Psalm 31

GNT 1 I come to you, Lord, for protection; never let me be defeated. You are a righteous God; save me, I pray! NIV 1 In you, O LORD, I have taken refuge; let me never be put to shame; deliver me in your righteousness. GNT 2 Hear me! Save me now! Be my refuge to protect me; my defense to save me. NIV 2 Turn your ear to me, come quickly to my rescue; be my rock of refuge, a strong fortress to save me. GNT 3 You are my refuge and defense; guide me and lead me as you have promised. NIV 3 Since you are my rock and my fortress, for the sake of your name lead and guide me. GNT 4 Keep me safe from the trap that has been set for me; shelter me from danger. NIV 4 Free me from the trap that is set for me, for you are my refuge. GNT 5 I place myself in your care. You will save me, Lord; you are a faithful God. NIV 5 Into your hands I commit my spirit; redeem me, O LORD, the God of truth. GNT 6 You hate those who worship false gods, but I trust in you. NIV 6 I hate those who cling to worthless idols; I trust in the LORD. GNT 7 I will be glad and rejoice because of your constant love. You see my suffering; you know my trouble. NIV 7 I will be glad and rejoice in your love, for you saw my affliction and knew the anguish of my soul. GNT 8 You have not let my enemies capture me; you have given me freedom to go where I wish. NIV 8 You have not handed me over to the enemy but have set my feet in a spacious place. GNT 9 Be merciful to me, Lord, for I am in trouble; my eyes are tired from so much crying; I am completely worn out. NIV 9 Be merciful to me, O LORD, for I am in distress; my eyes grow weak with sorrow, my soul and my body with grief. GNT 10 I am exhausted by sorrow, and weeping has shortened my life. I am weak from all my troubles; even my bones are wasting away. NIV 10 My life is consumed by anguish and my years by groaning; my strength fails because of my affliction, and my bones grow weak. GNT 11 All my enemies, and especially my neighbors, treat me with contempt. Those who know me are afraid of me; when they see me in the street, they run away. NIV 11 Because of all my enemies, I am the utter contempt of my neighbors; I am a dread to my friends-- those who see me on the street flee from me. GNT 12 Everyone has forgotten me, as though I were dead; I am like something thrown away. NIV 12 I am forgotten by them as though I were dead; I have become like broken pottery. GNT 13 I hear many enemies whispering; terror is all around me. They are making plans against me, plotting to kill me. NIV 13 For I hear the slander of many; there is terror on every side; they conspire against me and plot to take my life. GNT 14 But my trust is in you, O Lord; you are my God. NIV 14 But I trust in you, O LORD; I say, "You are my God." GNT 15 I am always in your care; save me from my enemies, from those who persecute me. NIV 15 My times are in your hands; deliver me from my enemies and from those who pursue me. GNT 16 Look on your servant with kindness; save me in your constant love. NIV 16 Let your face shine on your servant; save me in your unfailing love. GNT 17 I call to you, Lord; don't let me be disgraced. May the wicked be disgraced; may they go silently down to the world of the dead. NIV 17 Let me not be put to shame, O LORD, for I have cried out to you; but let the wicked be put to shame and lie silent in the grave. GNT 18 Silence those liars - all the proud and arrogant who speak with contempt about the righteous. NIV 18 Let their lying lips be silenced, for with pride and contempt they speak arrogantly against the righteous. GNT 19 How wonderful are the good things you keep for those who honor you! Everyone knows how good you are, how securely you protect those who trust you. NIV 19 How great is your goodness, which you have stored up for those who fear you, which you bestow in the sight of men on those who take refuge in you. GNT 20 You hide them in the safety of your presence from the plots of others; in a safe shelter you hide them from the insults of their enemies. NIV 20 In the shelter of your presence you hide them from the intrigues of men; in your dwelling you keep them safe from accusing tongues. GNT 21 Praise the Lord! How wonderfully he showed his love for me when I was surrounded and attacked! NIV 21 Praise be to the LORD, for he showed his wonderful love to me when I was in a besieged city. GNT 22 I was afraid and thought that he had driven me out of his presence. But he heard my cry, when I called to him for help. NIV 22 In my alarm I said, "I am cut off from your sight!" Yet you heard my cry for mercy when I called to you for help. GNT 23 Love the Lord, all his faithful people. The Lord protects the faithful, but punishes the proud as they deserve. NIV 23 Love the LORD, all his saints! The LORD preserves the faithful, but the proud he pays back in full. GNT 24 Be strong, be courageous, all you that hope in the Lord. NIV 24 Be strong and take heart, all you who hope in the LORD.
