Psalm 36

RSV 1 To the choirmaster. A Psalm of David, the servant of the LORD. Transgression speaks to the wicked deep in his heart; there is no fear of God before his eyes. NIV 1 An oracle is within my heart concerning the sinfulness of the wicked: There is no fear of God before his eyes. RSV 2 For he flatters himself in his own eyes that his iniquity cannot be found out and hated. NIV 2 For in his own eyes he flatters himself too much to detect or hate his sin. RSV 3 The words of his mouth are mischief and deceit; he has ceased to act wisely and do good. NIV 3 The words of his mouth are wicked and deceitful; he has ceased to be wise and to do good. RSV 4 He plots mischief while on his bed; he sets himself in a way that is not good; he spurns not evil. NIV 4 Even on his bed he plots evil; he commits himself to a sinful course and does not reject what is wrong. RSV 5 Thy steadfast love, O LORD, extends to the heavens, thy faithfulness to the clouds. NIV 5 Your love, O LORD, reaches to the heavens, your faithfulness to the skies. RSV 6 Thy righteousness is like the mountains of God, thy judgments are like the great deep; man and beast thou savest, O LORD. NIV 6 Your righteousness is like the mighty mountains, your justice like the great deep. O LORD, you preserve both man and beast. RSV 7 How precious is thy steadfast love, O God! The children of men take refuge in the shadow of thy wings. NIV 7 How priceless is your unfailing love! Both high and low among men find refuge in the shadow of your wings. RSV 8 They feast on the abundance of thy house, and thou givest them drink from the river of thy delights. NIV 8 They feast on the abundance of your house; you give them drink from your river of delights. RSV 9 For with thee is the fountain of life; in thy light do we see light. NIV 9 For with you is the fountain of life; in your light we see light. RSV 10 O continue thy steadfast love to those who know thee, and thy salvation to the upright of heart! NIV 10 Continue your love to those who know you, your righteousness to the upright in heart. RSV 11 Let not the foot of arrogance come upon me, nor the hand of the wicked drive me away. NIV 11 May the foot of the proud not come against me, nor the hand of the wicked drive me away. RSV 12 There the evildoers lie prostrate, they are thrust down, unable to rise. NIV 12 See how the evildoers lie fallen-- thrown down, not able to rise!
