Psalm 33

ASV 1 Rejoice in Jehovah, O ye righteous: Praise is comely for the upright. NIV 1 Sing joyfully to the LORD, you righteous; it is fitting for the upright to praise him. ASV 2 Give thanks unto Jehovah with the harp: Sing praises unto him with the psaltery of ten strings. NIV 2 Praise the LORD with the harp; make music to him on the ten-stringed lyre. ASV 3 Sing unto him a new song; Play skilfully with a loud noise. NIV 3 Sing to him a new song; play skillfully, and shout for joy. ASV 4 For the word of Jehovah is right; And all his work is [done] in faithfulness. NIV 4 For the word of the LORD is right and true; he is faithful in all he does. ASV 5 He loveth righteousness and justice: The earth is full of the lovingkindness of Jehovah. NIV 5 The LORD loves righteousness and justice; the earth is full of his unfailing love. ASV 6 By the word of Jehovah were the heavens made, And all the host of them by the breath of his mouth. NIV 6 By the word of the LORD were the heavens made, their starry host by the breath of his mouth. ASV 7 He gathereth the waters of the sea together as a heap: He layeth up the deeps in store-houses. NIV 7 He gathers the waters of the sea into jars; he puts the deep into storehouses. ASV 8 Let all the earth fear Jehovah: Let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of him. NIV 8 Let all the earth fear the LORD; let all the people of the world revere him. ASV 9 For he spake, and it was done; He commanded, and it stood fast. NIV 9 For he spoke, and it came to be; he commanded, and it stood firm. ASV 10 Jehovah bringeth the counsel of the nations to nought; He maketh the thoughts of the peoples to be of no effect. NIV 10 The LORD foils the plans of the nations; he thwarts the purposes of the peoples. ASV 11 The counsel of Jehovah standeth fast for ever, The thoughts of his heart to all generations. NIV 11 But the plans of the LORD stand firm forever, the purposes of his heart through all generations. ASV 12 Blessed is the nation whose God is Jehovah, The people whom he hath chosen for his own inheritance. NIV 12 Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD, the people he chose for his inheritance. ASV 13 Jehovah looketh from heaven; He beholdeth all the sons of men; NIV 13 From heaven the LORD looks down and sees all mankind; ASV 14 From the place of his habitation he looketh forth Upon all the inhabitants of the earth, NIV 14 from his dwelling place he watches all who live on earth-- ASV 15 He that fashioneth the hearts of them all, That considereth all their works. NIV 15 he who forms the hearts of all, who considers everything they do. ASV 16 There is no king saved by the multitude of a host: A mighty man is not delivered by great strength. NIV 16 No king is saved by the size of his army; no warrior escapes by his great strength. ASV 17 A horse is a vain thing for safety; Neither doth he deliver any by his great power. NIV 17 A horse is a vain hope for deliverance; despite all its great strength it cannot save. ASV 18 Behold, the eye of Jehovah is upon them that fear him, Upon them that hope in his lovingkindness; NIV 18 But the eyes of the LORD are on those who fear him, on those whose hope is in his unfailing love, ASV 19 To deliver their soul from death, And to keep them alive in famine. NIV 19 to deliver them from death and keep them alive in famine. ASV 20 Our soul hath waited for Jehovah: He is our help and our shield. NIV 20 We wait in hope for the LORD; he is our help and our shield. ASV 21 For our heart shall rejoice in him, Because we have trusted in his holy name. NIV 21 In him our hearts rejoice, for we trust in his holy name. ASV 22 Let thy lovingkindness, O Jehovah, be upon us, According as we have hoped in thee. NIV 22 May your unfailing love rest upon us, O LORD, even as we put our hope in you.
