Psalm 37

ASV 1 Fret not thyself because of evil-doers, Neither be thou envious against them that work unrighteousness. NIV 1 Do not fret because of evil men or be envious of those who do wrong; ASV 2 For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, And wither as the green herb. NIV 2 for like the grass they will soon wither, like green plants they will soon die away. ASV 3 Trust in Jehovah, and do good; Dwell in the land, and feed on [his] faithfulness. NIV 3 Trust in the LORD and do good; dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture. ASV 4 Delight thyself also in Jehovah; And he will give thee the desires of thy heart. NIV 4 Delight yourself in the LORD and he will give you the desires of your heart. ASV 5 Commit thy way unto Jehovah; Trust also in him, and he will bring it to pass. NIV 5 Commit your way to the LORD; trust in him and he will do this: ASV 6 And he will make thy righteousness to go forth as the light, And thy justice as the noon-day. NIV 6 He will make your righteousness shine like the dawn, the justice of your cause like the noonday sun. ASV 7 Rest in Jehovah, and wait patiently for him: Fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way, Because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass. NIV 7 Be still before the LORD and wait patiently for him; do not fret when men succeed in their ways, when they carry out their wicked schemes. ASV 8 Cease from anger, and forsake wrath: Fret not thyself, [it tendeth] only to evil-doing. NIV 8 Refrain from anger and turn from wrath; do not fret--it leads only to evil. ASV 9 For evil-doers shall be cut off; But those that wait for Jehovah, they shall inherit the land. NIV 9 For evil men will be cut off, but those who hope in the LORD will inherit the land. ASV 10 For yet a little while, and the wicked shall not be: Yea, thou shalt diligently consider his place, and he shall not be. NIV 10 A little while, and the wicked will be no more; though you look for them, they will not be found. ASV 11 But the meek shall inherit the land, And shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace. NIV 11 But the meek will inherit the land and enjoy great peace. ASV 12 The wicked plotteth against the just, And gnasheth upon him with his teeth. NIV 12 The wicked plot against the righteous and gnash their teeth at them; ASV 13 The Lord will laugh at him; For he seeth that his day is coming. NIV 13 but the Lord laughs at the wicked, for he knows their day is coming. ASV 14 The wicked have drawn out the sword, and have bent their bow, To cast down the poor and needy, To slay such as are upright in the way. NIV 14 The wicked draw the sword and bend the bow to bring down the poor and needy, to slay those whose ways are upright. ASV 15 Their sword shall enter into their own heart, And their bows shall be broken. NIV 15 But their swords will pierce their own hearts, and their bows will be broken. ASV 16 Better is a little that the righteous hath Than the abundance of many wicked. NIV 16 Better the little that the righteous have than the wealth of many wicked; ASV 17 For the arms of the wicked shall be broken; But Jehovah upholdeth the righteous. NIV 17 for the power of the wicked will be broken, but the LORD upholds the righteous. ASV 18 Jehovah knoweth the days of the perfect; And their inheritance shall be for ever. NIV 18 The days of the blameless are known to the LORD, and their inheritance will endure forever. ASV 19 They shall not be put to shame in the time of evil; And in the days of famine they shall be satisfied. NIV 19 In times of disaster they will not wither; in days of famine they will enjoy plenty. ASV 20 But the wicked shall perish, And the enemies of Jehovah shall be as the fat of lambs: They shall consume; In smoke shall they consume away. NIV 20 But the wicked will perish: The LORD's enemies will be like the beauty of the fields, they will vanish--vanish like smoke. ASV 21 The wicked borroweth, and payeth not again; But the righteous dealeth graciously, and giveth. NIV 21 The wicked borrow and do not repay, but the righteous give generously; ASV 22 For such as are blessed of him shall inherit the land; And they that are cursed of him shall be cut off. NIV 22 those the LORD blesses will inherit the land, but those he curses will be cut off. ASV 23 A man's goings are established of Jehovah; And he delighteth in his way. NIV 23 If the LORD delights in a man's way, he makes his steps firm; ASV 24 Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down; For Jehovah upholdeth him with his hand. NIV 24 though he stumble, he will not fall, for the LORD upholds him with his hand. ASV 25 I have been young, and now am old; Yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, Nor his seed begging bread. NIV 25 I was young and now I am old, yet I have never seen the righteous forsaken or their children begging bread. ASV 26 All the day long he dealeth graciously, and lendeth; And his seed is blessed. NIV 26 They are always generous and lend freely; their children will be blessed. ASV 27 Depart from evil, and do good; And dwell for evermore. NIV 27 Turn from evil and do good; then you will dwell in the land forever. ASV 28 For Jehovah loveth justice, And forsaketh not his saints; They are preserved for ever: But the seed of the wicked shall be cut off. NIV 28 For the LORD loves the just and will not forsake his faithful ones. They will be protected forever, but the offspring of the wicked will be cut off; ASV 29 The righteous shall inherit the land, And dwell therein for ever. NIV 29 the righteous will inherit the land and dwell in it forever. ASV 30 The mouth of the righteous talketh of wisdom, And his tongue speaketh justice. NIV 30 The mouth of the righteous man utters wisdom, and his tongue speaks what is just. ASV 31 The law of his God is in his heart; None of his steps shall slide. NIV 31 The law of his God is in his heart; his feet do not slip. ASV 32 The wicked watcheth the righteous, And seeketh to slay him. NIV 32 The wicked lie in wait for the righteous, seeking their very lives; ASV 33 Jehovah will not leave him in his hand, Nor condemn him when he is judged. NIV 33 but the LORD will not leave them in their power or let them be condemned when brought to trial. ASV 34 Wait for Jehovah, and keep his way, And he will exalt thee to inherit the land: When the wicked are cut off, thou shalt see it. NIV 34 Wait for the LORD and keep his way. He will exalt you to inherit the land; when the wicked are cut off, you will see it. ASV 35 I have seen the wicked in great power, And spreading himself like a green tree in its native soil. NIV 35 I have seen a wicked and ruthless man flourishing like a green tree in its native soil, ASV 36 But one passed by, and, lo, he was not: Yea, I sought him, but he could not be found. NIV 36 but he soon passed away and was no more; though I looked for him, he could not be found. ASV 37 Mark the perfect man, and behold the upright; For there is a [happy] end to the man of peace. NIV 37 Consider the blameless, observe the upright; there is a future for the man of peace. ASV 38 As for transgressors, they shall be destroyed together; The end of the wicked shall be cut off. NIV 38 But all sinners will be destroyed; the future of the wicked will be cut off. ASV 39 But the salvation of the righteous is of Jehovah; He is their stronghold in the time of trouble. NIV 39 The salvation of the righteous comes from the LORD; he is their stronghold in time of trouble. ASV 40 And Jehovah helpeth them, and rescueth them; He rescueth them from the wicked, and saveth them, Because they have taken refuge in him. NIV 40 The LORD helps them and delivers them; he delivers them from the wicked and saves them, because they take refuge in him.
