Psalm 31

TMB 1 <<To the chief musician: A Psalm of David.>> In Thee, O LORD, do I put my trust; let me never be ashamed; deliver me in Thy righteousness. NIV 1 In you, O LORD, I have taken refuge; let me never be put to shame; deliver me in your righteousness. TMB 2 Bow down Thine ear to me, deliver me speedily; be Thou my strong rock, a house of defense to save me. NIV 2 Turn your ear to me, come quickly to my rescue; be my rock of refuge, a strong fortress to save me. TMB 3 For Thou art my rock and my fortress; therefore for the sake of Thy name, lead me and guide me. NIV 3 Since you are my rock and my fortress, for the sake of your name lead and guide me. TMB 4 Pull me out of the net that they have laid privily for me, for Thou art my strength. NIV 4 Free me from the trap that is set for me, for you are my refuge. TMB 5 Into Thine hand I commit my spirit; Thou hast redeemed me, O LORD God of truth. NIV 5 Into your hands I commit my spirit; redeem me, O LORD, the God of truth. TMB 6 I have hated them that have regard for lying vanities; but I trust in the LORD. NIV 6 I hate those who cling to worthless idols; I trust in the LORD. TMB 7 I will be glad and rejoice in Thy mercy, for Thou hast considered my trouble. Thou hast known my soul in adversities, NIV 7 I will be glad and rejoice in your love, for you saw my affliction and knew the anguish of my soul. TMB 8 And hast not delivered me into the hands of the enemy; Thou hast set my feet in a large room. NIV 8 You have not handed me over to the enemy but have set my feet in a spacious place. TMB 9 Have mercy upon me, O LORD, for I am in trouble; mine eye is consumed with grief, yea, my soul and my belly. NIV 9 Be merciful to me, O LORD, for I am in distress; my eyes grow weak with sorrow, my soul and my body with grief. TMB 10 For my life is spent with grief, and my years with sighing; my strength faileth because of mine iniquity, and my bones are consumed. NIV 10 My life is consumed by anguish and my years by groaning; my strength fails because of my affliction, and my bones grow weak. TMB 11 I am a reproach among all mine enemies, but especially among my neighbors, and a fear to mine acquaintances; they that see me in the streets flee from me. NIV 11 Because of all my enemies, I am the utter contempt of my neighbors; I am a dread to my friends-- those who see me on the street flee from me. TMB 12 I am forgotten as a dead man, out of mind; I am like a broken vessel. NIV 12 I am forgotten by them as though I were dead; I have become like broken pottery. TMB 13 For I have heard the slander of many; fear was on every side; while they took counsel together against me, they schemed to take away my life. NIV 13 For I hear the slander of many; there is terror on every side; they conspire against me and plot to take my life. TMB 14 But I have trusted in Thee, O LORD; I said, "Thou art my God." NIV 14 But I trust in you, O LORD; I say, "You are my God." TMB 15 My times are in Thy hand; deliver me from the hand of mine enemies and from them that persecute me. NIV 15 My times are in your hands; deliver me from my enemies and from those who pursue me. TMB 16 Make Thy face to shine upon Thy servant; save me for Thy mercies' sake. NIV 16 Let your face shine on your servant; save me in your unfailing love. TMB 17 Let me not be ashamed, O LORD, for I have called upon Thee; let the wicked be ashamed, and let them be silent in the grave. NIV 17 Let me not be put to shame, O LORD, for I have cried out to you; but let the wicked be put to shame and lie silent in the grave. TMB 18 Let the lying lips be put to silence, which speak grievous things proudly and contemptuously against the righteous. NIV 18 Let their lying lips be silenced, for with pride and contempt they speak arrogantly against the righteous. TMB 19 O how great is Thy goodness which Thou hast laid up for them that fear Thee, which Thou hast wrought for them that trust in Thee before the sons of men! NIV 19 How great is your goodness, which you have stored up for those who fear you, which you bestow in the sight of men on those who take refuge in you. TMB 20 Thou shalt hide them in the safety of Thy presence from the pride of man; Thou shalt keep them secretly in a pavilion from the strife of tongues. NIV 20 In the shelter of your presence you hide them from the intrigues of men; in your dwelling you keep them safe from accusing tongues. TMB 21 Blessed be the LORD, for He hath shown me His marvelous kindness in a stronghold city! NIV 21 Praise be to the LORD, for he showed his wonderful love to me when I was in a besieged city. TMB 22 For I said in my haste, "I am cut off from before Thine eyes!" Nevertheless Thou heard the voice of my supplications when I cried unto Thee. NIV 22 In my alarm I said, "I am cut off from your sight!" Yet you heard my cry for mercy when I called to you for help. TMB 23 O love the LORD, all ye His saints! For the LORD preserveth the faithful, but plentifully rewardeth the proud doer. NIV 23 Love the LORD, all his saints! The LORD preserves the faithful, but the proud he pays back in full. TMB 24 Be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart, all ye that hope in the LORD. NIV 24 Be strong and take heart, all you who hope in the LORD.
