Psalm 33

DBY 1 Exult, ye righteous, in Jehovah: praise is comely for the upright. NIV 1 Sing joyfully to the LORD, you righteous; it is fitting for the upright to praise him. DBY 2 Give thanks unto Jehovah with the harp; sing psalms unto him with the ten-stringed lute. NIV 2 Praise the LORD with the harp; make music to him on the ten-stringed lyre. DBY 3 Sing unto him a new song; play skilfully with a loud sound. NIV 3 Sing to him a new song; play skillfully, and shout for joy. DBY 4 For the word of Jehovah is right, and all his work is in faithfulness. NIV 4 For the word of the LORD is right and true; he is faithful in all he does. DBY 5 He loveth righteousness and judgment: the earth is full of the loving-kindness of Jehovah. NIV 5 The LORD loves righteousness and justice; the earth is full of his unfailing love. DBY 6 By the word of Jehovah were the heavens made, and all the host of them by the breath of his mouth. NIV 6 By the word of the LORD were the heavens made, their starry host by the breath of his mouth. DBY 7 He gathereth the waters of the sea together as a heap; he layeth up the deeps in storehouses. NIV 7 He gathers the waters of the sea into jars; he puts the deep into storehouses. DBY 8 Let all the earth fear Jehovah; let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of him. NIV 8 Let all the earth fear the LORD; let all the people of the world revere him. DBY 9 For *he* spoke, and it was [done]; *he* commanded, and it stood fast. NIV 9 For he spoke, and it came to be; he commanded, and it stood firm. DBY 10 Jehovah frustrateth the counsel of the nations; he maketh the thoughts of the peoples of none effect. NIV 10 The LORD foils the plans of the nations; he thwarts the purposes of the peoples. DBY 11 The counsel of Jehovah standeth for ever, the thoughts of his heart from generation to generation. NIV 11 But the plans of the LORD stand firm forever, the purposes of his heart through all generations. DBY 12 Blessed is the nation whose God is Jehovah, the people that he hath chosen for his inheritance! NIV 12 Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD, the people he chose for his inheritance. DBY 13 Jehovah looketh from the heavens; he beholdeth all the sons of men: NIV 13 From heaven the LORD looks down and sees all mankind; DBY 14 From the place of his habitation he looketh forth upon all the inhabitants of the earth; NIV 14 from his dwelling place he watches all who live on earth-- DBY 15 He who fashioneth the hearts of them all, who considereth all their works. NIV 15 he who forms the hearts of all, who considers everything they do. DBY 16 The king is not saved by the multitude of [his] forces; a mighty man is not delivered by much strength. NIV 16 No king is saved by the size of his army; no warrior escapes by his great strength. DBY 17 The horse is a vain thing for safety; neither doth he deliver by his great power. NIV 17 A horse is a vain hope for deliverance; despite all its great strength it cannot save. DBY 18 Behold, the eye of Jehovah is upon them that fear him, upon them that hope in his loving-kindness, NIV 18 But the eyes of the LORD are on those who fear him, on those whose hope is in his unfailing love, DBY 19 To deliver their soul from death, and to keep them alive in famine. NIV 19 to deliver them from death and keep them alive in famine. DBY 20 Our soul waiteth for Jehovah: he is our help and our shield. NIV 20 We wait in hope for the LORD; he is our help and our shield. DBY 21 For in him shall our heart rejoice, because we have confided in his holy name. NIV 21 In him our hearts rejoice, for we trust in his holy name. DBY 22 Let thy loving-kindness, O Jehovah, be upon us, according as we have hoped in thee. NIV 22 May your unfailing love rest upon us, O LORD, even as we put our hope in you.
