have done, he will tear them down and never build them up again. RSV 6 Blessed be the LORD! for he has heard the voice of my supplications. NIV 6 Praise be to the LORD, for he has heard my cry for mercy. RSV 7 The LORD is my strength and my shield; in him my heart trusts; so I am helped, and my heart exults, and with my song I give thanks to him. NIV 7 The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and I am helped. My heart leaps for joy and I will give thanks to him in song. RSV 8 The LORD is the strength of his people, he is the saving refuge of his anointed. NIV 8 The LORD is the strength of his people, a fortress of salvation for his anointed one. RSV 9 O save thy people, and bless thy heritage; be thou their shepherd, and carry them for ever. NIV 9 Save your people and bless your inheritance; be their shepherd and carry them forever.
