Psalm 31

CEB 1 I take refuge in you, LORD. Please never let me be put to shame. Rescue me by your righteousness! NIV 1 In you, O LORD, I have taken refuge; let me never be put to shame; deliver me in your righteousness. CEB 2 Listen closely to me! Deliver me quickly; be a rock that protects me; be a strong fortress that saves me! NIV 2 Turn your ear to me, come quickly to my rescue; be my rock of refuge, a strong fortress to save me. CEB 3 You are definitely my rock and my fortress. Guide me and lead me for the sake of your good name! NIV 3 Since you are my rock and my fortress, for the sake of your name lead and guide me. CEB 4 Get me out of this net that's been set for me because you are my protective fortress. NIV 4 Free me from the trap that is set for me, for you are my refuge. CEB 5 I entrust my spirit into your hands; you, LORD, God of faithfulness— you have saved me. NIV 5 Into your hands I commit my spirit; redeem me, O LORD, the God of truth. CEB 6 I hate those who embrace what is completely worthless. I myself trust the LORD. NIV 6 I hate those who cling to worthless idols; I trust in the LORD. CEB 7 I rejoice and celebrate in your faithful love because you saw my suffering— you were intimately acquainted with my deep distress. NIV 7 I will be glad and rejoice in your love, for you saw my affliction and knew the anguish of my soul. CEB 8 You didn't hand me over to the enemy, but set my feet in wide-open spaces. NIV 8 You have not handed me over to the enemy but have set my feet in a spacious place. CEB 9 Have mercy on me, LORD, because I'm depressed. My vision fails because of my grief, as do my spirit and my body. NIV 9 Be merciful to me, O LORD, for I am in distress; my eyes grow weak with sorrow, my soul and my body with grief. CEB 10 My life is consumed with sadness; my years are consumed with groaning. Strength fails me because of my suffering; my bones dry up. NIV 10 My life is consumed by anguish and my years by groaning; my strength fails because of my affliction, and my bones grow weak. CEB 11 I'm a joke to all my enemies, still worse to my neighbors. I scare my friends, and whoever sees me in the street runs away! NIV 11 Because of all my enemies, I am the utter contempt of my neighbors; I am a dread to my friends-- those who see me on the street flee from me. CEB 12 I am forgotten, like I'm dead, completely out of mind; I am like a piece of pottery, destroyed. NIV 12 I am forgotten by them as though I were dead; I have become like broken pottery. CEB 13 Yes, I've heard all the gossiping, terror all around; so many gang up together against me, they plan to take my life! NIV 13 For I hear the slander of many; there is terror on every side; they conspire against me and plot to take my life. CEB 14 But me? I trust you, LORD! I affirm, "You are my God." NIV 14 But I trust in you, O LORD; I say, "You are my God." CEB 15 My future is in your hands. Don't hand me over to my enemies, to all who are out to get me! NIV 15 My times are in your hands; deliver me from my enemies and from those who pursue me. CEB 16 Shine your face on your servant; save me by your faithful love! NIV 16 Let your face shine on your servant; save me in your unfailing love. CEB 17 LORD, don't let me be put to shame because I have cried out to you. Let the wicked be put to shame; let them be silenced in death's domain! NIV 17 Let me not be put to shame, O LORD, for I have cried out to you; but let the wicked be put to shame and lie silent in the grave. CEB 18 Let their lying lips be shut up whenever they speak arrogantly against the righteous with pride and contempt! NIV 18 Let their lying lips be silenced, for with pride and contempt they speak arrogantly against the righteous. CEB 19 How great is the goodness that you've reserved for those who honor you, that you commit to those who take refuge in you— in the sight of everyone! NIV 19 How great is your goodness, which you have stored up for those who fear you, which you bestow in the sight of men on those who take refuge in you. CEB 20 You hide them in the shelter of your wings, safe from human scheming. You conceal them in a shelter, safe from accusing tongues. NIV 20 In the shelter of your presence you hide them from the intrigues of men; in your dwelling you keep them safe from accusing tongues. CEB 21 Bless the LORD, because he has wondrously revealed his faithful love to me when I was like a city under siege! NIV 21 Praise be to the LORD, for he showed his wonderful love to me when I was in a besieged city. CEB 22 When I was panicked, I said, "I'm cut off from your eyes!" But you heard my request for mercy when I cried out to you for help. NIV 22 In my alarm I said, "I am cut off from your sight!" Yet you heard my cry for mercy when I called to you for help. CEB 23 All you who are faithful, love the LORD! The LORD protects those who are loyal, but he pays the proud back to the fullest degree. NIV 23 Love the LORD, all his saints! The LORD preserves the faithful, but the proud he pays back in full. CEB 24 All you who wait for the LORD, be strong and let your heart take courage. NIV 24 Be strong and take heart, all you who hope in the LORD.
